[Bug 267922] Re: Banshee hangs up/crashes when pluggin in MTP-USB-Player
Ok, I've attached the console output. It doesn't seem very helpful though, as the only thing that comes up when I plug in the device is "PTP: Opening session". I did notice this strange, but repeatable behavior. Running "banshee --debug" with the device already plugged in got to the same "PTP: Opening session" and froze, like normal. If I Ctrl-C, and then repeat "banshee --debug", it doesn't freeze, actually recognizes the player and shows music on it. The debug output consequently shows one extra line: " Found DAP support (Banshee.Dap.Mtp.MtpSource) for device Sansa Fuze 4GB". I didn't try to do anything else with the device except eject it, and closing and re-launching banshee produced the same behavior (crash once, then function). [Bug 337990] gphoto capture-image not working in ubuntu? (intrepid)
Hey all, I've been developing on my lenny machine for my Canon S5 IS camera. Things have been working well (except for the awkward udev stuff). I wanted to run my application on my eeepc laptop (ubuntu intrepid) when I got this error when I try to do an image capture, set-config capture=on works fine: $ gphoto2 --set-config capture=on value on, t 1 No event yet, we'll try later. $ gphoto2 --capture-image *** Error *** Canon Capture failed: 2019 ERROR: Could not capture. *** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') *** So I thought it was a buggy gphoto ubuntu package (reported as bug #337990), and compiled gphoto and libghoto 2.4.4 from source. It reported errors about being unable to access /dev/hda3 and to check cryptoopts=source= something. It doesn't really matter, as the problem was that 2.6.27 recognises my IDE drive as /dev/sda instead of /dev/hda as is the case with 2.6.24 in Hardy. Booting the old kernel, changing /dev/hda3 to /dev/sda3 in /etc/crypttab and rebuilding the initrd image for 2.6.27-5 fixed the issue for me, but I think a lot of inexperienced users using encrypted root FS won't be able to easily fix it and the upgrade should somehow take care of problems like this one. regards, B. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- system with crypto root partition not bootable after intrepid upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279650 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 259156] Re: gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade
The machine has locked up solid twice in the last week. ssh connections freeze and timeout, and the console keyboard does not respond (no VT switching or any other feedback from keyboard input). The logs show nothing, no errors. I checked the disk with smart, and it reports no errors. So I went back to the hardy up to date generic kernel (was running the rt kernel before) I removed the acpi=off noapm options from the kernel startup. X still does not start via GDM, and I was running GDM at the time of both failures. I'll turn off GDM for a few days to see if the freeze still happens. just keeping you posted. [Bug 259156] [NEW] gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I've just upgraded my gutsy machine to hardy. The installation went well, not errors or issues. After the first reboot the machine does not start gdm anymore (rather the X server starts and crashes) Eventually I get this error in the console: The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds. It is likely that something bad is going on. Waiting for 2 minutes before trying again on display :0 The machine is a duron 800 kt133 with an nvidia fx5200 apg card. Running an up-to-date hardy. I'm running the following kernel: Linux aporia 2.6.24-19-rt #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Sat Jul 12 02:53:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux with noapm and acpi=off kernel options This is likely not a HW problem, as the breezy liveCD starts X fine, and using nv or nvidia I can start x with startx (as root) no problem. I've experimented with vesa, nv and nvidia drivers to figure out the problem. Here are the results: Files are attached after this message and references by filename here. Here are the results for the xorg.conf file (where only the driver field is changed) nv: gdm switches the VT, shows busy mouse pointer, then quits and restarts, eventually showing above message. startx works as expected (as root) vesa: gdm goes into suspend rather than showing the busy mouse, shows console between quits and restarts. Eventually shows the above message. startx behaves the same as gdm, does not quit and restart, just puts monitor in suspend. nvidia: gdm behaves the same as when using nv startx works as expected (as root) The following is included for comparison using the xorg.conf.failsafe: Vesa failsafe: gdm behaves the same as vesa with the xorg.conf startx behaves same as gdm, stays in suspend. Not error message, does not flash back to console. The Xorg.0.log files are also included (cleared for each test). The only difference between the startx and gdm method appears to be the VT being used. Could all this come down to a VT problem? How to confirm? The xorg files and xorg logs for each test case attached: ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259156 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 259156] Re: gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade
Thanks Chris, I think I've found the problem. Looks like GDM is trying to run X with the nvidia driver and failing: (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found) This is when using the xorg failsafe configuration. So I tried using my nvidia xorg. For each X guit/restart I see these messages in /var/log/messages: Aug 19 09:00:38 aporia kernel: [167694.560423] agpgart: Found an AGP 2.0 compliant device at :00:00.0. Aug 19 09:00:38 aporia kernel: [167694.560458] agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at :00:00.0 into 2x mode Aug 19 09:00:38 aporia kernel: [167694.560508] agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at :01:00.0 into 2x mode I called the gdm and xorg logs .nvidia to differentiate them from the failsafe tests. The pause after running /etc/init.d/gdm stop is exceptionally long, approximately 15 seconds. To recap: Seems when I run gdm with an xorg using the vesa or nv driver, GDM tries to use nvidia anyhow and throws an error. Why startx uses the driver specified in xorg.conf and gdm seems to always try and load the nvidia driver is beyond me. Even if I use the the nvidia driver in the xorg, GDM does not throw an error (just complains about fonts), but does not start GDM either. Seems to me a reasonable next step is to force GDM to use nv and not load nvidia-glx and see if that works. I added the nvidia driver using the "restricted drivers" GUI in startx (as root). How can I remove the nvidia driver (withoutx) to see if I can get nv to work with GDM? Thanks for your efforts. Re: [Bug 259156] Re: gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade
Thanks Chris, Here are the logs from /etc/init.d/gdm start (after stop) using the reconfigured xorg file. I've run this machine for most of its life with ACPI disabled, as it seems to cause crashes with nvidia drivers. If the ACPI was the problem, then startx should not work either. Maybe something stands out in these logs for you, as I'm stumped. Thanks, B. [Bug 337990] Re: [gphoto-devel] gphoto capture-image not working in ubuntu? (intrepid)
Hello Marcus, Seems unlikely that it would be a memory problem. I'm running the camera without a capture card at all, and powered off in between tests (when reattaching to various computers). The good news is that 2.4.4.2 works on ubuntu! I just compiled and recompiled gphoto2, and it now works fine. Hard to say why it was not working before, but it is certainly working in 2.4.4.2 on ubuntu. I still can't shake the thinking that it could be some ubuntu/intrepid shared library that is not compatible?? Thanks for your help. B. [Bug 46378] Re: Bad mapping for Right-Click on PowerPC
I'm running an up to date intrepid on a powerbook5,2. I was running this machine with hardy just fine. F11 and F12 mapped to middle and right buttons. After upgrading to intrepid those F keys no longer work. /etc/sysctl.d/10-arch-specific.conf contains: # PowerPC: # Emulate the middle mouse button with F11 and the right with F12. dev.mac_hid.mouse_button_emulation = 1 dev.mac_hid.mouse_button2_keycode = 87 dev.mac_hid.mouse_button3_keycode = 88 In XEV, the F11 and F12 keys (with or without Fn being pressed) return: KeyPress event, serial 30, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0x67, subw 0x0, time 1383298, (134,56), root:(685,404), state 0x0, keycode 95 (keysym 0xffc8, F11), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0x67, subw 0x0, time 1383347, (134,56), root:(685,404), state 0x0, keycode 95 (keysym 0xffc8, F11), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0x67, subw 0x0, time 1392454, (134,56), root:(685,404), state 0x0, keycode 96 (keysym 0xffc9, F12), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x141, root 0x67, subw 0x0, time 1392504, (134,56), root:(685,404), state 0x0, keycode 96 (keysym 0xffc9, F12), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False I tried using these keycodes (95 + 96) in 10-arch-specific.conf, but still those keys don't map to button clicks. Using sysctl directly also appears to make no difference: sudo sysctl dev.mac_hid.mouse_button2_keycode=95 sudo sysctl dev.mac_hid.mouse_button3_keycode=96 My only guess is that the keycodes themselves are messed up. Or sysctl is causing issues. The XFCE config present when installing xubuntu-desktop on ubuntu is utterly useless without, at least, the right click mapping. "Logitech USB Receiver" is my wireless mouse. It just means I was switched away (on the KVM) from this machine when X started. I also tried it without switching away, the same thing happens. I have intrepid on my powerbook now also, but it was working fine with GDM. I think its likely a configuration issue somehow. This machine has not had a fresh install in about 7 years. No, it was not an issue for me when I submitted, as the bug also includes the underlaying reason for the bug and my resolution. Re: [Bug 259156] Re: gdm fails to start after hardy upgrade
I realized that once GDM is started that I can log into the machine via XDMCP. Things seem to work the same as when using startx. The missing menu and crashing applets made me wonder so I ran: dpkg-reconfigure `dpkg -l "*gnome*" | grep ^ii | cut -d " " -f 3` to reconfigure all packages with gnome in them. dpkg-reconfigure gnome-desktop-environment did not reconfigure the sub packages. Even after doing so the GDM remote login does not change, many applet crashes and still no menu. See attached screenshot where the effected machine is in the Xnest. All my custom application icons are missing from the panel, all menu ubuntu menu buttons are also missing. I mention these details in case they are a hint to what is going on. Perhaps these gnome problems are another bug, but something is certainly messed after the upgrade. Is there a bug channel specifically for upgrading issues? I suppose just the forums. Thanks, b. I think I am having this bug, but mine seems like it is more serious. [Bug 94672] Re: OpenOffice.org 2.2 does not show impress graphics properly on "slideshow"
