I think something it's broken with the chart. In MS Excel I don't see

The same with me... I have several partitions with VFAT, NTFS and EXT3
that have the "noauto"-Option in /etc/fstab.

If I mount them manually after start they are not shown in Nautilus at
the rights side or even on teh Desktop. I can only access them by going
to /media/name.

[Bug 50522] Moving bmp to another desktop leaves playlist behind

2006-06-20 Thread Dee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: beep-media-player

If you open beep-media-player with a playlist (It's important that the
playlist is activated at start!) and then click with the right mouse on
the bmp-tab in the panel and select "Move to another Panel" only the bmp
main window is moved, the playlist stays on the current desktop.

The playlist isn't shown in the panel anymore, but you can access it. If
you close it, the bmp main window will return to the current desktop.

If you deactivate the playlist and activate it again before moving bmp
everything works fine.

This behaviour is only since Ubuntu Dapper I think...

[Bug 228604] [NEW] Segmentation Fault with Excel sheet

2008-05-09 Thread Dee
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
Program: OpenOffice.org 2.4.0

Description: I have an Excel sheet (unfortunately it's business and I
cannot attach it) and if I open it with OOo-Calc the program only
crashes. No output is given in the terminal.

The sheet contains two tabs. In the first there is an empty chart (no
data rows or columns assigned), the second is about 100 lines simple
text.

Bugtrace is attached.

In OOo 2.3 under Windows the sheets opens normally. I will test it with
Ubuntu Gutsy later and report.

I only had the problem running the 64-bit version. I switched to 32-bit,
and it worked fine. There were no steps to reproduce it. It just didn't
work. I just think the 64-bit version isn't truly ready yet. I do have a
64-bit processor.

[Bug 144286] hunspell-de-de removes Mozilla programs

2007-09-23 Thread Dee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hunspell-de-de

If you install hunspell-de-de or any other dictionary for hunspell the
following files are in conflict with the package and will be removed
(from the control-file):

openoffice.org (<= 1.0.3-2), openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-de, myspell-
de-de, mozilla-browser, iceape-browser, firefox, thunderbird, iceweasel,
icedove

Why should the Mozilla programs be in conflict with a dictionary? If
hunspell-de-de conflicts with myspell-de-de (And I'm not sure if it
does!) then it should remove myspell-de-de and therefore automatically
(!) all depended packages like thunderbird-locale-de, mozilla-
thunderbird-locale-de, language-support-de, etc.

Please fix the dependencies of the hunspell dictonaries because it's
impossible to use it in all standard Ubuntu installations because
Firefox is installed (and will be used in most cases).

[Bug 193560] Re: gnome-settings-daemon not logged in when started

2009-11-28 Thread Dee
Hello,

I still have the problem and set the bug to incomplete in hope my infos
will be enough to fix it.

$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=intrepid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.10"

$ ps aux | grep gnome-settings
dee   6052  0.0  0.0 162828  4024 ?Ss   07:37   0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.8304 Release
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

(I'm using the standard fglrx-driver from the repository.)

Attached you find a tar-file with ~/.xsessions-error, /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

My current solution: Even if the "gnome-settings-daemon" is started do

$ gnome-settings-daemon

in a terminal. Then it take a little time and the correct theme will be
installed and everything works as it should.

[Bug 1248256] Re: [MacBookPro10, 1] Plugging in displayport monitor causes kworker to take 100% CPU

2016-10-08 Thread Dee
Not sure the status of this bug, but I just installed Ubuntu
5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.2 with Linux version 4.4.0-38-generic on a dual
core machine with an onboard GeForce 9400.

