[Bug 290162] [NEW] acpi probes thinkpad batteries only on boot
Public bug reported: To have secondary ultrabay battery visible through acpi on thinkpad models you need to boot linux with second battery plugged in. This issue is well known. According to thinkwiki: The second battery is correctly detected by the ACPI subsystem (if activated). However, the Linux ACPI subsystem only scans for batteries on boot. This means that the second battery must be present at boot time, or you will not be able to get any info for it via /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1. I don't know whether it is possible to support battery hot plug-in with ACPI or not, but it seems crucial to end user experience. ** Affects: acpi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- acpi probes thinkpad batteries only on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 280920] Re: gnome-power-manager doesn't support thinkpad UltraBay batteries
I tried to pinpoint the problem. Here are my findings: When booting laptop with UltraBay battery inserted gnome-power-manager recognizes 2 batteries properly. It even supports hot-swapping. You can remove the UltraBay battery and plug-in dvd and it is fully recognized. After removing dvd from UltraBay and inserting UltraBay battery once more it is properly recognized by gnome-power-manager. When booting laptop with with inserted UltraBay dvd and UltraBay battery removed gnome-power-manager does not recognize UltraBay battery when it is inserted later. Restarting gnome-power-manager doesn't solve a problem. The UltraBay battery is clearly visible through tp_smapi: cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/model always gives proper response when UltraBay battery is plugged-in I think it might be acpi problem since it recognizes batteries during boot: [ 16.860864] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present) [ 16.900601] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery present) or only [ 18.071537] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present) -- gnome-power-manager doesn't support thinkpad UltraBay batteries https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 212092] Re: firefox crashed randomly with segmentation fault
Apparently there is a flash related bug, but in my case initial symptoms were exactly the same. Only FF crashed randomly. Opera was rock solid, as was the rest of software was using on daily basis. I diagnosed the problem only because one day things got really bad, and I started to have segmentation faults randomly in all programs. In my case one of 1GB memory modules was broken. All worked stable as far as only some part of RAM was used. But when memory usage reached certain level I received seg faults. Unfortunately only FF consumed enough RAM to encounter this issue. I checked again plugging only the fault module and system became totally unstable. Surely there is a bug in flashplugin-nonfree but it causes FF to crash on flash content. You could try replacing nonfree with gnash. Try to debug the crash to see what is the main cause of crashes. -- firefox crashed randomly with segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 89160] Re: cannot get an HTTP response from some sites
The problem is still present in Gusty. There is a simple workaround posted here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=383390) and this bug is also reported in Debian (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=401435). For user who are aware of this problem solution is very simple, but for new ones I may be a real pain in the neck, especially when Ubuntu hangs during installation while trying to download packages. My proposal is to turn off tcp_window_scaling feature or add tcp_wmem and tcp_rmem workaround during installation process. It could be also possible to automatically turn this feature on when there is a problem with Internet connection during installation process. We could also create some kind of tip message, which will appear when connection is impossible. I really think we should think something out because this problem has a very negative influence from the outset on potential new Ubuntu users. The worst part of it is that, if you can't connect to the Internet you are unable to find a solution. -- cannot get an HTTP response from some sites https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/89160 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109320] Re: evms blocks access to disk devices
That's a serious bug. After installing Evms my lvm2 volumes could not be accessed anymore. So I tried to rescue them with Rescue broken system option from Gusty alternate cd. These are steps, which were necessary tu take in order to rescue system: I got separate /boot and in lvm / , /home , /media , /var 1) From rescue broken system go chroot to / (in my case it was in lvm as mentioned above) 2) apt-get purge evms evms-cli 3) apt-get autoremove - to get rid of libevms-2.5 4) lvm 5) in lvm type -> vgcfgrestore 6) exit from lvm -> exit 7) depmod -a 8) update-initramfs -u 9) restart system 10) if your partitions don't mount edit /etc/fstab and change uuid to appropriate devices (in my case uuids were broken don't know why) -- evms blocks access to disk devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109320 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
