[Bug 496616] Re: Mediaplayer crushed with "pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated"

2010-04-26 Thread Bernat
VLC plays fine using pulse, Totem fails for some videos only. I've found
out all videos failing have AC3 audio, most at 448kbs and some at
384kbs. Maybe related to AC3 decoding with gstreamer. The extra packages
are installed. My hardware is a HP Mini 210-1010ES running an up-to-date
Ubuntu 10.04.

Matt Zimmerman gives a good hint about this issue on bug 532586 comments

[Bug 571707] Re: fsck progress stalls at boot, plymouthd/mountall eats CPU

2010-05-09 Thread Bernat
I think this tool is more oriented towards developers and beta-testers,
users feeling uneasy here might post a question or go to the forums
instead. I guess the problem is that this bug is going to hit almost
everyone sooner or later, and it can be troublesome for the naive user.
It happened to me in a meeting at work and it's a bit painful even for
the non-naive (this things always happen like this.) It's a pity this
bug wasn't caught before release, but everyone's being working hard to
fix it as soon as it was detected. Certainly something to include in the
test-run for future releases.

2010-04-22 Thread Bernat
I'm having this problem playing videos with Totem on a HP Mini

since VLC plays fine.

[Bug 516329] Re: TouchPad buttons don't work on HP Mini 210 (1030NR)

2010-04-24 Thread Bernat
"Out of the box, the actual "buttons" (which are physically part of the
pad area) don't work. To effectuate a click, one has to tap on the pad.
Right click is very hard, as one has to tap on the lower right corner of
the pad; it usually takes me a few tries. Two-fingered scrolling does
not work, but edge scrolling does."

Confirmed. At first it seems like they don't, you have to try at the
very edge.

For Synaptics multitouch issues see bug 308191, bug 554980, bug 546697
and bug 413050.

[Bug 909488] Re: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide

2012-04-04 Thread Bernat
I don't see what's different in nautilus-dropbox compared to other
packages. It seems like upstream wants to open a potential security hole
in our Ubuntu systems. I think people should already know Ubuntu
packages are supported by the Ubuntu community, not by upstream, so
where's the confussion. I've chosen to trust the Ubuntu community, not
Dropbox, I wouldn't expect Ubuntu packages to be updated by upstream
authors. What's different here?

[Bug 909488] Re: nautilus-dropbox forbids dropbox's non-free binaries to replace themselves by properly installing dropbox system-wide

2012-04-05 Thread Bernat
Ok, I see your point now, thanks. I know the non-free binaries are
already a security problem, but I think it's even riskier having non-
free software that installs binaries in our home and upgrades itself
without notice. I would expect packagers to make it the least insecure
possible, lessenning the dangers, that's what I'd like to expect from a
distro that provides non-free software.

Should I know that multiverse is as dangerous as using third party
repositories?

[Bug 920338] [NEW] Bluetooth applet doesn't seem to connect audio devices succesfully

2012-01-23 Thread Bernat
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to connect to a A2DP device, it's already paired to this
computer. Doing it from the applet seems like working and I can even
hear a little pop through the speakers but the output sink doesn't
appear in Pulseaudio so I can't select it. If I connect the device from
the Bluetooth management window the audio sink appears and it works.

This is where I push the "I already have an account button". It

[Bug 779492] [NEW] Resume fails after hibernation

2011-05-08 Thread Bernat
Public bug reported:

The system never resumes after hibernation since Ubuntu 10.10, it worked
in 10.04.

When resuming I can see the Ubuntu trademark and logo plus the moving
dots and the message "Resuming from /dev/disk/by-
uuid/3c1ab005-6df3-4f42-acf2-4b247ee31faa", but it freezes after a few
seconds. Keyboard doesn't respond unless I press ctrl-alt-supr that
makes the system boot immediately.

I've checked hibernating from the terminal for this bug with the same results:
sudo service gdm stop
sudo pm-hibernate

The system is a netbook HP Mini 210-1010es, Ubuntu 11.04 upgraded since
10.04.

