[Bug 262066] [NEW] CPU throttled to 12% with kernel 2.6.27
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release:8.10 After upgrading from linux-image-2.6.26-5-generic to linux- image-2.6.27-1-generic, the CPUs are running in throttling state T7 (12%). I have both kernels installed and I'm consistently getting T7 on 2.6.27 and T0 on 2.6.26. Needless to say that the system becomes unusably slow as a result with 2.6.27. Hardware: HP Compaq 6715b notebook with AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56. cat /proc/acpi/processor/C000/throttling (running the 2.6.26 kernel now) state count: 8 active state:T0 state available: T0 to T7 states: *T0: 100% T1: 87% T2: 75% T3: 62% T4: 50% T5: 37% T6: 25% T7: 12% With 2.6.26 I can change the throttling state. With 2.6.27 it shows T7 as the active state and I can't change it. Furthermore I notice that the fan runs much faster on 2.6.27. At the same time the temperature is lower according to /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ1/temperature and also felt at the exhaust vents. It's 50C with 2.6.26 (slow fan) and 43C with 2.6.27 (fast fan). I don't see any messages in the kernel log about overheating. But the fan speed and throttling look to me like the system is thinking it's overheating and is throttling itself. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- CPU throttled to 12% with kernel 2.6.27 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262066 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 392039] Re: fglrx DRI initialization failed
Running Ubuntu 9.10 with kernel 2.6.30? I won't even ask how you got as far as you did. ;) But here is what I think the problem is: Looks like the drm kernel module is loaded. See this message in BootDmesg.txt: "[drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810". Therefore the fglrx kernel module fails to load later on with "[fglrx:firegl_init_module] *ERROR* firegl_stub_register failed". Without the fglrx module loaded, you won't get DRI. You need to unload the drm kernel module before fglrx can be loaded. -- fglrx DRI initialization failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50390] Date format for quoted message header is misleading
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Ubuntu Dapper, evolution 2.6.1-0ubuntu7 Locale: en_CA.UTF-8 When I reply to an email that was sent on e.g. May 24, 2005, evolution inserts the following header in front of the quoted message: On Tue, 2005-24-05 at 09:27 -0500, Joe Blow wrote: I'd expect the month to be before the day. That's also what `date +%F` would do. In this case the date is not ambiguous. But 2006-09-06 would be worse. I would read that as September 6, 2006, but it really means June 9. I didn't find a way to change the quoted reply header in the Preferences dialogues or using the gconf-editor so I'm assuming it's hard coded in the source or gettext files. I just dist-upgraded to version 2.21.92-0ubuntu1. Now the symptoms are different. Me too. Not sure what you mean with blacklisting. ohci_hcd depends on ssb, so I can't really prevent ssb from being loaded if I want USB to work. [Bug 197558] Re: ssb module breaks BCM4328 with ndiswrapper (regression from 2.6.24-10)
There was a bug in my workaround that resulted in broken USB. I misspelled the ohci_hcd module name in the last modprobe command. Replace the install-line I added to /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper with this one: install ndiswrapper modprobe -r ohci_hcd ssb; modprobe --ignore-install ndiswrapper $CMDLINE_OPTS; modprobe ohci_hcd Now I have USB and Wlan working at the same time. Anders, I tried your approach first, and it worked great when I loaded the ssb or ohci_hcd module manually using modprobe. [Bug 561292] Re: Resume from sleep fails / extremely slow with fglrx
The fglrx driver saves all used video memory to system memory before suspending. When you suspend to disk all that memory also has to be swapped out to the swap partition. If you have a graphics card with lots of memory and not a lot of available system memory, the saving of video memory will cause a lot of paging. This will affect your performance on suspend/resume. If your swap partition is too small that may cause suspend to fail completely. Three factors that will have a big impact on your suspend performance: 1. amount of video memory (reported by amdcccle) 2. amount of available system memory (reported by free, 2nd line "-/+ buffers/cache") 3. amount of available swap space (reported by free, 3rd line) Some rules of thumbs: 1. You should have about 1GB more system