2009-06-07 Thread Jason Scurtu
This bug seems to be on onboard or mobility chips only! I didnt have this
before with a real Radeon card
Real Radeon cards and Mobilitly/OnBoard chips use the same Radeon driver but
the only differents between them is the used DRM...

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-05-28 Thread Jason Scurtu
It seems that upgrading the Kernel to 2.6.29 only helps with certain chips
newer than RV250.. it help'd with a Radeon 9600 pro that I used from a friend
wich is a RV300 I think.. , but freezes still remains with my Radeon 7000, it
wont even boot to the Desktop it freezes or go's black right after KDM..
My Radeon 7000 has a TV in TV out built in... The only way it wont Freez is if
I put Option "NoDRI" in my xorg.conf
I really tried almost everything with that Card, with no success! except NoDRI..
Is there a way to disable the TV tuner in xorg? thats probably the only option
I didnt try..

Christian Neumair that would be great :-) even though I just order'd me
new Hardware with a AMD 740G chip in it because I am not able to work
with my PC, I will still help out to find this VERY annoing bug with my
at the moment X unfriendly Hardware..:-)

What info do you need?

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-05-24 Thread Jason Scurtu
Dear Bram Willemsen,

please read the whole bug report, you will notice that you have a few
opportunities to solve this problem..

Either you downgrade your xsever to version 1.5.2 that way you can use fglrx or
radeon, packages are provided as a archived package in a link more up in this
Bugreport...
2nd you can also update your kernel to a 2.6.29 or .30 release using the Ubuntu
Vanilla kernel PPA (Ubuntu Mainline Kernel) and upgrade your radeon driver and
X with this PPA https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/
wich was reported also to be successful..

Also let us know if you are using either KDE or Gnome as your desktop of
choice? As this bug "so far" seems to be kubuntu related only..

Good news, at least for me...
Now with the latest Jaunty bugfix updates and using kernel 2.6.29.1 from the

Allthough using the 2.6.28.XX Kernel from Jaunty still fails..

[Bug 282054] [NEW] Cube effect is missing after update

2008-10-12 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

After doing the last update on Kubuntu Intrepid I relized that the
"backported" cube effect in Kwin was missing, and not listed in
Kwineffects!

It was working pretty good before I updated, so i cant see a reason why this
was taking out??
Pleas Include the Cube effect in Kwin again, as there are many that dont use
Compiz for the compositing, like me! :-) ..
If this was an accident and by the next update this will be fixed, then maybe
it is possible to inculde the wonderlamp effect to?

Dont let this be a showstoper

Thanks..

2008-09-13 Thread Jason Scurtu
@krutoileshii

I think that you tried to compile this driver before? and there are still
restovers/ settings that conflict with the new Driver...
As I said, I try'd it on a fresh install without any problems and can ensure
that the driver works well..

But anyway try this what i mentioned before (obove)!

#Stop your networkmanager with:

sudo /etc/init.d/networkmanager stop

sudo ifconfig ra0 down ## Or wlan0 instead of ra0 if ndiswrapper was used
sudo modprobe -r rt2860sta ## or ndiswrapper instead of rt2860sta

#Remove old config file as User, not root:

rm -fr ~/.gconf/system/networking/wireless/networks/*

Restart, and hopefuly you should be able to log in a network..

If not, then please write a new bug report for the Networkmanager, or
even look if someone has the same problem..

@Pac Shady

the driver wont work out of the box with Intrepid, you must install the
OS to your disc and use the driver Stephane loaded up on his PPA
repository..

https://launchpad.net/~stgraber/+archive

@krutoileshii

did you do a fresh install? I mean like, everything new again.. and then only
use the driver from Stephane?
On your screenshots i can tell that you tried every module you can find on the
net.., thats why i am talking about conflicts..
Do a NEW Install, and then try the DKMS Driver from Stephane' PPA
"rt2860-source_1.7.0.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1_all.deb" (Only)

[Bug 262524] [NEW] Missing Wlan- Modul in Linux-Kernel

2008-08-29 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.26

The Ralink RT2860 Wireless lan is a widely used wlan card, even more now
since it is built in many netbooks, incuding mine :-) , but its been
missing in the linux-kernel or resticted-modules..