I ran into the issue of one of the cores running at 100% when ever I
turned on my monitor and connected to the terminal via DVI/HDMI. If I
reboot and only ssh to the machine I get <1% usage across both cores at
idle, but as soon as I switch on the monitor one of the cores jumps to
100%

I ran "sudo perf record -g -a sleep 20" then "sudo perf report --sort
comm,dso" and this is what I found in the report:

-  100.00%99.85%  kworker/1:7  [kernel.kallsyms]
   - 100.00% ret_from_fork
kthread
worker_thread
  - process_one_work
 - 99.97% nvif_notify_work
+ nouveau_connector_hotplug
 + 0.03% nvkm_notify_work
 + 0.00% vmstat_update
 0.00% native_write_msr_safe
-  100.00% 0.09%  kworker/1:7  [nouveau]
   - 99.88% nvif_notify_work
  - nouveau_connector_hotplug
 - 99.87% drm_helper_hpd_irq_event
- 99.86% nouveau_connector_detect
   + 96.48% drm_get_edid
   + 3.39% i2c_transfer
   + 0.00% drm_mode_object_find
+ 0.00% mutex_unlock
 + 0.01% mutex_lock
   + 0.09% ret_from_fork
   + 0.03% nvkm_notify_work
+   99.96% 0.00%  kworker/1:7  [drm_kms_helper]
+   99.93% 0.05%  kworker/1:7  [i2c_algo_bit]
+   96.56% 0.01%  kworker/1:7  [drm]
+0.01% 0.00%  kworker/1:7  [forcedeth]

So it looks like I got struck but this same hotplug issue. If I connect
to my monitor via VGA i don't get the CPU spike...works for me since I
am running my machine headless but if anyone else needs to connect via
HDMI/DVI this could be an issue. I'm not sure if installing the nvidia
drivers fixes the hotplug cpu spike up.

[Bug 911981] Re: tracker-store uses 100% cpu and fills all the disk space in home partition

2016-05-24 Thread Dee
As recommended workaround i get this:
gsettings set org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files crawling-interval -2
gsettings set org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files enable-monitors false
tracker-control -r
This will disable the constant indexing and cleanup the indexers database.

[Bug 745608] Re: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900

2012-04-27 Thread Dee
Reproducible on NB DELL Latitude D420 with Ubuntu 12.04 Precise

lspci |grep -i vga tells: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel
Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics
Controller (rev 03)

Please fix this hell or provide workaround, all applications have
missing lines in the fonts, from terminal window to presentations and
that does not look good but strange.

I receive this bug every boot/login time of my ubuntu. Fortunatelly it's not
too often. Everything else works, so it's not a terrible problem, just look
very bad when someone is watching.
Retyped some error message details:
Ubuntu 14.04, (in reality it is Xubuntu)
amd64,
proc cmdline: /use/bin/X -core : -seat seat -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/: -
-novtswitchnolisten tcp vt
Uname: Linux 3.13.0-54-generic x86_64
Some packages reported as "old", updates are on everyday: initscripts,
libapparmor, sysv-rc, sysvinit-utils

@manolo: Reporting library allows to ignore future similar bugs by
crossing a checkbox, switching to another Os is not necessary

[Bug 594697] [NEW] After daily update cannot reboot AMD64

I have:

I have Catalyst 10.5 for Linux installed in Lucid Linux (10.04) 64 bit.

Everything worked fine, using Lucid 10.04 (AMD64), until doing the
morning update on 06-15-2010. Now the machine boots up to where the
screen turns purple and then goes black. This was as before when
everything worked. The machine hangs at this point, with no disk

Leo, when I followed your instructions the screen stayed black until 5
line segments of compressed video very briefly appeared at the top of

the screen went completely black, and there was no further HD activity.

Fwd: Re: [Bug 594697] Re: After daily update cannot reboot AMD64

2010-06-17 Thread dee

Leo, you can close Bug Report #594697.

I could not boot from either the Generic or the Recovery mode following
your instructions, as indicated in my reply to you on 06/15/2010. Then
I tried removing the Grub entry vga=799. The machine still would not
boot from Generic, but did boot from the Recovery mode.

I found that fglrx had been removed during the update that started this
Bug Report. Restoring this did not correct my problem. What did
correct it was reinstalling Catalyst.

Thank you for your concern and help. I hope that this will be of value
to others.

[Bug 284951] Re: Intrepid: Gamepad "Saitek P580" not working in games, buttons not detected.

