[Bug 252028] [NEW] dialog always on top too greedy

2008-07-25 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apturl

This bug was introduced with a patch for Bug 234992. Apturl dialogs now
stay on top of other windows, but they also try to stay on top of
processes spawned from it (Synaptic). This results in a disabled dialog
on top of a progress window in the background. Fix pending.

[Bug 382866] Re: No menu item installed in Jaunty

2009-06-21 Thread Jacob Peddicord
This is probably because, as you stated, you edited the menu to add the
item yourself. In a few cases, even deleting the custom item can prevent
the packaged entry from installing. You can check your menu
customizations in ~/.local/share/applications. Look for gscan2pdf in
there, try deleting it and the default entry should become available.

think there is a problem. Please feel free to report any other bugs you

[Bug 383000] Re: Empathy does not show new messages for Google Talk

2009-06-03 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Just hit this in Karmic with 2.27.2.

Sent a message to someone on Empathy, but could not read their replies.
Suspiciously checked Gmail chat logs, and the messages were definitely
there. Later saw that they had sent me a message about an hour earlier,
but Empathy showed no indication of anything happening.

It's quite a show stopper; I almost think it should have a higher
importance since its main functionality does not work.

[Bug 375235] Re: Sync twitux 0.69-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-05-28 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Debian has a build-dep on scrollkeeper instead of rarian-compat. rarian-
compat in Ubuntu provides scrollkeeper as a virtual package, so they are
effectively the same at build time.

I checked the versioning on gnome-doc-utils and intltool: both specify
minimum versions lower than those in the archives for any Ubuntu
release, so even on an older system this should be okay.

So yes, I believe these changes can be safely dropped. :)

[Bug 375235] Re: Sync twitux 0.69-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-06-01 Thread Jacob Peddicord
I was able to build this package not too long ago, however obviously it
does not at the moment, so I'm going to close this bug. It is probably
not difficult to merge the changes, but that would only divert the
package from Debian again. My main reasons for a sync would be to keep
up with Debian changes without hassle in MoM or other merges, and for a
little bit of packaging practice. I think that it may still be a
transient problem, in which case I may reopen it later. Thanks nhandler
for your assistance on this!

[Bug 375235] [NEW] Sync twitux 0.69-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-05-11 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: twitux

Please sync twitux 0.69-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
All Ubuntu changes were for new upstream releases that had not quite made
their way to Debian.
 * 0.62-0ubuntu1 - New upstream version
 * 0.68-0ubuntu1:
   - Patch rules were dropped as well in Debian
   - Extra build-deps were added in Debian
 * 0.69-0ubuntu1:
   - --enable-aspell switched out for --enable-spell in Debian
   - build-dep on libenchant-dev added in Debian
   - libaspell dropped in Debian
All of these changes can be safely replaced by 0.69-3 in unstable.

Changelog since current karmic version 0.69-0ubuntu1:

twitux (0.69-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Remove /var/lib/scrollkeeper dir (Closes: #525574).

-- Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz Sat, 25 Apr 2009
12:37:12 -0700

twitux (0.69-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * 0.69 can be uploaded to unstable, now that all our dependencies are there.
  * Bump standards version to 3.8.1. No changes.

-- Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz Thu, 02 Apr 2009
13:20:55 -0700

twitux (0.69-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New Upstream Release.
- Fixes unescaped <, > and & (Closes: #512533).
  * We carry no more patches to upstream, so remove quilt build dependency.

Scratch that last debdiff; libeel2 seems to have been removed from
Karmic. However, I was able to build it without a dependency on libeel2.
In fact, I can't find anything in the original README that states that

[Bug 332767] Re: Message popups do not pay attention to notification daemon capabilities

2009-05-17 Thread Jacob Peddicord
sikon:

Yes, it would, however popup positioning/expiration is not a feature
advertised or recognized by any notification daemon.