Ralink provides a OpenSource driver, since version 1.7.0.0 it even works
fine with the Networkmanager used in ubuntu and all other flavors. I
have been testing it in Intrepid for a while now.. Support for the
Networkmanager just has to be turned on before Compiling..

It would be great, since Intrepid is a release focused on more bleeding
edge and not a LTS.. to see this Modul working out of the box in
Intrepid...

Original Driver from Ralink
http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html

I incuded a fixed source that worked fine for me, Networkmanager is
activated..

Here are the changes and difference between the original and the one I
uploaded to launchpad:

* This driver will compile on 2.6.26.
* The RT2860STA.dat file wont copy to /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA.
* The wierd tftboot file in the root directory wont be placed.
* Support for Network Manager is activated.
* This driver wont trash the logs that bad anymore.

[Bug 348332] [NEW] [RV250][JAUNTY] X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-03-25 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I am not able to use Jaunty with my Radeon 9000 RV250 Graphicscard..
When leaving the default settings after install it takes only a few minutes or
somtimes seconds then X freezes or goes Black.. Default means EXA and Composite
enabled.. Even if I just disable composite (KWin), this Bug still apears..

Allthough if I manual swich the accelleration to use XAA by configuring
xorg.conf and disable composite then I am able to use my Computer with
out having any Freezes or Blackouts, if I use XAA and have composite
(KWin) on it will freez again... But using KDE4 without composite is
just no fun ;-)

So I dont know where this Bug acually belongs, so I guess in the Radeon
driver..
With my other Computer, one with nvidia GPU and another one with intel GPU have
no issues..

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250][JAUNTY] X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-04-10 Thread Jason Scurtu
I was curios and look'ed at other Distributions that are also still in
development, as they are simular to Ubuntu (Xorg,Kernel) so I ran thier
LiveCD's.
And I found that they all had the same problem, so this is not a Ubuntu issue
only!! ...

I Tested:

Fedora 11
Mandriva 2009.1 RC2

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250][JAUNTY] X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-04-04 Thread Jason Scurtu
This bug is really killing me... I am trying out so many things and it just
aint getting better... (
I tried out new updatet drm, mesa, dri from
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa + updated radeon drivers from
tormodvolden.. this bug still remains..
I tied Kernel 2.6.29

I did few new installs, alternate-daily, netinstall ... this bug still
remains.. I did whole lot of things.. this bug still remains.. I am
about this --><-- close to get an heartattack...

Since the last updates (fresh-install) it got even worse, i can only use
Kubuntu Jaunty with the "NoDRI" option...
I had a few segfaults in my kernlog with akonadi, ksmserver and python that
happend with libQtCore.so.4.5.0 error 4 or somthing like that...

Is there any chance that this can get fixed before release? or should I
just throw my Hardware out of the window? :-)

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-01 Thread Jason Scurtu
Here is a patched source that will compile under Ubuntu with kernel 2.6.26 +up
Tested with ubuntu intrepid.. and works with networkmanager!!

Changes between original from Ralink and this Source;

* Driver will compile with kernel 2.6.26 and up
* File RT2860STA.dat will not be put in /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA
* Wierd tftboot file wont be placed in / "root directory"
* Networkmanager is enabled
* Driver wont trash logs that much anymore

Install Build-Essentials
in the Directory just "sudo make && make install " to compile

[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver

2008-09-01 Thread Jason Scurtu
Forgot to inculde this!
If you tried to compile the Ralink driver before or used ndiswrapper, you
should do some steps before compiling the patched version.

