I just tried a fresh install in VMWare. After clicking help in gnome-screenshot, it takes 4 seconds for the help window to appear and then 8 seconds more for the content to appear. [Bug 259540] [NEW] Wubi - "No root file system is defined" error

After the desktop was loaded, an error dialog appeared, saying: No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu. [Bug 397127] [NEW] connecting to SMB share gives no error code
Public bug reported: When the server password is expired, Ubuntu gives no error message at all. Ubuntu 9.04 x86 - up to date as of Wed Jul 8 18:43:33 UTC 2009 Steps: - log in (as main/only user) - select menu Places / Computer in File Browser window - select "Network" in left pane (location changes to network:/// ) there is already a near computer shown as icon - double click the computer icon - fill out the dialog (user, pass) After few seconds, the user/pass dialog reappears. Repeat, until bored. (a semilong story about what everything I tried to resolve the problem - not printed here) Checking with smbclient reveals that the used password was expired. Luckily I know that the Ubuntu GUI is next to useless and have experience with command line. If this would happen to my father, we would give me a call as say "When you get home set mu up Windows, which works" (relation to bug #1 ?) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- connecting to SMB share gives no error code https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397127 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 398428] [NEW] folder sharing not working without reboot
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 9.04 (up to date) I did this: - create a folder in home dir - right click it and select "Sharing Options" - in the dialog enabled "Share this folder" - OK'ed the dialog saying to install sharing components, entered password - in a dialog telling me that a restart of session is needed, I clicked "Restart" Expected result: Being able to access the shared folder from other PC Actual result: When trying to open the shared folder on other PC (Windows XP Pro SP3) it pops up a dialog asking for username and password. I enter my username and password that I use on the linux box, but it just shows the same dialog again. The share (also new created ones) appears in the My Network Places, I just can not open it due to authentication failure. That was yesterday. Since then I shut down my Ubuntu box and todey I started it again. Now, sharing works as expected: I click the share on the Windows PC, it asks for user/pass, I enter it, and voila, I have access to shared files. It seems the mentioned "restart" button does not do its work properly. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- folder sharing not working without reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410085] [NEW] should not read image file just for checksum
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero Recently I burned a DVD-R from an ISO image file. It was very slow. The reason: brasero reads the input ISO file twice, once for the checksum, then again for the actual burning. In my case the file was heavily fragmented and the performance was very poor (5 minutes to read the file instead of 1 minute when not fragmented). The fragmentation is a separate issue, but braseo could be optimized by reading the file only once. While burning, it could parallelly compute the checksum. Or if that is hard to implement: Do not use checksum at all, but compare the burned data to the input file. This way in case of verify error, the exact point(s)/sectors(s) of mismatch can be identified. Frankly, the current way of doing seems the wors possible (except if the checksum is remembered, but reading other bugs suggests that it is not).