[Bug 601559] [NEW] Audio fails without sox (need dependency)

Imagination should depend on sox for audio playback. A dependency on

[Bug 48513] Re: libsexy2 should depend on libenchant1c2a

2006-06-17 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
A case where this is clearly obvious is xchat-gnome.

There is no dependency whatsoever on libenchant, not even as a suggested
one. Yet xchat-gnome uses libenchant for spellchecking.

Result: going to Edit>Preferences>Spell Checking, the list languages for
which spellchecking is available is empty.

In order to be able to perform spell-checking, the user has to know that
xchat-gnome uses libenchant, which has to be installed manually at the
moment. IMHO this should be handled automatically.

[Bug 64909] Re: Duplicate UUIDs after Edgy update

2006-10-18 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Now that the fix has been released, the update process should not create
duplicate UUIDs, but how can people already affected by this bug get rid
of the duplicate UUIDs?

Is there a way to generate new UUIDs for each affected partition or
should we remove all UUIDs from menu.lst and fstab and use e.g. /dev/hd*
instead?

[Bug 64909] Re: Duplicate UUIDs after Edgy update

2006-10-18 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
> Just edit /etc/fstab - the original device names are in the comment
above the UUID

I had done this from the start (see the original post), otherwise I
could have not booted up. Not only I had to edit /etc/fstab but also
/boot/grub/menu.lst, otherwise the wrong kernel would be loaded.

So from what I understand, once the UUID generation goes wrong, there is
no way to "regenerate" proper UUIDs and the only option is to forget the
UUIDs altogether and use /dev/hdXY. Is that right?

[Bug 59111] Re: Eternal loading of pages when recovering session

2006-10-19 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I have experienced this several times. And I would also add that the CPU
load goes to 100% during this "loading"

What I do is to press the "Stop" button for every single tab so it stops
loading, and then load each tab I'm interested in "manually" by pressing
the "Go" button.

[Bug 66962] Crash recovery loads twice the browser instances

2006-10-19 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

When Epiphany crashes just before leaving your session, the crash
recovery procedure will, on the next session, load twice the number of
browser instances that had crashed in the first place.

That is, for example, if two browser instances crashed during logout,
two additional duplicate instances will be loaded on the next session,
making the total number of browser instances four. This is especially
annoying when recovering several windows with several tabs open, since
it takes a considerable amount of time.

This behaviour, however, does not seem to happen when epiphany crashes
in the middle of a session and then the recovery is initiated.

> What version of Ubuntu do you use?
* I'm using Edgy.

> How do you make it crash "just before leaving your session"? What do you call
> "just before"? 1 second? 10 seconds? 1min?
* I do not make it crash deliberately. I notice that epihany has crashed in
either of the two following ways:
a) when starting a new session and the desktop has been loaded, the crash
recovery dialog appears, asking me if I want to recover the previous browser
windows. So I assume that epiphany crashed on the previous session (I might be
wrong here).
b) when the session is ending (i.e. after having presed the Quit>Shutdown
button all windows closing, etc.), I see a dialog : "the application epiphany
has crashed unexpectedly", which appears very briefly just before showing the
logout usplash.

This does not happen always, but I've noticed that it happens more
frequently when I've got many application windows open in several
workspaces before logging out.

[Bug 48097] Re: gedit does not get focus when opening more than one document

2006-07-08 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Steven,

You are right, the bug does not seem to occur anymore. I don't know
which updates fixed the issue, but it must have been quite recent, since
I clearly remember seeing the behaviour described on my original post at
least one or two weeks ago.

Since I don't know what fixed it and, as I said, something like that
also happened during Dapper development (i.e. focus issues started
appearing, were fixed at some point and appeared again later), I'll keep
an eye on this. But hopefully this bug won't have to be reopen.

Thanks for noticing this.

[Bug 52668] X crashes while showing the "Downloading changes..." dialog of the linux-image-2.6.15-26-k7

2006-07-11 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

That's the first time I've observed something like this.