Stop networkmanager:

sudo /etc/init.d/networkmanager stop

sudo ifconfig ra0 down ## Or wlan0 instead of ra0 if ndiswrapper
was used
sudo modprobe -r rt2860sta ## or ndiswrapper instead of rt2860sta

Remove old config file as User, not root:

rm -fr ~/.gconf/system/networking/wireless/networks/*

Restart, and you should be able to log in a new network..

@ Stéphane does your driver only support WPA, or also WEP?
Will this driver be able to reach the Intrepid release and be official?

2008-09-10 Thread Jason Scurtu
Okay I tested the "rt2860-source_1.7.0.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1_all.deb" DKMS Driver
from Stéphane's PPA
It works good, I have tested it with WEP and WPA, and it works, and shows all
the Networks :-)

The only issue I have is the KNetworkManager, there seems to be a bug,
it shows the Networks but just dont react at all, I tried the Gnome-
Networkmanager and it works fine.. (but thats a different thing,
Stéphane's driver works )

[Bug 410016] [NEW] [KARMIC][Kernel-Modesetting-RADEON] NO Desktop effects

2009-08-06 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

Just right now I tried out the Karmic Alpha3 LiveCD because I was courios to
checkout Kernel Modesetting for Radeon based cards..
The good thing is, it works :-)
The bad thing is, desktop-effects dont :-(

Looking at my logs I found that KMS was enabled correct, I added to boot
radeon.modeset=1

- 2009-08-06 18:34:07 ubuntu kernel [ 43.548950] [drm] radeon
kernel modesetting enabled.

looking in my xorg.log I found these three lines after eachother, that
would lead to why desktop-effects dont work..

- Error RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIGetVersion failed because of a version
mismatch.
- Information [dri] radeon.o kernel module version is 2.0.0 but
version 1.17.0 or newer is needed.
- Information [dri] Disabling DRI.

But look at the 2nd line hmm ??? 2.0.0 is newer than 1.17.0
and because of this it disables dri..

2007-04-11 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

after installing Ubuntu 7.04 on my Laptop I wanted to install the closed-source
nvidia driver with the restricted driver manager..
I know on early versions of Ubuntu 7.04 this worked good but now it dont..

Here is what happens: My graphic card is not shown in the restricted driver
manager (it did before) so I cant Install it over it..
I must install manualy and even that is having problems, dont show my driver in
the manager after manual Install either.. My graphic card is listed correct in
xorg.conf and I cant explain..
When I try to install desktop-effect my screen goes blank (white), it dont tell
me I need the driver.. nothing is working correct for me..

Maybe one thing, I did a bios update wich was needed to install Vista
and there was a fix in that for the graphiccard?? Dont know if that
could of been the reason..

[Bug 198006] [NEW] Dell Inpriron and IPW3945

2008-03-03 Thread Jason Scurtu
Public bug reported:

Today i wanted to see and test the upcoming release "8.04 - Hardy" so I
installed it on my Dell Inspiron 6400n but i am not really having fun with it..
Everything is so slow, nothing is working proper ( I have a DualCore and 2 GB
Ram ), but the most distracting thing is my WLAN..
First on ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 the Hardware Manager always came up telling me
what restricted drivers i am using, but not on on 8.04.
When I open the Restricted Manager my self it still dont show me any Restricted
Driver's although my IPW3945's firmware is not Free so it should come up (it
did on 7.10).
On my Dell Inspiron 6400n there is a wifi light that shows me wireless
activity, it wont work under Hardy.

My Kernel : 2.6.24-11-generic #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 22:08:31 UTC 2008 i686

2007-04-09 Thread Jason Scurtu
Okay now after reinstalling Ubuntu 7.04 several times I thought maybe I
should try a different Kernel, so I installed Ubuntu again and during
the Install I picked out the linux-image 686-smp instead of linux-image
generic after that it worked the problem seems to be gone.. I can
download again without any hangups...

