[Bug 688562] [NEW] Support of DOCX and PPTX file formats at BrOffice 3.2.1

2010-12-10 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I contacted the support team of the OpenOffice and they told me that the
support of the Microsoft Office 2007 formats were being done by the
Ubuntu team... Therefore, I'm here to send this bug that I tried to send
for them...

Problem: I can't save a file at DOCX or PPTX and keeping the layout I
gave to it... Generally, the highlight of a phrase or word that I've put
vanishes (this happens at DOCX files)... I can't save the arrows (they
show glitches too if I initiate the Presentation Mode and pass through
them fastly - Pressing Enter when the animation of the arrows are still
running) that I put inside the PPTX files... Together with that, the
OpenOffice crashes when I open a large PPTX files (When this file has a
lot of Slides or has a lot of animations, images and etc)...

What I want to do: Save at PPTX or DOCX without losing any data or
layout (Again, I contacted the OpenOffice team and they told me this is
a (K)Ubuntu problem - They say the OpenOffice don't have native support
to DOCX or PPTX files)...

PS: You can test this errors at the files attached (The first file shows
the glitches of the PPTX Presentation Mode and the Second shows the
crash of the OpenOffice Impress with a PPTX large file)... The saving
problem you can check with the first file too and testing the highlight
function of OO when saving to DOCX format...

PS²: My system is a Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) ; BrOffice 3.2.1 ;
OOO320m19;

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

[Bug 688576] [NEW] Kubuntu - Trash is not Drive Specific

2010-12-10 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Hello,

What I want to Do: I know KDE default trash location is
/home/USER/.local/Trash but I really want to set it to another path like
/media/Dados/.Trash-1000 (default Trash path of GNOME/Nautilus on my
other partition) or, if possible, set it to create a path on the root of
the partition where the deleted files were to store these files as trash
(like the Nautilus - Gnome do)...

Objective: At this way I will be able to delete files faster than I do
with Dolphin File Manager (I know I can use the Shift + Del to
permanently delete files, but I really don't want them to be permanently
deleted)...

PS: Actually I delete files only with Nautilus (Gnome) because it gives
me that function (Dolphin can see these deleted files under the trash:/
folder too) by saving my deleted files in the path
/media/Dados/.Trash-1000 where I can restore my files in my Windows 7 OS
too (this partition is NTFS Filesystem)

PS²: I really liked the KDE, but I need to say that the way it manages
the trash is terrible compared to the GNOME in terms of speed of the
deletion... Is this caused by the movement of the files between
partitions (My data partition (/media/Dados) to Linux partition
(/home/USER/.local/Trash))?

System Info: Kubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) installed via package "kubuntu-
desktop" ; Linux Kernel *.23-generic-pak ; KDE 4.5.1 ;

Thanks for your Attention,

André M.

[Bug 688576] Re: Kubuntu - Trash is not Drive Specific

2012-08-25 Thread André Madureira
I recently found out what is causing the problem (so, we can now use a
workaround until the fix be available)...

The problem happens in NTFS-3G program (when mount NTFS filesystem)...
It seems that when Nautilus or Dolphin try to mount a partition (as the
user clicks in the partition icon), HAL calls MOUNT.NTFS (that is linked
to NTFS-3G) with the options
RW,UID=USERNUMBER,GID=USERNUMBERGROUP,FMASK=177,DMASK=077...

So I verified every options listed to exactly identify which one is
causing of the problem...

It seams that when a partition is mounted by NTFS-3G without the options
UID=,GID=,UMASK=077 (or FMASK=177,DMASK=077), the system cannot create the path
.TRASH-UID as well as the files inside it (the trashed files)...
For me this don't make sense, because if I use the option UMASK=000 (that is
more permissive than UMASK=077), the trash folder is not created (this don't
make sense)...

Therefore, I think this problem is a BUG and shall be solved as soon as
possible, since it limitates the user preferences related to UMASK...

PS: The UID and GID options are exclusive necessary to the correct
opening of the files inside the folder... Without this option, the trash
folder is created, but the user cannot access the files inside the
mounted point (mounted partition, etc)... What do cause the trash
problem is the UMASK option (or FMASK together with DMASK)...

This problem may be associated with other filesystems as well as NTFS-
3G, because it seams (I did not test the problem with other filesystems,
because I only work with EXT4 and NTFS filesystems) that the creation of
the trash folder is done by another program inside LINUX that works both
inside KDE and GNOME (so, it's an independent program that works with
Nautilus and Dolphin)... Therefore, the filesystems that have the
options UMASK,FMASK,DMASK may be affected by this bug...