Before I install any software updates, I always try to read the
changelog to see what the update is about.

On today's (11.07.2006) updates, I started doing this for some packages.
However, when clicking on the linux-image-2.6.15-26-k7 package and
seeing the usual "Downloading changes", X crashed and only after a while
I got back to the gdm login screen.

I've tried this several times (with reboot included) and it is always
reproduceable. None of the other updates seem to present this behaviour,
but every time I click on the linux-image-2.6.15-26-k7 package, X
reproduceably crashes.

I don't know what could be causing this, but a guess is that something
wrong is happening when downloading the list of changes for this
package.

I cannot reproduce the bug right now because I ended up installing the
updates.

Anyway, what has the nvidia driver got to do with this?

[Bug 58721] Re: Matrox MGA200 doesn't work after upgrade from Dapper to Edgy

2006-09-08 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can confirm this bug, which also appears in my system.

My graphics card is an MGA G200 AGP, and the behaviour I get is that
when GDM starts, my monitor goes into power-saving mode complaining that
its maximum frequency has been reached. I double-checked the frequency
ranges in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and they seem to be ok. In fact, they did
not change from Dapper.

At the moment I am also using the VESA driver, with which I can only get
a resolution of 800x600.

I can confirm that after doing what Alex Muntada suggested in his

Also, could the original reporter change the bug title to something more
descriptive?

"Error during Dapper-->Edgy update" could mean almost anything, so I
guess something mentioning python 2.3 or 2.4 might be more appropriate.

[Bug 60905] [acx111] default firmware not working for acx d-link dwl-g650+

2006-09-17 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

This bug is simply https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-
source-2.6.15/+bug/30766 appearing again in linux-source-2.6.17.

Quoting http://acx100.sourceforge.net/wiki/Firmware:

For ACX111 there are only 2 really supported firmwares, and people have had
best results with the first one:

acx111 firmware 1.2.1.34 mirror
acx111 firmware 1.2.0.30 mirror

However, after testing the knot3 cd on my laptop and noticing that wifi
wasn't working, I saw that again the 2.3.1.31 firmware is loaded per
default. And as stated before, the 0.3.2.1 acx driver shipped by ubuntu
does *not* work with the 2.3.1.31 firmware.

The output of 'dmesg | grep acx' states it:

[17179711.988000] acx: firmware 'Rev 2.3.1.31' does not work well with this
driver
[17179711.988000] acx: form factor 0x01 ((mini-)PCI / CardBus), radio type 0x16
(Radia), EEPROM version 0x05, uploaded firmware 'Rev 2.3.1.31' (0x03010101)
[17179711.988000] acx v0.3.21: net device wlan0, driver compiled against
wireless extensions 20 and Linux 2.6.17-7-generic

So the default firmware for the acx111 driver should be firmware
1.2.1.34 instead of 2.3.1.31

Could anyone please confirm?

[Bug 61493] Wrong notification area displayed on startup

2006-09-20 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

After booting, g-p-m displays a wrong notification area icon, which does
not provide any information about the battery status (see atached
screenshots). This happens both when booting with AC and without.

This icon remains unchanged throughout the session, and the only way to
get the proper status icon to show up is to either plug or unplug the AC
adapter, or when the battery status goes from charging to fully charged.

[Bug 61720] vesa driver extremely slow after upgrade from xorg 7.0.0 to 7.1.1

2006-09-21 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

I've been using the vesa driver on my laptop without problems since
Breezy, the reason being that I cannot get the savage driver to work
properly with it.

However, after upgrading from Dapper to Edgy (i.e. from xorg 7.0.0 to
xorg 7.1.1) the vesa driver has become unbearably slow.

Dragging windows causes a constant and very noticeably repaint of the
window, but the worst part is when using scroll bars, on which the
constant repaint makes it nearly impossible to browse internet pages.

See this comment on the xorg mailing list, which also refers to this
issue:
