Your Xorg.log file indicates that you're still using the Radeon driver and DRI is disabled. That's why compiz is not starting. Sounds like you're using your own session startup script. Try replacing compiz with metacity, that way you'll at least be able to move your windows around and get through your finals.
Then you can figure our what went wrong with the fglrx installation. I'm quite sure there is already a bug report for the "trying to overwrite '/etc/ati/signature'" problem.