I can confirm that now with Ubuntu 7.10 (OO 2.3) gradients without transparency do render correctly, but those with transparency seem not to render at all. Also objects using images as texture that have transparency do not render either. By "do not render" I of course mean in the slide-show display. Closer... Thanks... Hmmm, does not work for me, gradients without transparency still don't render properly. If you look at my original test file: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/7715635/test.odp you'll see that the purple and yellow box has no transparency and still does not render correctly. SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-lxl4Ne/ssh The socket is open by gnome-keyring-daemon. On first SSH connection, the popup asks for the private key password, and caches it for subsequent SSH connections. After hibernation, however, SSH logins using cached passwords do not work anymore, SSH asks for the key password. Tunneled agent connections also do not work, which is a bigger problem. SSH_AUTH_SOCK is still set to the same socket, and gnome-keyring-daemon (same PID as before hibernation) still has the socket open, so it should work. I tried stracing the gnome-keyring-daemon process, but it does not see a connection to the auth socket, so this bug might be in ssh, not gnome- keyring. [Bug 192207] [NEW] unounted ata drive skeeps spinning up and down constantly after recent Feb updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image Hello, I'm running an up to date (as of today) gutsy with linux- image-2.6.22-14-generic 2.6.22-14.52 The last two updates, I believe all in Feb, have resulted in a new behaviour in my system. I have two ATA drives in this desktop machine, one 20GB that used to be root, and one 200GB that has replaced it. I've moved root onto the new drive and have left the old drive in the machine as a backup system in case the new drive goes. So the drive is physically in the machine and powered, but is not in fstab and is never mounted. It used to spin up on reboot and then eventually go to sleep and turn off. Now with these updates after it has been off for 1min, it spins back up again. So its constantly spinning up and down, whereas before it would spin up once, spin down and stay spun down. I can test the behaviour by running this command to spin down the drive: sudo hdparm -y /dev/hdb One minute after running this command the drive spins back up, I can't find anything in the logs that explain any attempt to automount or anything else that would spin up the drive. Should I just remove the power from the drive to save its life? The 20GB drive is also damn loud and I would really like it to shut up. I'm just doing this for now to save the drive: while(true) do sudo hdparm -y /dev/hdb; sleep 60; done I'm issuing this as a bug, rather than in the forums, because its new behaviour in the recent updates, and I can't see it as being intentional. Thanks, .b. ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unounted ata drive skeeps spinning up and down constantly after recent Feb updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192207 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 192207] [NEW] unounted ata drive skeeps spinning up and down constantly after recent Feb updates
This bug can be closed. The reason for the seemingly random spin ups was I still had a swap partition active on that drive! All solved now. b wrote: > Public bug reported: > > Binary package hint: linux-image > > Hello, > > I'm running an up to date (as of today) gutsy with linux- > image-2.6.22-14-generic 2.6.22-14.52 > > The last two updates, I believe all in Feb, have resulted in a new > behaviour in my system. > > I have two ATA drives in this desktop machine, one 20GB that used to be > root, and one 200GB that has replaced it. [Bug 182213] firefox is unable to download files from some URLs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox The following URL does not download in firefox (gutsy updated today). http://www.ekran.org/ben/video/Memory-Association-Machine-PDCON07.ogg wget and epiphany have no trouble with the file, but firefox just sits there trying to download it (spinning icon) no information in "Downloads" and the previous page stays on screen. I've left it for 30 minutes, but will leave it overnight to see if it timesout. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? I've cleared by browser cache and that seems to have no effect. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- firefox is unable to download files from some URLs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182213 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 136529] Re: Can't log in after upgrading
Oddly enough I was getting this error all morning. Digging deeply into the problem gnome-session was bailing each time. gnome-session would work when I log in initially after reboot, but any subsequent logins with my user did not work (the same freeze we're seeing above.) Good news is now it works, I only did two things: 1. I change the keyboard layout (I was getting tired of the message about X and Gnome keyboards being different and having to choose one) 2. I killed bonobo manually once after loging in. After some digging I don't see how "2" would have done it, since I've not rebooted and I can still login as many times as I want, without doing any manual kills. So for all those still having this trouble try changing your keyboard settings. I'm using "nv" with an nvidia card, no compiz, no xgl. Looks like my login problem was not related to the gnome-keyring bug. good luck all. -- Can't log in after upgrading https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 175678] jabref does not render when compiz is enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: jabref When compiz "desktop effects" are enabled jabref does not render its main screen. Popup messages render fine, but the main jabref window remains grey.