I hope I could help,

André M.

[Bug 731976] Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-16 Thread André Madureira
Hello,

I've tested the command and the error above have shown in my screen:

(If you can't see the image above, see the command and text error
forward):

#andre@ANDRE-CPU:~$ smbclient -L conce-cpu -U conce
Enter conce's password:
session setup failed: NT STATUS LOGON FAILURE

PS: I did the command above with user "conce" and "CONCE" (the machine
user is all lower case: "conce") and both failed with the message above...

PS²: I did a ping command again at the PC and the message shown was (the
image is above together with the text):

#andre@ANDRE-CPU:~$ ping CONCE-CPU
ping: unknown host CONCE-CPU

PS³: I did a ping command in another PC too and it answered like this
(in the example I'm showing, I tested my PC to my PC ping, but when I do
the same test with any other PC except the problematic PC, it works):

andre@ANDRE-CPU:~$ ping ANDRE-CPU

[Bug 737192] [NEW] [Kubuntu and VLC] - Use of KIO SLAVES to open remote files (samba, nfs, etc)

2011-03-17 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

Hello,

PROBLEM:

I did a bug report about Kubuntu (KDE 4.5.1) inability on CIFS auto
mounting of SAMBA shares like Nautilus in GNOME does (for more info see
the report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-
kde4-meta/+bug/730984 )... I was advised by Jonathan Riddell , in this
bug report above, that VLC should support KIO SLAVES functionality that
enables remote file access in KDE environments, or let KDE know that the
program (in this case VLC) don't support KIO SLAVES and therefore KDE
should auto download the file to the PC to open it...

BEST SOLUTION:

Support KIO SLAVES... Or at least let KDE know it don't handle KIO
SLAVES to let it auto download the remote file to open it in the local
PC...

PS: I don't know if the solution above is the better (alternatively we
can make KDE auto mount remote paths with CIFS like Nautilus does in
GNOME too) one because it's not a VLC specific problem, it affects also
LIBREOFFICE and GNOME MPLAYER... So, if any of you think in a different
manner, please, let us know... All of us want LINUX become better and
this needs our commitment with it's development and, with that, make it
easier to the common user of PC's to handle it...

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

[Bug 730264] Re: Can't acess remote files (in another computer via Network) with LibreOffice 3.3.1

2011-03-17 Thread André Madureira
Hello,

This is happening because LIBREOFFICE DON'T SUPPORT KIO SLAVES
functionality of KDE... So I suggest KIO SLAVES to be in the WISHLIST of
LIBREOFFICE to make it support this function... It's very important to
common users that want to move to LINUX and don't know how to mount
manually a remote path with CIFS command...

Thanks for your help,

[Bug 737201] [NEW] [Gnome MPLAYER] - Use of KIO SLAVES to open remote files instead of CIFS

2011-03-17 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer

Hello,

PROBLEM:

I did a bug report about Kubuntu (KDE 4.5.1) inability on CIFS auto
mounting of SAMBA shares like Nautilus in GNOME does (for more info see
the report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kubuntu-
kde4-meta/+bug/730984 )... I was advised by Jonathan Riddell , in this
bug report above, that GNOME MPLAYER should support KIO SLAVES
functionality that enables remote file access in KDE environments, or
let KDE know that the program (in this case GNOME MPLAYER) don't support
KIO SLAVES and therefore KDE should auto download the file to the PC to
open it...

BEST SOLUTION:

Support KIO SLAVES... Or at least let KDE know it don't handle KIO
SLAVES to let it auto download the remote file to open it in the local
PC...

PS: I don't know if the solution above is the better (alternatively we
can make KDE auto mount remote paths with CIFS like Nautilus does in
GNOME too) one because it's not a GNOME MPLAYER specific problem, it
affects also LIBREOFFICE and VLC... So, if any of you think in a
different manner, please, let us know... All of us want LINUX become
better and this needs our commitment with it's development and, with
that, make it easier to the common user of PC's to handle it...

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I'm not referring to HTTP Protocol, but in fact SAMBA and NFS protocol

[Bug 737192] Re: [Kubuntu and VLC] - Use of KIO SLAVES to open remote files (located in Network) instead of needing CIFS to do it

2011-03-18 Thread André Madureira
Hello Rémi Denis-Courmont,

Additionally, in my last comment I forgot to mention that although VLC
can't support KIO SLAVES to access SAMBA, NFS shares, can't it alert KDE
4.5.1 (Being more specific, Kubuntu Distribution) about it's inability
of managing KIO SLAVES to make KDE auto download SAMBA,NFS shared files
to the local PC and open it?