2008-10-26 Thread Jonny Dee
Thanx a lot, CyberConan,

I use my heli control pad for a heli simulator running under wine
(strangely enough this windows application does not work under windows
vista--but under wine it does ;) ). It was recognized gracefully as a
joystick under hardy, but, surprisingly under intrepid, I suddenly had
the same issue as you all. I could control my mouse but not my heli.
Your deb-Package fixed my problem :) :) :) Many thanx also to Albert
Damon for his fix!!! And I also agree--it's not a non-critical issue,
but it definitely IS a critical issue!

Best regards,
Jonny

[Bug 274681] [NEW] g-p-m has become schizophrenic

2008-09-26 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

After yesterday's/today's set of upgrades to Intrepid, gnome-power-
manager has started reporting two separate power levels. One, showed on
mouse-over and indicated in the tray icon, appears to be wildly
incorrect. The other, indicated on left click, seems to show the correct
reading.

[Bug 279707] [NEW] xorg uses radeonhd, which doesn't cooperate with compiz, by default

2008-10-07 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

After the most recent round of updates, X.org appears to be using the
radeonhd (instead of the ati) driver by default on my Thinkpad T60 with
an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400. As this driver is not in compiz's
whitelist, this causes compiz to revert to metacity. Problem fixed by
adding a Driver line to my video device section in xorg.conf, but unless
there are plans to make radeonhd and compiz cooperate, this might cause
problems.

[Bug 272285] [NEW] [Intrepid][Regression] 2.6.27 fails to boot when given a root device via LABEL=foo

2008-09-19 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

Kernel 2.6.27 exhibits a regression that precludes specifying a root
device via human-readable labels: when giving the kernel a root device
via GRUB, one cannot pass a device via LABEL=sensical-name, but must
instead feed in a string of arbitrary, random hexadecimal digits. Labels
do still appear to work everywhere else (in /etc/fstab, etc.); the issue
seems to be confined to specifying the root device on boot-up. This
appears to be a regression from 2.6.24, where it can be verified that
booting from labeled roots does work.

To duplicate this behavior (with a root device whose label is, say,
hostname-root, and whose UUID is, say, deadbeef-cafe-b33f-c0de-b33fb33fb33f):
1. In /boot/grub/menu.lst, find the line that reads "#
kopt=root=UUID=deadbeef-cafe-b33f-c0de-b33fb33fb33f ro", and change it to read
"# kopt=root=LABEL=hostname-root ro".
2. Run "sudo update-grub".
3. Reboot. Kernel 2.6.27 freezes hard early in the boot process, while kernel
2.6.24 will still boot up smoothly.

[Bug 272292] [NEW] [Intrepid] No on-screen display for volume or brightness control on Thinkpad T60

2008-09-19 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

In Intrepid, though my volume and brightness keys do still control
volume and brightness, they no longer give any visible response on-
screen. That is, while I can still raise, lower, or mute the volume with
the hardware volume buttons, no change is registered by the volume
applet; it does not visually identify itself as muted when muted, nor
does its level change when the actual volume is changed. There is no
onscreen volume display either, and what's more, xev doesn't register
volume keypresses.

With brightness, there is again no onscreen display or indication (aside
from the brightness actually changing); however, xev does register
keypresses, as shown in the attachment.

I'm reporting this as an ACPI issue; however, I'm not sure where the
true problem lies.

[Bug 272969] [NEW] [Intrepid] Screen artifacts on resume with Radeon Mobility X1400 on Thinkpad T60

2008-09-21 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

On resuming from suspend, I'll occasionally see colored lines on
shadows, or else shadows replaced with solid white, or other similar
screen corruptions. This is on a Thinkpad T60 with a Mobility X1400,
using whichever drivers Intrepid uses out of the box.

One rather disingenuous workaround is to toggle bicubic filtering in
compiz.

[Bug 342980] Re: windows stop redrawing after some time

2009-03-16 Thread Steve Dee
Er, in the video, watch the seconds ticker on the clock to see when the
panel stops redrawing. The NetworkManager icon changing size on
connecting to a network (as Josh says) causes the panel to stop
redrawing; moving the panel around causes it to start redrawing again.

If a Firefox window happens to be open at this time, it will also stop
responding until it is moved, exhibiting similar behavior to the panel
in this respect.

[Bug 342980] Re: windows and panels stop redrawing

2009-03-18 Thread Steve Dee
N.B., this isn't triggered with a full-width panel.