On https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#Mail%20Notification:

"It has a setting for whether “message popups” should be “Attached to
the status icon” or “In the popup stack”. Notify OSD treats these
identically, so when Notify OSD is being used, these settings should not
be visible. (Currently, the only way to detect whether positioning is
available is to use GetServerInformation to specifically include
“notification-daemon” or exclude “Notify OSD”.)"

that the icons are in the upstream orig.tar.gz now. That leaves no
remaining changes, so I'm filing this for a sync in a new bug in a

[Bug 274203] Re: Joystick detected as mouse, crashes X

2008-10-18 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Jeremy:

I can confirm that new behavior. If my analog stick is on, the mouse
moves with an absolute position regarding to the analog's position. If
it is off (internal controller setting), then it moves according to the
D-Pad in nine different positions on the screen. Is this still related
to this bug, or should a new bug be opened?

[Bug 251809] Re: scrollbar has some problem with multiple tabs

2008-09-25 Thread Jacob Peddicord
I'd like to add that you don't even have to do any tricks with showing
hidden files, simply tab swapping will kill the scrollbar. Resizing the
window brings it back for the active tab, but loses the scrollbar(s) for
the other tabs.

[Bug 269405] Re: glxinfo crash on Intrepid Ibex: extension "GLX" missing

2008-09-13 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Possible workaround:

Run `sudo dexconf` to reset your xorg.conf. Restart X and try again.

If that doesn't work, open Synaptic and remove all of the nvidia drivers
(sans nvidia-kernel-common) and run `sudo dexconf` again. It appears
that the NVIDIA drivers and config applet somehow got installed on
systems that do not even have an NVIDIA graphics chipset, and the system
attempts to boot with an that driver and fails. `sudo dexconf` should
reset the settings back to the default for your system.

[Bug 256479] [NEW] severe texture corruption on some 3D games with compositing enabled

2008-08-09 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa

Intrepid, latest mesa (7.1~rc3-1ubuntu2) on an Intel i945:

Many games, such as Neverball/putt and Emilia Pinball, run seemingly
fine on a base Intrepid install without any desktop effects enabled.
However, when Compiz or any other OpenGL application is launched overtop
of these applications, they exhibit strange texture corruption. Some
textures cannot be identified, while others look like they were swapped
around.

Briefly, for about 1/2 second, textures look fine on first load.

Attached are some screenshots showing the problem. Neither game outputs
any new errors to the terminal when corruption occurs, with the
exception of "Failed to initialize TTM buffer manager. Falling back to
classic." which also appears without compositing enabled.

xorg.conf attached, though it's not very useful; it's the stock file from

Xorg log pending.

Also tried downgrading Mesa back to the Hardy versions, which was an

downgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel, but that would have pulled back
all of X with it, defeating the purpose of the test.

Public bug reported:

The Pyglet 1.1beta2 test suite, which normally completes fine on 8.04,
segfaults in Intrepid on the third test (window.CONTEXT_SHARE).

Running log with backtrace attached.

To reproduce:
1. Download and extract the Pyglet source distribution:

2. cd to tests
3. With mesa and Python debug symbols installed, run:

[Bug 311682] Re: Hide/show windows should raise windows instead.

2008-12-30 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Thank you for the bug report. I am able to confirm this behavior.
However, notification area icons are an application-specific issue, and
so individual bug reports should be filed about each application that
exhibits the problem so the bugs can be properly forwarded to their
upstream authors. I'm going to go ahead and mark this one against xchat.
Thanks!

[Bug 309803] Re: gwhois depends on inetd

2009-01-26 Thread Jacob Peddicord
I was originally going to have debconf set a question default depending
on whether or not an inetd was installed, but ran across a roadblock:
the package can't tell if an inetd will be installed if it is being
installed the same time as gwhois, since the config is ran before
unpacking.

So, the debconf question remains as it was and still defaults to true,
but with an added note that it needs an inetd to run as a server. The
prerm and postinst scripts then check for the existence of
/usr/sbin/inetd and act accordingly on the debconf value.