PS: Above there's a quotation that Jonathan Riddell wrote about how
should applications support remote file systems (CIFS, KIO SLAVES when
accessing SAMBA, NFS remote files) in the bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730984...

"Either the application should support remote file systems (such as by
using kio slaves) or their .desktop file should report that they do not
support remote files in which case KDE will try and download the file
first. " (Jonathan Riddell)

[Bug 737192] Re: [Kubuntu and VLC] - Use of KIO SLAVES to open remote files (located in Network) instead of needing CIFS to do it

2011-03-19 Thread André Madureira
Hello Rémi Denis-Courmont,

I tested CIFS mounting and VLC playback (of a H264 video) through it and
I was not able to SEEK the video (this also happened in a MP3 file) and
VLC did not showed the right duration of the video nor the actual
position... How can I solve this?

Why don't VLC detect KIO SLAVES smb:// network access and auto mount the
remote path with CIFS? With this VLC would be more independent when
related with CIFS because it wouldn't need any 3rd party application
that can mount CIFS via command or GUI (in example: When I access a
remote path, it mounts it automatically like NAUTILUS does)...

Is there any CIFS application that can mount my whole WORKGROUP like
FUSESMB when my system boot?

I tested FUSESMB and SMBNETFS, but in both of them I detected some slow
down in my network connection when compared with KIO SLAVES smb://
access protocol or GNOME Nautilus Samba access... Is this a
configuration issue or is related to the funciton of the programs?
Also, I could not access remote PC's that needed authentication
(username and password) with them...

PS: I know FUSESMB does the job, but I had some issues with it and I
don't want to use it anymore...

Thanks for your help,

André M.

[Bug 738310] [NEW] [SMBNETFS] - Slow down when accessing files

2011-03-19 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I tried opening remote files (via SAMBA on a Windows XP Professional
CPU) via KIO SLAVES in my Kubuntu distribution and I couldn't open most
of them because a lot of aplcations don't have support for KIO SLAVES
smb:// protocol (and I don't know why - it's a lot more efficient to
access a remote path directly than mounting it with CIFS or something
related...)...

PROBLEM:

Anyway, when I open some files with some specific programs (until now
I've only see this happen with GNOME Mplayer and LibreOffice) via
SMBNETFS mounting filesystem, I have a delay when compared to the CIFS
mounting (to mount via CIFS I used MOUNT.CIFS)... So is this delay
related to the WORKGROUP scan or is it a bug of the program?

SOLUTION:

Use CIFS similar way of mounting remote SAMBA paths on SMBNETFS to speed
it up...

SOME IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

In the attachments there is a XLS file that has some information about
how this delay affected the accessing speed...

Thanks for your attention and help,

André M.

[Bug 729222] Re: [LibreOffice] - Opening Problems on PPTX files on BrOffice 3.3.1 (LibreOffice)

2011-03-20 Thread André Madureira
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: libreoffice

  Problem:

When I open any PPTX file, I can see a different layout in the slide
(wallpaper don't show up, text don't show up, animations out of place,
etc...) when compared to Microsoft Office 2007 management of PPTX
  formats...

  Solution:

Change the way BrOffice (LibreOffice) deals with PPTX format to make it
keep the same management of Microsoft Office 2007...

The solution of this problem is interesting because presentations
created in PPTX format in BrOffice can't be right opened, shown, viewed
when opened in Microsoft Office 2007 (which is the most used program for
presentations today because it's created by Microsoft practically only
for Windows and now Macs)... This makes me use only the PPT format,
which is a lot bigger than PPTX and has more programs that can open it
when compared to the ODF format...

This don't happen when I open the same file at PPT format (if I try to
save the PPTX file as PPT using BrOffice 3.3.1, it saves the file with
the layout error too, so I have to convert it with Microsoft Office

[Bug 688640] Re: Kubuntu - Can't Configure Printer via "kcmshell4" (system-configure-printer-kde)

2011-03-09 Thread André Madureira
Sorry about my bad specification of the problem (I was not good in LINUX
system - package system, etc - at the time I did this bug report)...
It's a problem of the package "system-config-printer-kde"... The package
"system-config-printer" that is installed by default in GNOME desktops
can configure this printer (remote SAMBA printer - EPSON STYLUS C67
under Windows 7 Home Premium with KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 2011)
well...

Let me be more specific:

PROBLEM:

I tried to configure a printer in the package "system-config-printer-
kde" that is in another computer (via SAMBA network) with USERNAME and
PASSWORD network protection (needs a password and a username to access
shares - remote paths and printers). But this package said that it was
AUTHENTICATING the USERNAME AND PASSWORD, but it didn't go along with
the configure (it froze in this part of the configuration)... I thought
in a first impression that the firewall of the SAMBA machine (KASPERSKY
KIS 2011 FIREWALL) was causing the problem, but I discarded this
possibility because I disable it, and the problem persisted... So I
tried configuring the printer via package "system-config-printer", and
then I could do it fairly well...

SOLUTION:

Check why the package "system-config-printer-kde" froze in the
AUTHENTICATION (Send the USERNAME and PASSWORD to the remote computer
and receive the DENY OR ACCEPT of this computer) part of configuring a
SAMBA REMOTE PRINTER...

Thanks for your help,

André M.

SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS THAT I'VE COLLECTED IN SOME TESTS:

Attached with this comment are some printscreens of my machine (with
Windows 7 and Linux ON)... Below I'll detail some important tests I
did...

Please consider --> as "Connected to a Windows PC"

My Windows 7 Ultimate --> Problematic Remote Windows 7 Ultimate PC
(hostname: CONCE-CPU): Could be done via \\hostname , but I could not
see the remote PC in my Workgroup (which can indicate a problem in this
PC network connection or not)...

My Linux Ubuntu and Kubuntu 10.10 --> Problematic Remote Windows 7
Ultimate PC (hostname: CONCE-CPU): Could not be done... I could see the
PC in my Workgroup with LINUX... I also could ping this pc with the
command "ping IP-OF-THE-REMOTE-PC"... I could not ping the same remote
pc with the command "ping HOSTNAME" because the error message "ping:
unknown host conce-cpu" raised...

My Virtualized Windows XP under my LINUX native OS (VirtualBox PUEL
technology) --> Problematic Remote Windows 7 Ultimate PC (hostname:
CONCE-CPU): Could not be done... I could see the remote PC in my
Workgroup.. .I could see the PC in my Workgroup... I also could ping
this pc with the command "ping IP-OF-THE-REMOTE-PC"... I could not ping
the same remote pc with the command "ping HOSTNAME" because the error
message "ping: unknown host conce-cpu" raised...

PS: Below are the printscreens of these tests I did in a ZIP compacted
format...

RE: [Bug 688562] Support of DOCX and PPTX file formats at BrOffice 3.2.1

2011-03-03 Thread André Madureira
Hello Again,

-->" Yes. Does LibreOffice work for you?"

Yes it does... Together with that I was using version 3.2.1 of BrOffice
(which is outdated because until that version, BrOffice was mainly
maintained by OpenOffice principal code)... Now I switched to version
3.3.1 (maintained by LibreOffice) and the problem was solved (now the
layout of my PPTX and DOCX files is kept exactly the same, also the
program don't crash suddenly anymore)... Thanks for your help :) ... You
made me think twice what I was choosing to use as software...

Thanks again for your help,

André M.

[Bug 729222] [NEW] Opening Problems on PPTX files on BrOffice 3.3.1 (LibreOffice)

2011-03-04 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

2007/2010 or any online convert service as ZAMZAR.COM)...

PS: You can check this error out with the 2 files I'll send to you in
PPTX and PPT format... So that you can compare the BrOffice 3.3.1 (is a
modification of LibreOffice) with Microsoft Office 2007 management of
the same file format (PPTX)... I converted the PPTX files to PPT with
ZAMZAR.COM (I did so to avoid any change in the files structure that
could be done by Microsoft Office)... Together with that, I'm sending
some print screens to you see the errors I could view...

[Bug 730264] [NEW] Can't acess remote files (in another computer via Network) with LibreOffice 3.3.1

2011-03-06 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libreoffice

Hello,

Problem:

When I try to open a file located in another PC (via Network - being
more specific, via SAMBA) with LibreOffice 3.3.1 (in my case, BrOffice
3.3.1), it says that it can't open a remote file, so I'm obligated to
copy the file to my PC to be able to open it...

Solution:

Implement an opening procedure that is capable of lock the file via
network and with it, enable the opening of remote files (files located
in another PC via Network - SAMBA or NFS)...

Workaround:

Copy the remote file to your local PC and, after saving the
modifications done by LibreOffice in this local file, move it to the PC
that it came from, replacing the file...

PS: I tried opening this remote file in a PC which I have permissions to
read/write as ADMINISTRATOR...

MORE INFO ABOUT MY SYSTEM:

KUBUNTU 10.10; KDE 4.5.1; LINUX KERNEL 2.6.35-27-GENERIC-PAE;
LIBREOFFICE 3.3.1 (BrOffice 3.3.1); Samba Updated; OS of the PC where
the remote file is: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit with proper permissions to
allow read/write acess to the path via Network; NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600 GT;
INTEL QUAD CORE 2.66; INTEL MOTHERBOARD DG35EC; 4GB RAM DDR2 667 MHZ

PS²: I'd send the apport info to you, but it says that the package
(libreoffice) is not Ubuntu Original, avoiding me from sending more data
to you...

Thanks for your help,

André M.

[Bug 730336] [NEW] [NOT A BUG] Include a dependency in SAMBA package

2011-03-06 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Hello,

Problem (Dependency error):

When I install SAMBA via NAUTILUS sharing option (Default File Manager
of UBUNTU 10.10) it marks the package "libpam-smbpass" for installation
together with SAMBA package, but when I try to install SAMBA via
SYNAPTIC, it don't mark this package...

CONSEQUENCE:

What I've noticed is that without the package "libpam-smbpass", my
computer is now shown to the other computers in my SAMBA workgroup...
With it my PC is shown in the workgroup...

Solution:

Add the package "libpam-smbpass" to SAMBA dependencies in a way that the
user have to install it if he/she wants to install SAMBA via SYNAPTIC or
other package manager...

WORKAROUND:

Install the package "libpam-smbpass" separately from SAMBA package using
any package manager...

Thanks for your attention,

André M.

Hello Jelmer Vernooij,

So... How can I solve the red herring problem? I don't know if this
problem was exactly caused by the lack of installation of the package
"libpam-smbpass", but what I know is that after I installed the package
"libpam-smbpass" this issue was solved

[Bug 730264] Re: Can't acess remote files (in another computer via Network) with LibreOffice 3.3.1

2011-03-07 Thread André Madureira
WORKAROUND 2:

I've found out that LibreOffice needs a CIFS mounting to work on a
remote file... NAUTILUS does it automatically when I try to open a path
... But DOLPHIN (Default File Manager of KUBUNTU 10.10) don't... So is
this a restriction of LibreOffice? Because in my Open Dialog (in my
Kubuntu Desktop) I have the option to directly (without the need of CIFS
mounting) access SAMBA shares (In Ubuntu I don't have such option)...
And OpenOffice allow this type of opening (directly - without the need
of CIFS mounting - access SAMBA shares) together with CIFS mounting
opening procedure...

QUESTION:

Am I forced to mount via CIFS (in /etc/fstab) all my network to be able
to work on documents, presentations and etc via LIBREOFFICE?

BEST SOLUTION FOR EVERY DESKTOP EDITION:

Modify LibreOffice code to allow it to access directly (without the CIFS
mounting) a SAMBA Share and open a remote file...

IMPORTANT NOTE:

What I've noticed too is that OpenOffice 3.2.1 does such handling (it
open CIFS mounting and directly SAMBA Shares, remote path)... So, if
both programs have come from the same origin (LibreOffice was done by a
group that came from OpenOffice group), can you guys open the source
code of OpenOffice and "translate" this part to LibreOffice?

Thanks for your help,

André M.

[Bug 730984] [NEW] Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS

2011-03-07 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

Hello,

Problem:

When I access a SAMBA share via Dolphin, it don't mount it with CIFS
file system automatically... This causes some programs not to open the
remote files properly (and I can't understand why does this happen,
because Windows programs can open remote files normally without the need
of mapping the remote paths)...

Solution 1:

Make Linux programs access remote files without the need of CIFS
mounting...

Solution 2:

Make KDE file managers automatically mount (via CIFS) remote paths when
they're been accessed... Like Nautilus does with GNOME desktop (this
happens inside the .gvfs path) ...

WORKAROUND:

Mount manually the remote paths that you wish Linux Programs to access files...
For that I used the command:

sudo mount.cifs //ip_to_samba_PC/root_folder
/media/dir_where_to_mount_it_locally -o
username=user,password=pass,iocharset=utf8

PS: In the username and password you can't have a special character like
´ or ^ or ~ because it shows the error message above that says that
you're not logging in with the right username or password:

Permission Denied

Thanks for your help,

André M.

[Bug 731976] Re: SAMBA - Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-23 Thread André Madureira
PROBLEM SOLVED:

Problem Solved... I recovered my Windows 7 Ultimate image (with Norton
Ghost 15) to the problematic Windows 7 Ultimate PC and now I can connect
it... Surprisingly I could access it via my Windows 7 Ultimate before
this recovery, but I couldn't in my Linux.. This was probably caused by
any problem in the share of the Problematic PC that could not occur in
the port requested by Linux or something related to Linux-Windows SAMBA
access protocol...

