[Bug 67188] Re: Lack of Polish diacritic symbols during writting, no Polish keyboard activated
I installed Feisty. On Dapper I had a qwerty Polish keyboard, a common standard in Poland. In Feisty I do not have the same Polish keyboard - it is qwertz instead with Polish diacritics in different places. Unlike the user above there was no "XkbVariant" line in my xorg.conf file. Instead, in the line Option "XkbLayout" "ie" I changed ie to pl. Now I have the Polish qwerty keyboard I need - however I get a warning message when gnome starts. It is a bug if a feature once available easily on Preferences > keyboard can now be only achieved by various editing of xorg.conf -- Lack of Polish diacritic symbols during writting, no Polish keyboard activated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/67188 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67188] Re: Lack of Polish diacritic symbols during writting, no Polish keyboard activated
On reading the Polish forums forum.ubuntu.pl there is a sticky explaining how to edit the xorg.conf file as above to get Polish keyboard. Re: [Bug 155826] Re: networked printer spits out extra blank page
Ubuntu 8.10, all updates applied: The bug is still reproduced, an extra (blank) page is ejected at the end of every print job. I've given up using the print server a while ago due to this problem. Directly through usb (without the print server) it works fine. Tell me if you need some additional information! Thanks for caring about this annoying problem! [Bug 302693] Re: apt-cacher-ng hangs and corrupts packages (intrepid)
I don't think that cherry picking is a good idea here. That issue is not some missing bounds or null pointer check (or similar obvious bug), instead we have a nebulous problem here. For the fix between 0.2.1 and 0.2.2 (the Debian frozen version) I can provide a patch which might help and which is restricted to the changes in core (see attachment). But for 0.1.9, that's too different. Sorry guys, I cannot help you if you took a bloody EARLY version from Debian UNSTABLE and have put an LTS sticker on it. That's just your own design flaw in the release process and I have no motivation in helping to work around that. ** Attachment added: "acng_core_0.2.1-0.2.2.diff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19988402/acng_core_0.2.1-0.2.2.diff -- apt-cacher-ng hangs and corrupts packages (intrepid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 302693] Re: apt-cacher-ng hangs and corrupts packages (intrepid)
This might be one of the ghost problems with file storage code, see 0.2.2 changelog: * Fix: incorrect creation of sparse files in few (unusual) conditions; also made data/header file opening sequences more safe and reliable and added/improved some limited recovery methods * better logging of important cache storage errors However I recommend to be less conservative and go for version 0.3.3. Yes, it has changed lots of code since 0.2.2 but most of that on the maitnenance part and not on the core. And that part had a lot of internal flaws that needed to be fixed/replaced. It also got functionality to clean up the mess caused by pre-0.2.2 versions on some systems. -- apt-cacher-ng hangs and corrupts packages (intrepid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

a) relax b) relax c) make a backup. If you don't have extra space then you could create a pseudo backup with a tree of hardlinks, thus the files/directories won't be lost if the cache is nuked for some reasons. (how? "cp -al /var/cache/apt-cacher-ng /var/tmp/apt-cacher-ng-cache-backup") d) which version was actually used to (originally) download the files in question? I guess it was the old rotten one from current ubuntu "stable" e) with the new version, you have more options in the expiration web frontend. First, you can see the files scheduled for removal. Second, you can run an integrity check (file contents verification). If you like colored log messages, set the "verbose" flag too and watch the output of checksumming. When it's through then you can check the list of files-for-removal and then directly remove them (see new buttons on the expiration control page). [Bug 310088] Re: restore-trash crashes if the original path does not exist (even if it's in the same trash can)
One more suggestion: Don't name the trash command "trash-file" unless there are absolutely compulsory reasons for it. My arguments against "trash-file": * It is not intuitive and therefore unnecessarily difficult to memorise. * It is unnecessarily long. * Every change in the name of programs causes confusion, so the new solution should be a clear improvement (which it isn't). * It is even wrong: Directories can be trashed, too. Just "trash" was much better. However, I welcome the renaming of "restore-trash" to "trash-restore", "list-trash" to "trash-list" etc. This is intuitive and allows the user to look for the appropriate command with the tab key. -- restore-trash crashes if the original path does not exist (even if it's in the same trash can) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In any case, restore-trash should cope with the various problems that can occur when trying to restore the directory: * it may be on a partition that has been unmounted, * the user may have removed it with rm instead of trash, so it cannot be restore-trashed itself, or * there may be several levels of directories missing (and they may be trashed or removed, or a mix of both), or * there may be a permissions issue, or * etc. Thanks for working on this long-awaited little (but not so trivial) tool! ** Affects: trash-cli (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- restore-trash crashes if the original path does not exist (even if it's in the same trash can) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That's correct. The error message is about the IPv6 socket not being created. Unfortunately the order of libc (getaddrinfo result) seems to have been changed and that causes the problem now. [Bug 155826] networked printer spits out extra blank page
