[Bug 286424] Re: nvidia-settings crashes when user clicks Save To X Configuration File

2008-10-26 Thread Frank Bob
This bug is still present. It's pretty severe since nvidia-settings is
the only GUI way I know of to setup TV out using a Nvidia card.

[Bug 274866] [NEW] nvidia-settings creates invalid xorg.conf

2008-09-26 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

I run kubuntu intrepid

I used nvidia-settings to setup dual screen. I set the TV as a "Separate
X Screen" and saved the configuration to xorg.conf. Tried to restart X
but it failed. Xorg log says

Parse error on line 13 of section Files in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
"RgbPath" is not a valid keyword in this section.

If I comment out the RgbPath line in xorg.conf, everything seems to
work.

The root cause is that X.Org removed the RgbPath option in version 1.5
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1666354&postcount=4

I'm attaching the faulty xorg.conf and resulting xorg log

[Bug 275536] [NEW] firmware haup-ir-blaster.bin not available for hauppauge pvr-150 ir blaster

2008-09-28 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

The IR blaster on hauppauge pvr-150 needs the haup-ir-blaster.bin
firmware for the lirc_pvr150 module to load properly.

sudo modprobe lirc_pvr150 gives this in dmesg

[Bug 275549] [NEW] hauppauge pvr-150 ir blaster cannot use standard lircd.conf definitions for cable box

2008-09-28 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

The ir blaster definitions in /usr/share/lirc/transmitters that are used
in lircd.conf do not work with the hauppauge pvr-150 IR blaster. As I
understand it only signals from codesets that are internal to the
lirc_pvr150 module (maybe they are in the haup-ir-blaster.bin firmware?)
can be sent.

I chose the Hauppauge pvr-150 Dish option for IR transmission in the lirc
configuration.
My /etc/lirc/lircd.conf basically contains
/usr/share/lirc/transmitters/dish/general.conf

The lirc_pvr150 module loads properly as haup-ir-blaster.bin firmware
has been copied to /lib/firmware

If I try to send a signal ('dish' is the remote name, 'power' the
button name)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ irsend SEND_ONCE dish power
irsend: command failed: SEND_ONCE dish power
irsend: transmission failed

and in dmesg:
[ 2729.221935] lirc_pvr150: failed to get data for code 0, key 525 -- check
lircd.conf entries

In fact only codes present in this lircd.conf work:
http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/lmilk/lircd.conf
More info http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/blog/?p=24

Using the above lircd.conf
irsend SEND_ONCE blaster 1_142_KEY_POWER

works. (I found that 142 is the codeset that works with my Bell
Expressvu 3100)

lirc IR blaster setup for the PVR-150 will be complicated by this. There
are 743 different codesets

[Bug 149510] incorrect mapping of hauppauge pvr-150 Power button

2007-10-05 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 card with the Hauppauge remote (not the
Windows MCE remote)

The .mythtv/lircrc generated has the Power button mapped to escape. The
Back/Exit button should be mapped to escape intead. This way, the
Back/Exit would go back in the menus and get rid of the OSD when
watching a recording or live tv.

[Bug 149869] Re: Gutsy Beta Kubuntu could not connect

I have the same problem: Knetworkmanager says: No active device.

I have an integrated network card Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 78)
and a atheros wifi card: Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.
AR5212/AR5213 Multiprotocol MAC/baseband processor (rev 01)

To get my wireless connection working, I disabled encryption and
configured the connection using the Network Settings menu in KDE system
settings. In gutsy Ubuntu (GNOME), networkmanager works fine on the
computer.

I haven't tried earlier kubuntu alphas.

[Bug 149869] Re: Gutsy Beta Kubuntu could not connect

2007-10-10 Thread Frank Bob
I see now that the No active Device message is normal when there is no
connection established.

Knetworkmanager still behaves very strangely.

I somehow managed to get the wireless network to appear when I right-
click the knetworkmanager icon. I'm not sure how it happened. Maybe
because I configured the wireless network manually using the kde config
tool, then remove the ath0 lines in /etc/network/interfaces then kill
and restart NetworkManager.