SUGGESTION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM:

Anyway, I suggest for the ones that have the same problem I had to
recover your local PC Windows image (please be sure that there aren't
any share problems in your Windows OS) via any IMAGE CREATOR software
(Norton Ghost and Acronis are very good for this type of work - You
could try CLONEZILLA too (I don't know if it works as well as it does
with LINUX when used to create Windows images because I only use it for
LINUX imaging))

I hope I could help you,

[Bug 731976] Re: SAMBA - Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-23 Thread André Madureira
Hi kwagga,

Is this a recent problem or does it happens since you have been using
Ubuntu 10.10?

If this problem is recent, so I suggest you yo recover your LINUX with
any IMAGE RECOVERY program (dd or CLONEZILLA or anything related) if you
have an image of it...

MORE INFO: I also use Ubuntu 10.10 (also, I've installed Kubuntu 10.10
from repositories meta package "kubuntu-desktop") and both of them are
DESKTOP editions... So, this problem can or not be Ubuntu specific
because, in my case, the problem was solved with a recover of my Windows
OS image to the problematic PC... You can try removing SAMBA packages
(SAMBA, libsmbclient, etc...) and it's configurations with SYNAPTIC and
try installing them with NAUTILUS (Select a path and try to configure it
to be shared via SAMBA, so that NAUTILUS can install the proper packages
and configurations again)...

PS: I don't know if with "purge" option of apt-get or SYNAPTIC can
remove all configuration files from your PC because I had some programs
that I purged with apt-get command and via SYNAPTIC either and some
configuration files remained in my PC after the uninstall... Try to
search your LINUX partition for samba configuration files (smb.conf ;
etc) and remove them...

PS²: You also did the comment:

"The one strange thing I have noticed, that by default, connecting to
the linux box, or any other machine for that matter, would normall allow
you to see all the shares first, such as printers, etc. Then only when
you go into the folders, it would ask you for your credentials. What's
happening now, is that it asked for credentials immediately, the only
credentials that seem to work was root, but then to access the folders,
no credentials worked, even after I added root to those directory
permissions."

The comment above leads me to think that this is a configuration problem
because, like you said, the normal procedure when a remote PC accesses a
UBUNTU SAMBA SERVER is to open it immediately without any authentication
request and when the user try to access a path or printer, it asks for
the authentication...

I hope I could help you,

André M.

[Bug 738310] Re: [SMBNETFS] - Slow down when accessing files

2011-03-24 Thread André Madureira
Hello Mikhail Kshevetskiy,

I tested the procedure you provided, but DOLPHIN could not access the
folder with the error message:

"Can't enter path /media/SMB/192.168.1.99/TESTE"

So, I'm forced to use access this path exclusively with the address
"/media/SMB/WORKGROUP/LUIZA-CPU/TESTE"

PS: When I access the path WORKGROUP for the first time inside SMB the
DOLPHIN freezes for a while and then the remote computers appear as
links to paths with their names (in example: LUIZA-CPU, CONCE-CPU,
etc)... So, I think SMBNETFS mount the WORKGROUP only when I try to
access it via DOLPHIN or other file manager for the first time and then
SMBNETFS refreshes the mounting automatically in the default time of
300s (5 min)...

Re: [Bug 731976] SAMBA - Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-25 Thread André Madureira
Hello kwagga,

My sharing problem was solved with the problematic machine through a
Windows 7 OS Image restore via Norton Ghost 15 (although I know this is
not a solution, nor workaround for the problem), which leads me to think
that this is a Windows configuration problem... Since I don't have the
problem anymore, I can place my smb.conf file like you asked, but I
doubt this would help in the solution of your problem...

Steps to Reproduce the Problem (like Clint Byrum model):

   1. Configured a path to be shared in Windows 7 Ultimate
   2. Tried to access it with both Nautilus and Dolphin and both showed
the error: "Can't enter the remote machine CONCE-CPU" (without
asking for the authentication to access the machine)

PS: The error persisted in my virtualized Windows XP Professional SP3 in
my Linux via Virtual Box Puel (latest version)

PS²: This problem is not related to the Windows 7 SP1 installation
because I tested the access of NAUTILUS to Windows 7 Ultimate Server
with and without SP1 installed, and it could access it in both cases...

PS³: I'm sending an image of the configuration of my Windows 7 OS
related to sharing options (these printscreens were taken in a Windows 7
Ultimate Build 7601 with SP1 PT-BR)... The computer from which I'm
sending the configuration don't have any problem related to remote file
share (server) or access (client), so we can have a clue of what
configurations can be applied without affecting Ubuntu (client) access
of Windows 7 (server) remote files... This PC uses BITDEFENDER TOTAL
SECURITY 2010 WITH FIREWALL AND ANTIVIRUS ENABLED ; Malware Anti-Malware
Bytes 1.50 ; Windows Firewall Disabled ; Windows Defender Disabled ;
Secunia PSI 2.0 and other program that are in a printscreen...

