Happened to me too with the amd64 alternative install cd (reported bug
is with i386). Hopefully all will be fine with sudo apt-get autoremove

[Bug 349832] [NEW] VBox Guest Additions won't install completely

2009-03-27 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I try to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions on a VM running the
9.04 Beta, I get a warning that says

Warning: unknown version of the X Window System installed. Not
installing X Window System drivers.

Moreover, when I restart, it goes into low-graphics mode with the message
"Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected

However, after going into low-graphics mode, it asks if I want to try
starting the X server again, and when I say yes, it works, but the
additions (eg, support for actually filling the screen and mouse
integration) still don't work.

[Bug 501090] [NEW] GUI application in Eclipse crashes X

2009-12-28 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Attempting to run a GUI-based Java application in Eclipse causes the X

the same result. Rebooting the system again and running the application

[Bug 1702151] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_fundamentally_a() from g_object_ref() from st_theme_get_custom_stylesheets()

2019-05-20 Thread Ben Klein
I'm on 19.04 and I seem to be able to reproduce this at least once a day
while I leave my screen locked overnight.

Am willing to provide logs and core dumps if possible.

Just let me know how/what you need to capture.

Each morning when I log back in, the screen will sit and freeze for a
minute or so while gnome shell crashes and restarts, but at least it
keeps my windows and workspaces open / in place. A bit after that is
when apport gives me the dialog.

[Bug 1898373] [NEW] Nvidia Driver Server Packages should suggest GUI components instead of recommend

2020-10-03 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Right now installing `nvidia-driver-4(4|5)0-server` (ubuntu/multiverse)
will install the entire gnome-shell stack which pulls in a lot of IMHO
unrelated and unwanted software including printer services, input
drivers, pulseaudio, and more graphical things normally not desired to
be on a headless server.

While install with `--no-install-recommends` works as expected, it
doesn't include decode/encode libs and extra other libraries normally
expected from a full install.

I think it would be appropriate to move `nvidia-settings`, `nvidia-
prime`, and other recommended packages depending on graphical components
to the suggested section.

Ubuntu 20.04.1

[Bug 1254329] [NEW] Iagno Computer player takes a long time to move later in the game

2013-11-23 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

In Iagno, the Level 1 computer player sometimes takes a long time to move late
in the game. For example, in my current game, the computer player (as white)
was moving quickly until the board looked like this:
xxoboxxx
xxobbxxx
xxoboboo
oxoboboo
oobo
xoox
bbbx
(where x indicates an empty space, o indicates a white piece, and b indicates a
black piece).
At this point, the computer took several minutes to make a move (on f7). Is
this normal?

[Bug 682535] [NEW] openoffice impress formula looks bad in presentation

2010-11-28 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When I go to view my presentation in OpenOffice Impress (eg, Presentation), the
last formula on this slide looks bad. The last formula is supposed to read (in
markup notation)
%sigma_C = sqrt{left( left({partial C} over {partial d} %sigma_d right)^2 +
left({partial C} over {partial L} %sigma_L right)^2 right)} = 0.043321915
"m"/"s"^2
with font sizes set at: Base size:32pt, all others default
As you can see, it looks fine in the Presenter tools but absolutely horrible in
the actual presentation. It also looks perfectly normal when working on the
presentation.

[Bug 934239] Re: Mumble install does not register mumble:// URL handler with the system/firefox

2015-03-15 Thread Ben Klein
There is indeed a proper fix for this issue that is declared on the
Mumble Wiki on how to get mumble to open those kinds of links:
http://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Mumble_URL#URL_Handler_Installation

In short, it's simply two commands to create the association:

gconftool-2 -s -t string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mumble/command 'mumble
"%s"'
gconftool-2 -s -t bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mumble/enabled true

This shouldn't be very hard to implement at all.

[Bug 770520] [NEW] MacBook5-1 sometimes fails to suspend properly

2011-04-25 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

Occasionally, when I put my computer to sleep, close the lid, and put it
into my backpack to go to class, the following happens when I get there:
Although all external indicators show that it is sleeping, the computer

[Bug 597927] [NEW] upower does not recognize battery on MacBook5,1

2010-06-23 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upower

On some occasions when I boot my MacBook5,1 into Ubuntu 10.04, the power
icon shows that there is no battery; other times, it works properly.
When it doesn't work, executing "upower --dump" shows

(upower:4008): libupower-glib-WARNING **: Couldn't enumerate devices:
Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

When it works properly, the output is attached. I have also attached the
results of "dmesg" under each circumstance.

[Bug 575548] Re: ubuntuone overwrites a newer version of a file or creates a conflict version

2010-07-12 Thread Ben Klein
I had a very similar problem, except that I was using Eclipse rather
than emacs. Perhaps a solution might be as follows: Rather than download
the file from the server every time, compare the time stamps and
synchronize on the more recent file.

[Bug 614126] [NEW] gedit can't leave fullscreen when run from an xterm

2010-08-05 Thread Ben Klein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I tried to run gedit from an xterm (not a regular console). After
selecting View => Fullscreen, the toolbar disappeared, but the window
did not go to full screen. Moreover, the Leave Fullscreen button in the
top-right corner of the screen did nothing. I finally had to shut down
the system from a regular console because, of course, the xterm was
covered by the gedit window.