When I right-clicked the icon, I could see my wireless network. I was
then able to setup the connection with WPA and it worked. I then
restarted the computer to see if it would come up again.

When I restarted and logged in KDE again, the connection was not
established. When I right-clicked the icon, I saw the 'Wired Devices'
part but not the 'Wireless Devices' part. I then tried killing and
restarting NetworkManager. The KDE Wallet popup came and asked me for
the password. The wireless connection I had setup was then established
(using WPA). However, when I right-click the icon, I STILL don't see the
wireless device part and wouldn't be able to change wireless network.

If this problem is widespread, many kubuntu users will not be able to
connect to wireless networks.

[Bug 87440] Re: Desktop freeze when right clicking on a flash with Firefox

2007-05-23 Thread Frank Bob
I see this behaviour but not reproducibly.

I run kubuntu feisty but always use firefox for browsing.

If I right click on a flash part of the web page, sometimes firefox and
all of the desktop freezes. The flash context menu is 'partly drawn'. I
can still move the mouse but I can't click anything and can't type
anything. The freeze usually happens when I've had firefox running for a
long time. I can never reproduce it when I go back to the same web page.

I have firefox 2.0.0.3 from feisty repos
flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.31.0.2ubuntu1
sun-java6-plugin 6-00-2ubuntu2

Using nvidia driver in xorg

This freeze provokes a huge memory leak in X. I switched to console and
saw that Xorg was using 60% of 1 GB of RAM. After I killed the firefox-
bin process, this went down to around 6% (normal). But when I switched
back to X (ctrl-alt-f7) it was still frozen: I could move the mouse but
not click anything. I ended up killing the X session.

If ever I find a way to consistently reproduce this, I'll report it.

The next time it happens, is there anything I could do to isolate the problem?

[Bug 135431] mythtv-database depends on update-notifier only

2007-08-28 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-database

In feisty-proposed,
mythtv-database 0.20.2-0ubuntu0.7.04~proposed1

update-notifier is added as a dependency. I run kubuntu and have adept-
notifier installed instead.

The dependency should be update-notifier or adept-notifier (or neither)

[Bug 197958] Re: Authentication rejected on Kubuntu installation

2008-03-05 Thread Frank Bob
I can confirm this.

With Kubuntu Alpha5 desktop CD, I select 'Install Kubuntu'
When Ubiquity starts, there is an error message caused by dcopserver not
running:

"Error setting up communication for KDE
Authentication rejected...
Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running."

ps -ef | grep dcopserver shows [dcopserver]

When I click ok, I get a kwin crash report (not sure if it's caused by
dcopserver having crashed)

hit enter, then I can go through the installer. not very pretty since
kwin is not running.

cat /var/log/messages | grep dcop shows dcopserver_shut segfault
error 4

[Bug 109447] Xorg uses 100% cpu with xinerama enabled using nvidia driver

2007-04-23 Thread Frank Bob
Public bug reported:

I have a Nvidia Geforce 5200 with a LCD monitor on the DVI port and a TV
on TV out.

I installed and enabled the Nvidia driver from the feisty repository.

I used nvdia-settings to activate the TV as a separate X screen and
checked the Xinerama box.

Saved the X configuration file and restarted X.

Xorg now uses 100% CPU and is sluggish.

If I uncheck the Xinerama box in nvidia-settings, I get a separate X
screen on the TV and Xorg behaves normally.

I'll append a copy of the bad xorg.conf

[Bug 86176] Re: uiquity crashes when installing grub (kubuntu feisty herd4)

2007-02-18 Thread Frank Bob
I added manually the grub menu.lst section to be able to boot feisty in
the list that already included the dapper kernels.

When I rebooted and tried to boot into feisty, it didn't work and grub
told that hda3 didn't contain a recognized file system. It turns out
that the hda3 partition was formatted in ext3 and had feisty installed
on it but the partition table had hda3 listed as W95 FAT (LBA) or
something like that. hda3 contained a windows install earlier. I used
cfdisk to edit the partition table and switch hda3 to type 83. Now grub
can boot into feisty and I'm using it to type this.

Maybe this was the reason the installer wasn't able to install grub.