PS: All PC's in my WORKGROUP are configured for a Domestic Network (lets
files to be shared and accessed) and *NOT PUBLIC NETWORK*...

I'll later send more printscreens of other PC's in my WORKGROUP for you
to analyze too...

Thanks for your help and I hope I could help in the solution or
reproduction of the problem,

André Madureira

Re: [Bug 730984] Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS

2011-03-26 Thread André Madureira
I think like our fellow zigi... The user should have the option to mount
the remote path when the program that don't support SMB:// KIO SLAVES
functionality accesses it... It could be done either via that program or
via a file manager like Dolphin or Konqueror...

Another info that I received is that VLC can't support KIO SLAVES and
will never support it because it needs some specific HTTP protocol
access that don't work on KIO SLAVES...

[Bug 730984] Re: Kubuntu - Mount SAMBA shares when Dolphin access them via CIFS

2011-03-26 Thread André Madureira
I did a bug report in the LIBREOFFICE package
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/730264) and
Gnome Mplayer (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
mplayer/+bug/737201) and Amarok
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+bug/738262) because
all of them don't support KIO SLAVES or (in the case of AMAROK) don't
handle it as well as it should (AMAROK is a program done to work on KDE
and therefore should at least support KIO SLAVES because it is a
characteristic of KDE)...

I'm reporting these bug reports to the packages mentioned to make a join
between the discussions about what is the best solution to this
situation/problem...

2011-03-26 Thread André Madureira

1 - Open a file in a remote path via KIO SLAVES SMB:// protocol in AMAROK for
the second time (when opened for the first time, AMAROK CAN OPEN IT, BUT CAN'T

[Bug 731976] Re: SAMBA - Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-03-26 Thread André Madureira
PROBLEM (ACTUAL RESULTS):

Can't see the remote paths nor files, but I can see the remote
computer...

EXPECTED RESULTS:

See the path and files of the remote computer...

POSSIBLE CAUSE TO THE PROBLEM:

Windows 7 Configuration that don't work well in Ubuntu SAMBA package (client)
when accessing it...
I can't provide the printscreen with the configuration of the problematic PC
because I recovered an image of a Windows 7 OS (I did so because the PC had
some other problems related to virus that forced me to do it - BUT THE PROBLEM
WAS HAPPENING BEFORE THIS VIRUS PROBLEM COME UP) to it and the problem was
solved...

PS: This have happened with KIO SLAVES SMB:// protocol (in KDE 4.5.1
DESKTOP in Kubuntu 10.10) and CIFS protocol too... It also happened in
NAUTILUS in GNOME DESKTOP (in Ubuntu 10.10)...

PS²: More info about how to reproduce please see the last comment...

PS³: Apport Collect info are in the other comments...

[Bug 743177] [NEW] [TrueCrypt] - Can't unmount a encrypted container via TrueCrypt Dismount button

2011-03-26 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Hello,

ACTUAL RESULTS (PROBLEM):

Can't unmount a encrypted container via TrueCrypt Dismount button...
Error message showed when Dismount Button of TrueCrypt is pressed:

"device-mapper: remove ioctl failed: Device or feature is busy Command
failed"

EXPECTED RESULTS (SOLUTION):

Unmount a encrypted container via TrueCrypt Dismount button...

WORKAROUND (TEMPORARY/ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION):

1 - Unmount the encrypted container with the command:

sudo umount /media/truecrypt1

2 - And then click on the TrueCrypt Dismount button

PS: I take a PrintScreen of the problem for you to see how does it
happens...

PS²: I think this is caused by a loop back of program that handles
FSTAB...

PS³: I didn't selected TRUECRYPT package because it don't exist in the
LAUNCHPAD BUGS LIST OF PACKAGES... So, I suggest that TRUECRYPT be
inserted in the UBUNTU REPOSITORIES because it's an OPENSOURCE project
and it's a very good and secure software (site:
http://www.truecrypt.org/)...

Thanks for your help,

[Bug 743603] [NEW] [Mplayer and VUZE] Vuze forces Mplayer to Frame Drop

2011-03-27 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vuze

Hello,

PROBLEM:

When I try to play a movie (no matter the quality it has) with Mplayer
and Vuze open, Vuze forces Mplayer to Frame drop some frames in the
movie in a specific range of time...