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cupsys [Is cupsys really the right package for this problem?] After every print job, a blank page is ejected, be it a normal print job from any application or a test page from the xfce printing settings dialog. The same printer works fine by USB and on Windows (USB and network). This is very annoying because the blank pages cause paper jams if I try to reuse them. The printer, a HP Laserjet 1200 is plugged into the usb port of my adsl router that contains a print server (Siemens Gigaset SX541 WLAN dsl). On http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=369972 you can see how I managed to connect it at all: - I went to Applications, Settings, Printing - I chose New Printer - I gave my wirelessed printer a nice name - under "Select Connection" / "Devices", i chose "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" - I specified the hostname: "192.168.2.1" - I specified the printername: "LPT1" (...) - I chose my printer manufacturer (hp) and model (laserjet 1200) The paper size (A4) is correctly specified in the printer settings. I also tried a driver named "HP LaserJet 1200 Postscript (recommended)" from the general database where I could select "A4 (Small)", which produced the same result. If I connect the printer directly by USB on my computer, there are no blank pages. When I do this, not _all_ keyboard input is blocked: * ctrl-shift-t and ctrl-shift-w work (open and close tabs) * I can copy text with ctrl-shift-c * alt-F4 works, to close the window Another weird behaviour: What I do, variant A: * I open one terminal * I type some special character (ä, ü, à, etc.) * I open a new terminal with ctrl-shift-n (sometimes it also happens when i switch to an existing terminal window) What I do, variant B: * I open one terminal (this works also with thunderbird) * I open a new terminal with ctrl-shift-n * Before the new terminal is ready, i type anything. What i get: * Both windows are basically keyboard blocked. * But not really, I give some examples: - close all terminals (works the same with thunderbird) - open new terminal (I call it window1) - ctrl-shift-n and without delay n (or any other letter). window2 appears. - input (window2): hello. no reaction. - alt-tab (works fine, focus changes to window1.) - input: gugus (and here, at the first key stroke, the n appears in window2, along with the first g in window1!) - alt-tab (focus on window2 again, nothing else happens.) - alt-tab (focus on window1, nothing else) - input: x (xugus appears, making sxugus). It's not always exactly the same, but there seems to be something wrong with the assigning of input to a certain window if one does not wait for the window to completely build before one types. With Thunderbird, it's much worse because the same thing happens and there, the windows take more time to load. I don't know it that's the same bug as the one above, but it seems to me. Thanks to anyone who tries to find a solution to this! [Bug 227733] Re: Mirror list is incomplete
Actually, there is a such script in the source package (gen_lists) but it's not shipped with the deb package because it's ugly. I had problems with your wiki page at the time it was written -- some URLs were not reachable, some pointed to packages directory, some to images directory, and some to other weird places. [Bug 225483] Re: RFE: keep the three latest versions of a package
Counter question: how often did this feature really save your ass? One time? Zero times? [Bug 225485] Re: ubuntu remapping does not work
First: the backends list is optional. If it's empty then the originally requested mirror is used to download from. Second: if your current mirrors are not listed in the mirrors list (here: file ubuntu_mirrors) then the requests won't be mapped to this configuration, thus original sources will be used for download and files are stored at different locations. Please check that your mirrors are really listed there. If yes, then there is a real bug. If no, then the mirrors list needs to be reviewed. I don't have time to track https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors and the entries there are not really consistent. [Bug 188249] [NEW] Radeon xserver shows corrupt display on X startup (IGP330/340/350 chipset)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I installed hardy on my IGP330/340/350 laptop (an HP NC4000) from the development branch at the start of January and the display worked fine, including the whizzy KDE4 effects. I dist-upgraded last night and kdm started with a completely corrupt screen. The only thing that looked normal was the pointer, the rest was just random junk. It appeared that kdm was running fine, but no keys were working either. The only solution I had at the console was to hit the power button or sysrq to reboot. I was able to work around this problem by setting "NoAccel" to "on" in my xorg.conf, and the display has come up fine. I haven't changed any system-level display settings since installation and had rebooted the system plenty of times before I attempted this upgrade, so I assume it was some change made to the xserver-xorg-video-ati package between the start and end of January. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: igp radeon video -- Radeon xserver shows corrupt display on X startup (IGP330/340/350 chipset) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 66104] Why is this bug only "medium" importance??
I don't understand why this bug is labelled only medium importance. It should be critical or important, at least. The workarounds don't really solve the problem. This bug seriously threatens to scare off users who need multiple input methods - they may not be the majority, but they are an important segment of the linux population. On windows, input methods always work flawlessly for me. If I look at the "critical" bugs, there are things like "synaptics touch pad(laptop) clicks too easily", and if I look at the "high" importance section, there are shocking problems like "Cannot create a user "håkan"". Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to offend anyone. But I seriously believe that the standard, pre-installed input method changer in Ubuntu absolutely needs to work properly if Ubuntu wants to be what it wants to be. I'm looking forward to downloading the solution to this problem, and thank you to anyone who helps to solve it! Christoph P.S. Oh sorry, I misread "caching for certain domains" as "caching of certain domains"... Actually, that's a good idea. I think we should use regular expressions, there you can set a filter to the beginning of the string (i.e. the Domain name you wanted), or some string that people put into their local rebuilds' versions, or a common part of the name of some local project, whatever. Maybe some directive like: # Data is not stored on the disk if the download URL is matched successfully against one of these regular # expressions. # # DontCache: localversionsuffix.*\.deb 192.168.3 ^10\.0\.0\.1 # # Advanced usage: # The "file:listfile.txt" syntax is supported to get the strings from an external file. # If the config value contains two parts (semicolon separated) then the left is applied to incomming request # URLs, the right part to outgoing download URLs. What do you recommend to reproduce it, using a lucid/i386 chroot for a while? -- apt-cacher-ng assert failure: *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/apt-cacher-ng: malloc(): corrupted unsorted chunks 2: 0x09e7a4e0 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 334761] Re: update-manager -d fails when using apt-cacher-ng
Here is the pattern currently used in Debian: Index|Packages\.bz2|Packages\.gz|Packages|Release|Release\.gpg|Sources\.bz2|Sources\.gz|Sources|release|index\.db-.*\.gz|Contents-[^/]*\.gz|pkglist[^/]*\.bz2|rclist[^/]*\.bz2 |/meta-release[^/]*|Translation[^/]*\.bz2)$ I think it should cover all your meta-release* files. Please suggest a correction of that if this is not the case. -- update-manager -d fails when using apt-cacher-ng https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

PS: for the non-downloadable files, please create a Debian BTS report ;-) and provide a repro as detailed as possible. -- update-manager -d fails when using apt-cacher-ng https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

#8 was the wrong one, this one matches non-volatile files: .*(.deb|.rpm|.dsc|.tar.(gz|bz2|lzma|xz)(.gpg)?|.diff.(gz|bz2|lzma|xz)|.jigdo|.template|changelog|copyright|.udeb|.diff/.*.gz|vmlinuz|initrd.(gz|bz2|lzma|xz)|ReleaseAnnouncement)$ -- update-manager -d fails when using apt-cacher-ng https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
