[Bug 322493] [NEW] frozen login out
Public bug reported: Hello, When first clicking on the logoff button of the gnome panel, the kicker and the task bar are frozen (can't perform a click) for a while until I get the log-off menu. There are ~30 seconds between the click on the log-off button and the log-off menu pop up (with actions like disconnect, lock the screen, change the user, hibernate, ...). How to solve the bug ? Thanks. [Bug 383123] [NEW] can't open an attachement if not listed in registered files types
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunderbird Hello, I received an email with a PDF attachment but I have no way to open it except saving it and open it later with my file explorer. Before attempting to open the attachement, I had the below file types association: - file extension: PDF - action: open with kpdf - mime type: application/pdf The attachement had "text/octet-stream" MIME type. [Bug 366094] [NEW] too many virtual consoles
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-services Hello, I installed Xubuntu 8.04 because I wanted a small memory consumption on a travel laptop. I saw that the /etc/event.d file directory defines too many virtual consoles by default. I deleted the files tty3, tty4, tty5 and tty6 in this directory in order to make my box lighter. Could you please ensure there aren't too many consoles by default, especially for Xubuntu ? For example, why not splitting this package into 2 packages: - system-services-core - system-services-extended The Ubuntu distro would make its meta-package(s) depend on system- services-extended (which itself would depend on system-services-core). The Xubuntu distro would make its meta-package(s) depend on system- services-core only. Thanks. [Bug 325255] [NEW] too many consoles by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-services Hello, I think Ubuntu has too many "tty" consoles by default. Most of the users never use at least one. Those never used consoles have the drawback to slowdown the startup time (cold start or resume from disk). For laptops, more startup resources means more energy consumption. Even if the startup benefit or energy saves are small, I think that each small enhancement is an enhancement and thus may have value added side effects on other topics. I think the below files could be deleted: /etc/event.d/tty3 /etc/event.d/tty4 /etc/event.d/tty5 /etc/event.d/tty6 In the case a user wants more "tty" consoles, it means he has enough skills to add them himself. [Bug 511288] Re: middle button isn't easy for dragging the document
Below are the solutions I can imagine : A. key pressed as mode selector When pressing the shift key, the mouse cursor changes from a hand to a caret cursor. Next the mouse can be used for selection and automatic copy like it is currently doing. B. button mode selector in the toolbar 2 buttons in the toolbar could display the current mode and allow to change it as well. One button could select the dragging mode and stay depressed until the user click on the second button which could select the copy mode. The second button would stay depressed while the copy mode is active. C. Simultaneous operation of 2 previous solutions When the mouse cursors comes over the copy mode button, an help ballon could display that this mode is accessible with the shift key too. When pressing the shift key, then the copy mode button state change to depressed and comes back to inactive state when the shift key is released or the user pressed the dragging mode button. -- middle button isn't easy for dragging the document https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I increased the buffer size of VLC ("very high latency" setting) but it didn't solve my issue. Note that boinc-client is running tasks all the time in background with 19 niceness as it did with the previous Ubuntu version. [Bug 494414] [NEW] screen image is dimming to screen saver and appears again
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc With the default settings, VLC seems to let the screensaver start (the delay matches the screensaver delay). Thus the screen image is slowly dimming to the blank screen (my screensaver) and it seems to be waked just after the dimming has reach the end of the sequence (full blank screen). Watchin a vidéo is boring because of those dimming cycles. [Bug 482233] Re: can't disable wifi hardware on Dell Inspiron 1545
The button is not for the computer poweroff but for disabling the wireless adapter. Maybe it is related to the proprietary drivers. Basically I'm not sure it disable the wifi because I have no visual feed back during the 30 seconds after I typed on the button. However I noticed a few changes into the network connection about 1 to 3 minutes later but I don't know if it is related. -- can't disable wifi hardware on Dell Inspiron 1545 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560926] [NEW] copying a 2nd time fails with Epson Perfection 1660 Photo
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xsane I encounter a bug while using the "copy" function of Xsane. The first page is scanned and a few second later it is automatically printed. Next I change the document to be copied and click again on "Numérisation" ("Scanning" in french). Only a part of the new page is printed (~ 2/3). Moreover, the left button of the sanner is blinking instead of showing a steady green light. I noticed that unplugging the scanner and plugging it again makes the green light steady again. However, attempting to copy again makes the same bug appear.
