[Bug 64706] Re: Usplash shifted partially off-screen

2006-10-20 Thread John Benchina
A release candidate for Edgy Eft was released.. it'd be nice to get this
fixed fairly soon, so it's fixed for the final release. Professionalism
really needs to be maintained

[Bug 58915] Re: Python upgrade errors

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
I can confirm this bug as well. But I also seem to be getting it from the file
/var/cache/apt/archives/python-pisock_0.12.1-3_i386.deb

Going by what Micah said, I guess that if old_versions method is
corrected, both files will be fixed.

[Bug 58915] Re: Python upgrade errors

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
Around 3:50 PM, I did an apt-get update, and the changes were up.

The following packages will be upgraded:
  python python-apt python-central python-examples python-minimal python-pisock

The upgrade now continues for me and gets past these. (It errors on
another part, unrelated to this bug)

I can confirm this particular bug is FIXED.

[Bug 61539] Virtual Consoles still load at startup

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
Public bug reported:

I've edited my /etc/inittab and commented out most of my virtual
consoles like so:

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty1
#2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
#3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
#4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
#5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
#6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6

This worked in Dapper, but since i've updated to Edgy, I can still see
exactly 6 getty's in my KDE System Guard processes list.

These virtual consoles are still getting loaded somehow

[Bug 61539] Re: Virtual Consoles still load at startup

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
Thanks for the info.

I do have that /etc/default/console-setup file, and I have changed the 6
to a 2, and I restarted.

Still seems to load up all 6 of the consoles.

[Bug 42600] Re: Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
I have a Dell Inspiron 8000, and my mic does not work. If I set my mic
as the input, and turn it on in output as well, I can tap the mic and I
hear it.

However, Audacity (anyone have any other recommended programs i can test
as well?) picks up nothing at all.

I'm using Edgy, but it didn't work in Dapper either.

[Bug 61539] Re: Virtual Consoles still load at startup

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
Thanks Jayson. That definitely worked that time.

Last question.. what about commenting out the Stop line? Will that
theoretically speed up shutdown (even though it probably would not be
noticable)?

[Bug 61518] Re: Upgrade fails: apt-index-watcher

2006-09-20 Thread John Benchina
I managed to fix this. I had to completely remove adept (which removed
apt-index-watcher, etc. etc)

then I re-installed adept and it installed properly.

The only thing I can think of was that apt-index-watcher was already
running when it tried to start it.. I'm not sure if that would have an
affect, but by removing Adept, i saw that it stopped apt-index-watcher,
and then reinstalling Adept started it back up.

That's all that I can think of that went wrong with upgrading it.

Fixed.

Gauranteed to crash. Not sure about receiving files.

[Bug 64706] Re: Usplash shifted partially off-screen

2006-10-10 Thread John Benchina
I have a similiar / the same problem as well.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000, with a ~15" screen ( native resolution is
1600x1200, which is also what I have set in Kubuntu Edgy)

With the default Usplash, the KUBUNTU logo is correctly centered
horizontally, but vertically it is not. It is shifted to the bottom so
low that all I can see is "KUBUNTU" and I can't see the progress bar at
all.

If I change the vga= option to use a higher-resolution usplash, (I think
I tried the 1024x768 one), then it shifts differently. It is then jammed
on the right side of my screen, and maybe even downwards some. I can see
the entire logo, but it's in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

I have had this problem ever since I first installed Edgy. Except the
usplash image was the "Edgy Eft" development image, not the current
KUBUNTU one.

[Bug 77558] Re: Display powermanagement confuses seconds with minutes and distroys displaysettings

2007-01-10 Thread John Benchina
The same thing has been happening to me.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8000, running Kubuntu Edgy.

Everything was fine, then one day (all the problems i've ever
encountered seem to happen this way).. I ran an update/upgrade, and
after I restarted, I noticed my display would seemingly NEVER turn off.

I usually have my display turn off after 10 minutes, but now I notice it
turns off every 5 hours. I can change it back to 10, and it works right
up until I restart.. then it resets to 5 hours. I don't think it's
confusing minutes/seconds at all. I think kubuntu just resets it to 5
hours regardless of any setting.. upon boot.