** Summary changed:

- windows stop redrawing after some time
+ windows and panels stop redrawing

** Description changed:

- After leaving things alone for a while, the panel and some windows will
- stop redrawing in compiz. This presented itself as nm-applet failing to
- show changing networks status, but seems to be a more general
- phenomenon. I've not yet found any way to reliably reproduce it, but it
- does seem to happen fairly often under extended use.
+ Under some conditions, certain windows and panels will stop being
+ redrawn while using compiz. This persists until they are moved around or
+ minimized/restored. This is particularly bad with panels---while it
+ rapidly becomes apparent that an application has stopped visually
+ responding, there is usually no obvious sign at all that the panel has
+ stopped updating, resulting in reading the wrong time or in thinking
+ that panel applets are in a different state from reality.
+
+ One way to reliably reproduce this bug (as shown in the attached video)
+ is to, while connected to a wireless network, with applets in a non
+ –full-width panel, use nm-applet to initiate a connection to another
+ network. This causes the panel to stop responding, as well as certain
+ windows (observed with a full-screen Firefox window.)

[Bug 345289] [NEW] pointer still active in host machine when it's "hidden"

2009-03-19 Thread Steve Dee
Public bug reported:

When you click on a running VM in VirtualBox, it starts capturing mouse
input---the host cursor disappears, leaving only the guest cursor.

However, it appears that mouse input is still being seen by the host OS
---though it does not appear as though clicks are being parsed. The
movement alone can cause issues, though---for instance, attached is a
video of what happens when the mouse cursor is captured while it happens
to be hovering over gnome-do.

To reproduce this, make the VirtualBox window active, hover over a
Docky-themed gnome-do, and then press the Host key (right Control by
default) to capture mouse input. Move around, and watch things get
captured. Note that this is not the only situation where this happens---
the host cursor can initially be anywhere and still wind up over the
gnome-do dock, though it's much more stochastic when it doesn't start
there.

This doesn't seem to be a very high-importance thing, but it does
violate the user's expectations, and should therefore probably be
corrected.

Yes, the problem's still here.

I really don't want to upgrade my Dell 1525n to a later Ubuntu release until

upgrading that machine to whatever the bleeding edge Ubuntu is and report

[Bug 263446] Re: [hardy] yelp not printing GnuCash tutorial

2008-08-31 Thread Dee Waters
Some more info. I verified that my printer is working, rebooted ubuntu,
tried again (all pages, even only). Yelp did send a print job to CUPS
-- it printed pages 3, 7, and 11 before I canceled the job. (I was
expecting pages 2, 4, and 6). I'm now printing all 145 pages without
getting fancy and have no problems -- except mourning the unnecessary
loss of a tree. I can't find a place on this site for suggestions, but
having some way for yelp to tell me which file it's reading would be a
great help on the rare occasions I need it -- that would save a great
deal of directory searching. Thanks again.

[Bug 240083] [NEW] lhs2tex should depend on texlive-math-extra

2008-06-14 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lhs2tex

polycode.fmt depends on the theoretical computer science fonts located
in stmaryrd.sty, which is part of texlive-math-extra. Without that
package installed, any documents run through lhs2TeX with polycode.fmt
will fail to build.

[Bug 240088] [NEW] First line of polycode blocks is indented/misaligned

2008-06-14 Thread Steven Dee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lhs2tex

Using polycode.fmt, any code blocks that contain an empty line have
their first line indented. This offsets any alignment applied to the
first line.

Example document exhibiting this behavior:

\documentclass{article}
%include polycode.fmt
\begin{document}
\begin{code}
foo  ::  String
foo  =   "Foo!"

bar  :: String
bar  =   "Bar!"
\end{code}
\end{document}

[Bug 409532] [NEW] Poor wording of suggestion box message for "Apt authentication issue"

2009-08-05 Thread Steve Dee
Public bug reported:

When apt encounters an authentication error during an upgrade, it
advises you to "try to click on" a button. As long as the accessibility
team is doing its job right, you should never "try", and then fail, to
click on the button. You should click on the button to try to correct
the problem.