Is this a feasible solution?

[Bug 309803] Re: gwhois depends on inetd

2009-01-27 Thread Jacob Peddicord
James:

Thanks for the response. I'll file a Debian bug when I return from
classes today to see what the maintainer thinks. However, in the
meantime, would it be suitable to go with the most recent solution but
without the template/translation changes, and then merge/sync the Debian
version when it is updated? I think the debconf dialog (and the
Recommends field) should appropriately hint that an inetd server needs
to be installed, even though the extra string would be helpful.

Thanks for your help,
Jacob

[Bug 312855] Re: the page does not load

2009-01-09 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Thank you for the bug report, but we will need some information to
continue. Namely, what page does not load for you?

Also, please install all pending updates (System > Administration >
Update Manager) for your system and try to load the page again, as your
version of Firefox is relatively old.

** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 312860] Re: mcafee siteadvisor is installed, but not visible or working

2009-01-09 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please
report this bug to the provider of the software package, Mcafee. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

[Bug 256479] Re: severe texture corruption on some 3D games with compositing enabled

2008-12-22 Thread Jacob Peddicord
cyprian43:

Interesting. In any case, the bug filed here has already been resolved.
The problem you are most likely experiencing is probably due to bug
303011. You may want to subscribe to that bug for updates.

[Bug 317894] Re: grandr not in menu

2009-01-19 Thread Jacob Peddicord
James,

I wasn't aware of a NotShowIn line for desktop entries. Changed, thanks.

With regards to the build system, I switched it to CDBS because:
1) it looked like a stock debhelper rules file
2) the source package would fail to build after the first time
Though in retrospect, that probably wasn't the best idea, and this patch leaves
debhelper for building. Turns out the build problem I was experiencing was the
result of trying to fix a lintian warning:
debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error. If it's okay, I'm just going to let that
warning be, because "fixing" it only brings about more problems. :)

I was planning on filing this in the Debian bug tracker after this was
resolved in case changes needed to be made. Should I go ahead and file
it now?

Thanks!
Jacob

[Bug 317894] Re: grandr not in menu

2009-01-19 Thread Jacob Peddicord
James,

Odd, I tried using [ -f Makefile ] earlier and it didn't work, but it
seems to be working fine now. Changed.

I'm not entirely sure why the source Makefiles are changing in the
diffs, but it could be because of an automake version difference (see
the comments at the top of the diff about automake). This is actually
present in the in the current version in the archives as well.

Reset Standards-Version and the Build-Depends lines.

I changed the desktop comment because it sounded repetitive to have a
name and comment with "screens" used twice, but since it really sounds
fine as it was I've changed it back to reduce noise. :)

The source package does not include an icon at all, and the one it was
previously referencing in the desktop file did not exist. I chose
display because it was the most obvious choice and looks to be already
present in most icon themes.

I'll file those Debian bugs in a little bit.
Let me know if anything else needs changed. I think I'm learning more about
packaging in this report than I have been reading wiki pages. :P

Thanks again,
Jacob

[Bug 303011] Re: [i945] 2.5.1 driver poor performance

2008-12-18 Thread Jacob Peddicord
I can confirm that Compiz (along with everything else 3D) still runs
very slowly, with glxgears running at around 200FPS (or about 300FPS
with card0 permissions set properly). This is after applying the latest
updates.

Attached my X log, though I was unable to find anything out of the
ordinary in it.

[Bug 256479] Re: severe texture corruption on some 3D games with compositing enabled

2008-12-19 Thread Jacob Peddicord
Bryce:

99% sure this is already fixed in Jaunty with the 2:2.5.1 driver set. No
texturing issues at all here. Everything looks and runs fine, aside from
the current xserver slowness (but that's a different bug).

As long as someone else can also confirm this works, this bug is defunct
except for Intrepid, where the issue remains. I doubt it's worth
backporting the fix though as most people disable compositing for games
anyway.