SOLUTION:

Make them work together as Vuze does with VLC...

WORKAROUND:

There's none

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1 - Open a video with any Mplayer Frontend (I tested the issue with Kmplayer,
Gnome-Mplayer and SMplayer)
2 - Open Vuze and start a download with it
3 - Play the video in Mplayer and wait until the problem happens (it happens in
a specified range of time)

POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM:

1 - HDD access of Vuze making the read of a movie file (that generally is a big
file, more than 700 MB) happens in a low speed or latency
2 - High use of Processor or RAM Memory making these resources low enough to
Mplayer do Frame drops

PS: I tested the issue with GNOME-MPLAYER; SMPLAYER; KMLAYER with a
1080p video (H264 - MKV) and a 720p video (H264 - MKV) and a 480p video
(XVID - AVI)...

André M.

[Bug 780115] [NEW] [system-config-printer-gnome] - Can't configure a remote printer via SAMBA that has any Space in it's share name

2011-05-09 Thread André Madureira
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer-gnome

Hello,

[Details]:

I tried to configure a printer in my Ubuntu 11.04 via system-config-
printer-gnome, but I couldn't because I could find the printer in my
Samba Network, but when I tried to test the accessibility of the
printer, it failed even with the correct authentication username and
password...

[Workaround]:

So I had to change the share name of the printer, removing all the
spaces it had... And with that I could connect to it normally.

[Problem]:

"system-config-printer-gnome" can't connect to a Samba remote printer
that has spaces in it's share name...

[Informations Related to the OS's used to test the Issue]:

OS of the computer that has the Remote Printer: Windows 7 Ultimate x86
SP1 with Kaspersky Firewall allowing file, folder and printer sharing...

OS of my Machine (I used it to connect to the remote printer): Ubuntu
11.04 and Kubuntu 11.04

Thanks for your help,

André M.

  André M.

Re: [Bug 747400] Re: aplet wrongly replace space from samba share uri

2011-05-11 Thread André Madureira
Your problem is exactly equal to mine... I changed the printer sharing
name (removing all spaces in it's sharing name) in the Windows and, with
that, I could configure my Linux to access it via SAMBA...

In my opinion, this is a bug that should be fixed as soon as possible...
This can lead problem in corporative environments that have a lot of
printers shared in a network...

Re: [Bug 731976] Re: SAMBA - Can't access Windows 7 computer via SAMBA

2011-05-11 Thread André Madureira
I had a similar problem... But mine I solved by reinstalling Windows...
So, this bug might be in Windows network configuration file...
Strangely, I could access the problematic PC with my Windows without
problem... So, this configuration in Windows only affects Linux SAMBA
access to it...

In my opinion, like Bill Gates will probably do nothing to solve this
issue, Linux programmers should discover the issue and make a solution
in Linux to it (if this is possible)...

[Bug 737192] [Kubuntu and VLC] - Use of KIO SLAVES to open remote files (located in Network) instead of needing CIFS to do it

2011-05-24 Thread André Madureira
Hello,

For me the temporary workaround above don't work (it causes VLC to show
up an Error):

"Workaround:

Add this line at the bottom:
X-KDE-Protocols=http,ftp,smb"

PS: I'm running Kubuntu 11.04 32 bit with w32codecs and

[Bug 730264] Re: [LibreOffice] - Use of KIO SLAVES instead of CIFS to access remote files (located in the Network)

2011-05-24 Thread André Madureira
I had the same problem as HubertB

I can access remote files with LibreOffice using KIO SLAVES Samba
protocol (SMB://), but when any change is done in the file, this change
is not committed to the computer from which this file came from (SMB
server)...

These changes are kept in the client computer (the computer that access
the SMB remote file) location
/var/tmp/kdecache-/krun/

Please solve this issue as fast as possible since this can cause serious
problems to Enterprise environments that need files to be committed to a
central SAMBA server...

PS: This issue is verified in LibreOffice version 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
(installed from LibreOffice UnOfficial Repositories) in a Kubuntu 11.04
32 bit OS with SAMBA version 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.2

Thanks for your help,

André M.

  Hello,

[Bug 333944] Re: Kubuntu jaunty: kded4 at 100% of CPU load

2011-05-24 Thread André Madureira
This issue is related to restart of KDM service with command (Press
CTRL+ALT+F1 and type in the commands):

sudo service kdm restart

Or with commands:

sudo service kdm stop
sudo service kdm start

PS: This issue is only happening with me when I restart this service...
When I restart my LINUX, it stops happening... This can be related to
the wrong starting order of other services that makes KDE4 consume 100%
of the CPU...