memory than video memory, more is better 2. You should have more swap space than system memory, typically by a factor 2 Possible remedies (depending on your situation): 1. make sure your swap partition is big enough, typical recommendation is 2x amount of RAM 2. get more RAM (always a good idea and a cheap option to improve overall system performance and responsiveness) -- Resume from sleep fails / extremely slow with fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was also able to reproduce the problem by simply reinstalling the same version of devicekit-disks: # cd /var/cache/apt/archives # dpkg --install devicekit-disks_007-2ubuntu6_amd64.deb After the installation completes, inserted CDs or DVDs are not automounted. If I open "Places->Computer" and double click on the CD/DVD drive, nothing happens. It's as if not CD was in the drive. If I insert a blank media, nothing happens. Brasero is unable to burn anything because it claims there is no media in the drive. But I can manually mount CDs and DVDs: # mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0 After mounting it manually the media is detected and a Nautilus window pops up with the contents of the CD/DVD. After that automatic media detection works again. I can eject the CD from Nautilus. When I reinsert it, it is automatically mounted. Somehow manually mounting the media removes whatever internal blockage was preventing media detection. Your Xorg.log.auto looks OK. Xorg.log.manu looks incomplete, like the output of the Xserver on the console it was started from. Either way, there is no more crash or segault. The black screen when you start X without any clients connecting to the Xserver is normal. As far as I can tell, the Xserver and graphics driver are working now. Not sure why GDM is still not working. Can you reboot, let GDM fail, reboot again into recovery mode and grab copies of /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old? I don't see anything wrong with the log files. X starts, apparently in the monitor's native resolution (1920x1080). Then there is a VT switch and finally it looks like a clean shutdown. [Bug 578736] Re: fglrx broken (no 3D, jerky movements & scrolling).won't uninstall
Looks like a version mismatch between the kernel module and the user- space X driver. I'd recommend uninstalling all versions of fglrx that you have installed, make sure that dkms doesn't have any old fglrx kernel module versions hanging around and then reinstall the driver, either Catalyst or the driver in Ubuntu, but not both. -- fglrx broken (no 3D, jerky movements & scrolling).won't uninstall https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578736 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 429419] Re: [Kubuntu] xorg.conf needs to be reconfigured at each reboot
The steps you take to recover your system (dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg; aticonfig --initial -f) do much more than changing xorg.conf. I have two possible suspicions. 1: Due to the age of the system I suspect that it's an AGP board, correct? Maybe the sequence or timing of loading fglrx and the AGP drivers is causing problems. When in recovery mode, instead of your steps above try "rmmod fglrx; modprobe fglrx" and resume booting. Does that help? 2: Instead of the steps above, try this in recovery mode before you resume booting: rm /etc/ati/amdpcsdb. Do NOT delete /etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default, though. /etc/ati/amdpcsdb is where the driver remembers settings in between X sessions. It's possible that a combination of remembered settings in amdpcsdb and the cold reboot (which reinitializes the hardware) triggers the problem on your hardware. When you reboot from Windows, it doesn't completely reinitialize the hardware. Some register values, clocks, even parts of the framebuffer are preserved from how the Windows driver initialized the hardware. -- [Kubuntu] xorg.conf needs to be reconfigured at each reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429419 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1787845] [NEW] Broken xdriinfo on Ubuntu 18.04 breaks driconf
Public bug reported: driconf doesn't work on Ubuntu 18.04. The reason is that xdriinfo fails with "Screen 0: not direct rendering capable." There appears to be a fix for this upstream: https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xdriinfo/commit/?id=6273d9dacbf165331c21bcda5a8945c8931d87b8 Building my own xdriinfo from the upstream source code fixed the problem for me. Please consider updating xdriinfo for Ubuntu 18.04 to unbreak driconf.
