[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite
It seems that upgrading the Kernel to 2.6.29 only helps with certain chips newer than RV250.. it help'd with a Radeon 9600 pro that I used from a friend wich is a RV300 I think.. , but freezes still remains with my Radeon 7000, it wont even boot to the Desktop it freezes or go's black right after KDM.. My Radeon 7000 has a TV in TV out built in... The only way it wont Freez is if I put Option "NoDRI" in my xorg.conf I really tried almost everything with that Card, with no success! except NoDRI.. Is there a way to disable the TV tuner in xorg? thats probably the only option I didnt try.. Christian Neumair that would be great :-) even though I just order'd me new Hardware with a AMD 740G chip in it because I am not able to work with my PC, I will still help out to find this VERY annoing bug with my at the moment X unfriendly Hardware..:-) What info do you need? -- [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Dear Bram Willemsen, please read the whole bug report, you will notice that you have a few opportunities to solve this problem.. Either you downgrade your xsever to version 1.5.2 that way you can use fglrx or radeon, packages are provided as a archived package in a link more up in this Bugreport... 2nd you can also update your kernel to a 2.6.29 or .30 release using the Ubuntu Vanilla kernel PPA (Ubuntu Mainline Kernel) and upgrade your radeon driver and X with this PPA https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ wich was reported also to be successful.. @Pac Shady the driver wont work out of the box with Intrepid, you must install the OS to your disc and use the driver Stephane loaded up on his PPA repository.. https://launchpad.net/~stgraber/+archive @krutoileshii did you do a fresh install? I mean like, everything new again.. and then only use the driver from Stephane? [Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver
Here is a patched source that will compile under Ubuntu with kernel 2.6.26 +up Tested with ubuntu intrepid.. and works with networkmanager!! Changes between original from Ralink and this Source; * Driver will compile with kernel 2.6.26 and up * File RT2860STA.dat will not be put in /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA * Wierd tftboot file wont be placed in / "root directory" * Networkmanager is enabled * Driver wont trash logs that much anymore Install Build-Essentials in the Directory just "sudo make && make install " to compile ** Attachment added: "Patched source" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17216054/2008_0708_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.7.0.0-adapted.tgz -- Please include RaLink RT2860 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210725 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver
Forgot to inculde this! If you tried to compile the Ralink driver before or used ndiswrapper, you should do some steps before compiling the patched version. Stop networkmanager: sudo /etc/init.d/networkmanager stop sudo ifconfig ra0 down ## Or wlan0 instead of ra0 if ndiswrapper was used sudo modprobe -r rt2860sta ## or ndiswrapper instead of rt2860sta Remove old config file as User, not root: rm -fr ~/.gconf/system/networking/wireless/networks/* Restart, and you should be able to log in a new network.. -- Please include RaLink RT2860 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210725 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks guys for this, I was just about >||< that close to replace my Ralink against a Intel IPW.. guess i'll wait and see where this is all going.. The ralink drivers seem to be realy tricky and not that well programmed.. @ Stéphane does your driver only support WPA, or also WEP? [Bug 210725] Re: Please include RaLink RT2860 driver
Okay I tested the "rt2860-source_1.7.0.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1_all.deb" DKMS Driver from Stéphane's PPA It works good, I have tested it with WEP and WPA, and it works, and shows all the Networks :-) The only issue I have is the KNetworkManager, there seems to be a bug, it shows the Networks but just dont react at all, I tried the Gnome- Networkmanager and it works fine.. [Bug 519577] Re: package oss4-dkms 4.2-build2002-2 failed to install/upgrade: oss4 kernel module failed to build
It dont Build because some paths are not Ubuntu compatible, they are more Debian orientated.. I dont know how to use quilt for making patches, but I managed to get OSS4 working by editing two files.. In the /debian/dkms I edited the dkms.conf.template file on line 100 to this: MAKE[0]="cp /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/include/linux/limits.h ${dkms_tree}/${PACKAGE_NAME}/${PACKAGE_VERSION}/build/core && \ Also in /debian/m-a/ I edited the rules file on line 51 to this: cp /usr/src/linux-headers-`uname -r`/include/linux/limits.h $(PWD)/core after that it compiles and works, but I think we should also change the default paths that debian uses, like /var to the OSS4 defaults like /usr/lib/oss4 otherwise flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound wont work out of the box.. I uploaded the changed files, please if someone would make the propper pachtes ... ** Attachment added: "FIXED_Files.tar.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/39468489/FIXED_Files.tar.gz -- package oss4-dkms 4.2-build2002-2 failed to install/upgrade: oss4 kernel module failed to build https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/519577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Why not take out PPD's that are a few years old perhabs 5 years?! I think i found out why we are not getting the effects! ( well kind of, I am close!! :-) ) I did a "kwin --replace" in the terminal and got this output: QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/ubuntu/.config/ibus/bus Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address. IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon So I thought hmmm. Looking at the installed applications there was ibus-qt4 installed but.. I dunno???.. I looked to see if ibus-daemon is runnung with: ibus-daemon -d But then the output was telling me that ibus-daemon is not installed and that I could install it with "sudo apt-get install ibus" So, yeah... I did!!! sudo apt-get install ibus ## This installs some GTK non KDE related stuff!