I think there is a bug in the Kernel, that also effects the ristricted-
modules..

If there is anything els let me know...

[Bug 519577] Re: package oss4-dkms 4.2-build2002-2 failed to install/upgrade: oss4 kernel module failed to build

2010-02-21 Thread Jason Scurtu
It dont Build because some paths are not Ubuntu compatible, they are more
Debian orientated..
I dont know how to use quilt for making patches, but I managed to get OSS4
working by editing two files..
In the /debian/dkms I edited the dkms.conf.template file on line 100 to this:

MAKE[0]="cp /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/include/linux/limits.h
${dkms_tree}/${PACKAGE_NAME}/${PACKAGE_VERSION}/build/core && \

Also in /debian/m-a/ I edited the rules file on line 51 to this:

cp /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/include/linux/limits.h $(PWD)/core

after that it compiles and works, but I think we should also change the
default paths that debian uses, like /var to the OSS4 defaults like
/usr/lib/oss4 otherwise flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound wont work out of
the box..

I uploaded the changed files, please if someone would make the propper
pachtes ...

[Bug 633490] Re: [MAVERICK/ KWIN]:Impossible to turn on composition

2010-10-05 Thread Jason Scurtu
I think i found out why we are not getting the effects! ( well kind
of, I am close!! :-) )

I did a "kwin --replace" in the terminal and got this output:

QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such
file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/ubuntu/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

So I thought hmmm. Looking at the installed
applications there was ibus-qt4 installed but.. I dunno???..
I looked to see if ibus-daemon is runnung with: ibus-daemon -d
But then the output was telling me that ibus-daemon is not installed and that I
could install it with "sudo apt-get install ibus"

So, yeah... I did!!!

sudo apt-get install ibus

## This installs some GTK non KDE related stuff! Here is the list:
gconf2 gconf2-common ibus indicator-application libappindicator1 libcroco3
libdbusmenu-gtk1 libgconf2-4 libglade2-0 libibus2 libidl0 libindicator1
libjson-glib-1.0-0 libnotify1 liborbit2 librsvg2-2 librsvg2-common
python-appindicator python-glade2 python-gtk2 python-ibus python-notify

After the Install I loaded the ibus-daemon with "ibus-daemon -d" went to
systemsettings and tada!! I was able to turn on effects!!!

Now is this a Kwin issue or more a ibus-qt4 issue?? or even a packaging
issue??

Cheers!

QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such
file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/ubuntu/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

So I thought hmmm. Looking at the installed
applications there was ibus-qt4 installed but.. I dunno???..
I looked to see if ibus-daemon is runnung with: ibus-daemon -d
But then the output was telling me that ibus-daemon is not installed and that I
could install it with "sudo apt-get install ibus"

So, yeah... I did!!!

sudo apt-get install ibus

## This installs some GTK non KDE related stuff! Here is the list:
gconf2 gconf2-common ibus indicator-application libappindicator1 libcroco3
libdbusmenu-gtk1 libgconf2-4 libglade2-0 libibus2 libidl0 libindicator1
libjson-glib-1.0-0 libnotify1 liborbit2 librsvg2-2 librsvg2-common
python-appindicator python-glade2 python-gtk2 python-ibus python-notify

After the Install I loaded the ibus-daemon with "ibus-daemon -d" went to
systemsettings and tada!! I was able to turn on effects!!!

Now is this a Kwin issue or more a ibus-qt4 issue?? or even a packaging
issue??

Cheers!

Okay... Johnathan Riddel told me that ibus has nothing to do with this...
So I tried to do as mentioned before a second time!! Guess what, it did not
work again. :-(

Thats wierd that it worked at first ..

Not a Bug it is a Driver dilemma!
http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2010/09/driver-dilemma-in-kde-workspaces-4-5/

To by pass this in Kubuntu, edit your kwinrc file
change CheckOpenGLIsSafe and disable Blur effects in systemsettings..
