[Bug 54513] DHCP and DNS do not function on eth0 with kernel 2.6.15-26-k7 - works fine with 2.6.15-25-k7

Disabling IPv6 does help (I was able to boot with the 2.6.15-26-k7 kernel and use the internet with DNS working), but when I did an 'ifconfig eth0 down' followed by an 'ifconfig eth0 up' (or /etc/init.d/networking stop followed by /etc/init.d/networking start) again I can access the internet via IP Addresses, but have no DNS, and am unable to obtain an IP via DHCP. -- DHCP and DNS do not function on eth0 with kernel 2.6.15-26-k7 - works fine with 2.6.15-25-k7 https://launchpad.net/bugs/54513 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had the same problem with the Final Stable release of Ubuntu 7.10, using TightVNC Server. WSJ's trick noted above of typing US (displayed as mb) in the Configuration Editor > desktop > gnome > peripherals > keyboard > kbd Layout key worked great, but this seems more like a bandage than a real fix. [Bug 173330] Conflicting tools to set resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk Resolution settings in the Screens and Graphics tool (displayconfig-gtk) are ignored upon reboot (or restart of x) if there is a different resoltuion set in the Screen Resolution tool (gnome-display-properties). For simplicity of use, and to avoid headaches for less technologically inclined users there should be 1 default tool to change resolutions. I would recomend Leaving the Screens and Graphics tool (as it is more powerful) and removing the Screen Resolution tool. Perhaps it could just be hidden by default in the Gnome menu? I like both tools, but having multiple places to change settings is not good when they dont talk to each other, and can have conflicting settings. [Bug 109643] system frequently locks up with white screen with black lines while nvidia restricted driver in use must hard boot system
Public bug reported: Frequently while using Ubuntu 7.04 in Gnome with the NVidia Restricted Driver enabled I get complete system lockups requiring a hard-reboot. When this happens the screen becomes mostly white with a random scrambled pattern of mostly-black lines. This happens even more frequently if Beryl or Compiz are enabled, but I have had it happen many times even when neither of these are running. There does not appear to be any specific action that is causing this behavior. It happened once while surfing in Firefox, once while setting up new accounts in gAIM, once while installing packages with Automatix, etc. I have yet to have this problem when I do not have the Nvidia restricted driver enabled, however I have not spent a lot of time in the system without this driver, as the usability of the system without graphic drivers is very limited in my opinion. This happens for me several times per week. The hardware seems pretty stable when running other Operating systems (my testing in other OSes with this equipment was pretty limited). The system is running very cool, so no signs of overheating. There was some mention in the forums of possible problems with Processor Stepping ("cool 'n' quiet mode"), I haven't made a lot of changes to BIOS settings yet, so I cant confirm/deny that this is related, but I have a suspicion that this is more related to how the Kernel is interacting with the video drivers. Hardware Profile: Biostar Geforce 6100-m9 Motherboard (On-board Geforce 6100 video) AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Venice 1GB PC3200 Memory (I have tried both the AMD64 and X86 versions of Ubuntu, and experience the same problem in both environments) Several complaints that seem to be related have been discussed in the forums here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=405993 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=402580 ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- system frequently locks up with white screen with black lines while nvidia restricted driver in use must hard boot system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 109649] The install dialog box is larger than the default resolution (800x600). Next button cannot be seen without removing toolbars.
Public bug reported: When I boot the Ubuntu 7.04 Live/Install CD and choose the Install option the install screen comes up larger than the size of the default 800x600 screen. The buttons (Cancel, Back, Next, etc) are not visible/clickable. My work-around to this was to enable auto-hide for both tool-bars and move the install screen to the very top of the screen. Even then I was unable to read what the buttons said but could at least click on the button that I guessed to be correct. The install screen should be resizable. It would be nice if the default size fit nicely in an 800x600 resolution without any resizing needed. Perhaps scroll-bars would be needed, but this could really deter a new user from installing the system. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- The install dialog box is larger than the default resolution (800x600). I did disable the Cool 'n' quiet mode, and the system has not locked up since ... I will continue to test. So at this point I am not certain if this is related to the NVidia drivers, or not. I didn't have the problem until I enabled the video driver, but perhaps that was a coincidence, or perhaps running the nvidia driver was just enough of a load on the processor to cause the CPU stepping. Maybe it was the combination of the 3. Either way it is looking like this issue may primarily be related to the kernel. I would really like to be able to better determine the root cause. Hi, I'm one of the authors of the cryptography plugin. I think I know what your problem is. I have been able to get a fresh install of Kubuntu 8.10 working with these steps: 1 - ensure that the package gnupg-agent is installed 2 - in a terminal, run the command 'gpg'. Since this is probably the first time you have run it, it will create the configuration files you need. Exit gpg with Ctrl+C. 3 - Log out of KDE and log back in again. 4 - Run Kopete and try to send a signed message (or try to recieve an encrypted message). It should prompt you for your password and then work correctly. Please tell me if this works. [Bug 293146] Re: Encrypted messages are not shown
Ubuntu's gnupg-agent package comes with a script located at /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent This script runs whenever an X session starts and it tries to start gpg-agent. In a clean Kubuntu system, this appears to work correctly if the ~/.gnupg directory is populated with the correct configuration files (which is *not* the default situation). These config files are generated when gpg is run for the first time, not until then. The link you provided appears that it will get gpg-agent going when you start your session, but in a very hackish way. It would be far easier to just run gpg and then restart your X session. -- Encrypted messages are not shown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 254006] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Recuerde - a simple list manager
Public bug reported: Me and a friend have written a list manager app in Python with wxWidgets. The idea behind it is that it's not just a to-do list, but it can be used to keep track of anything. User can create any number of lists, and put any items in them. What make Recuerde unique is that the user can define what fields items should have in any given list. For example: One list is for groceries, so this list will only have the item names. Another list is for appointments, so that will have the item names, as well as a date attached to each one. This app is unique because of how it is written (I don't know of any other app in ubuntu done in wxPython.) I haven't fulfilled some of the usual requirements because they seem silly for a Python app. The source code has an installer script in it that basically copies my python files into /usr/lib/recuerde, a .desktop file into /usr/share/applications, and an icon into /usr/share/icons. The package can just put those files there. I run Ubuntu myself, so I'm pretty sure it will work on it. Recuerde depends on python 2.5 and wxPython 2.8 for python 2.5 (not sure the exact ubuntu package names, but I can find out) Thanks for looking at my app. Our site is recuerde.googlecode.com ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: needs-packaging -- [needs-packaging] Recuerde - a simple list manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1273462] [NEW] Upstart job config and init.d script are incompatible with each other
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 mysql-server-5.5: Installed: 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 Candidate: 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 Version table: *** 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 0 500 http://us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 5.5.32-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main amd64 Packages In Ubuntu 13.10, the Upstart job and the init.d script do not work properly. In previous versions, the init.d script was a symlink to the wrapper script around upstart (/lib/init/upstart-job). This conflict means that if the server was started using the init.d script, upstart does not recognize that the server is running and will attempt to start a second instance of mysqld. Also problematic is that if the upstart job is started using the service or start commands, the init.d script's "stop" function runs a mysql shutdown, but upstart simply restarts mysqld (because it's marked respawn in the upstart config). ** Affects: mysql-5.5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: init scripts upstart -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273462 Title: Upstart job config and init.d script are incompatible with each other To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.5/+bug/1273462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
