[Bug 290162] [NEW] acpi probes thinkpad batteries only on boot

2008-10-27 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

To have secondary ultrabay battery visible through acpi on thinkpad
models you need to boot linux with second battery plugged in.

This issue is well known. According to thinkwiki:

The second battery is correctly detected by the ACPI subsystem (if
activated). However, the Linux ACPI subsystem only scans for batteries
on boot. This means that the second battery must be present at boot
time, or you will not be able to get any info for it via
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1.

I don't know whether it is possible to support battery hot plug-in with
ACPI or not, but it seems crucial to end user experience.

[Bug 275834] [NEW] gnome power manager tooltip and menu values doesn't match

2008-09-29 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm testing Intrepid with gnome-power-manager 2.24.0. When I move cursor
on Battery icon in gnome panel a tooltip shows 89,6% battery capacity,
but when I left click on battery a menu pops up and shows in polish
"Akumulator laptopa 84%".

The value shown on tooltip changes with battery dis-/charging. The
battery shown in menu also changes but values never match.

One thing to be noticed. I use Thinkpad T61p and often change maximum
charge treshold with

echo x > /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT0/stop_charge_thresh x

[Bug 280920] Re: gnome-power-manager doesn't support thinkpad UltraBay batteries

2008-10-11 Thread Jojo
I tried to pinpoint the problem. Here are my findings:

When booting laptop with UltraBay battery inserted gnome-power-manager
recognizes 2 batteries properly. It even supports hot-swapping. You can
remove the UltraBay battery and plug-in dvd and it is fully recognized.
After removing dvd from UltraBay and inserting UltraBay battery once
more it is properly recognized by gnome-power-manager.

When booting laptop with with inserted UltraBay dvd and UltraBay battery
removed gnome-power-manager does not recognize UltraBay battery when it
is inserted later. Restarting gnome-power-manager doesn't solve a
problem.

The UltraBay battery is clearly visible through tp_smapi:

cat /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/model

always gives proper response when UltraBay battery is plugged-in

I think it might be acpi problem since it recognizes batteries during
boot:

[ 16.860864] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present)
[ 16.900601] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT1] (battery present)

or only

[ 18.071537] ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present)

[Bug 212092] Re: firefox crashed randomly with segmentation fault

2008-05-27 Thread Jojo
Apparently there is a flash related bug, but in my case initial symptoms
were exactly the same. Only FF crashed randomly. Opera was rock solid,
as was the rest of software was using on daily basis. I diagnosed the
problem only because one day things got really bad, and I started to
have segmentation faults randomly in all programs. In my case one of 1GB
memory modules was broken. All worked stable as far as only some part of
RAM was used. But when memory usage reached certain level I received seg
faults. Unfortunately only FF consumed enough RAM to encounter this
issue. I checked again plugging only the fault module and system became
totally unstable.

Surely there is a bug in flashplugin-nonfree but it causes FF to crash
on flash content. You could try replacing nonfree with gnash.

Try to debug the crash to see what is the main cause of crashes.

[Bug 356533] [NEW] pbzip2 new upstream version 1.0.5

2009-04-06 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pbzip2

Changes since 1.0.3. Support to use pbzip2 with tar is what is often
looked for.

v.1.0.5
* Now properly complains about trying to read or write compressed data to
terminal, and exits
* Further fixed CPU detection crash
* Updated Makefile to force deletion when cleaning

v1.0.4
(Dec. 21, 2008)

* Added support to use pbzip2 with tar (--use-compress-prog=pbzip2).
* Added support for all remaining bzip2 command line options so pbzip2 can
be used as a drop-in replacement for bzip2.
* Fixed bug that would cause pbzip2 to crash if detection of the number of
processors failed.

there, but it was fixed about two weeks ago. Whether the fix came from Mint
or not, I don't know, but I assumed at the time that this was done upstream
by Ubuntu. You might want to write to the developers there and ask:

To reproduce: Go to kcontrol--> devices--> storage media
It dosen't matter what exactly the changes are. It can be setting the
auto-actions for the different mime-types (like audiocd, camera, etc...) or
setting the little cross for "enable medium application autostart after
remount".

[Bug 113884] Thermal trip points too low

2007-05-10 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

After finishing a fresh install of Ubuntu Feisty on my laptop I've
noticed that my fan is working almost constantly. I tried solve that
problem and found that my thermal trip point are to strict.

 cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ1/trip_points
critical (S5): 102 C
passive: 100 C: tc1=1 tc2=2 tsp=100 devices=0xee579338
active[0]: 80 C: devices=0xee586a2c
active[1]: 65 C: devices=0xee5869c8
active[2]: 55 C: devices=0xee586978
active[3]: 40 C: devices=0xee586928

It would be nice to be able to set active[3] to 45 C. It would keep my
fan off and cpu will still be cool.

[Bug 89160] Re: cannot get an HTTP response from some sites

2007-10-08 Thread Jojo
The problem is still present in Gusty. There is a simple workaround
posted here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=383390) and this
bug is also reported in Debian (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=401435). For user who are aware of this problem
solution is very simple, but for new ones I may be a real pain in the
neck, especially when Ubuntu hangs during installation while trying to
download packages.

My proposal is to turn off tcp_window_scaling feature or add tcp_wmem
and tcp_rmem workaround during installation process. It could be also
possible to automatically turn this feature on when there is a problem
with Internet connection during installation process. We could also
create some kind of tip message, which will appear when connection is
impossible.

I really think we should think something out because this problem has a
very negative influence from the outset on potential new Ubuntu users.
The worst part of it is that, if you can't connect to the Internet you
are unable to find a solution.

[Bug 109320] Re: evms blocks access to disk devices

2007-10-11 Thread Jojo
That's a serious bug. After installing Evms my lvm2 volumes could not be
accessed anymore. So I tried to rescue them with Rescue broken system
option from Gusty alternate cd. These are steps, which were necessary tu
take in order to rescue system:

I got separate /boot and in lvm / , /home , /media , /var

1) From rescue broken system go chroot to / (in my case it was in lvm as
mentioned above)
2) apt-get purge evms evms-cli
3) apt-get autoremove - to get rid of libevms-2.5
4) lvm
5) in lvm type -> vgcfgrestore
6) exit from lvm -> exit
7) depmod -a
8) update-initramfs -u
9) restart system
10) if your partitions don't mount edit /etc/fstab and change uuid to
appropriate devices (in my case uuids were broken don't know why)

[Bug 147365] firefox default save location no set properly

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Ubuntu-7.10-beta i386-alternate (30092007) creates several default
folders in /home/user according to chosen localization. Unfortunately
"Pulpit" folder which in polish localization is created by default in

[Bug 69931] Re: MASTER firefox crash [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- libflashplayer.so

2007-10-31 Thread Jojo
There seems to be a simple dependence of the effect upon the cause. The
more tabs I open the less stable Firefox becomes. The longer it runs
without restart the more often it crashes. It likes to crash especially
when after a crash I try to resume a previous session.

[Bug 179202] xscreensaver hangs x on intel 915

2007-12-29 Thread Jojo
Public bug reported:

On my Laptop with Intel 915 after xscreensaver engages it makes X
session unworkable. Cursor starts to move in jumps, and minimizing any
window is almost impossible. Screensaver sometimes won't run, sometimes
it starts after many seconds of pressing close lid button.

Screensaver is set to blank.

I'm using Gusty 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007
