[Bug 1904185] [NEW] Xterm Flicker on scroll

2020-11-13 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

Xterm flickers when scrolling fast and when refreshing screen, which can
be seeing opening a file with vim and pressing Ctrl+G.

It was reported elsewhere
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xterm#Flickering_on_scroll).

It can be easily fixed by passing "--enable-double-buffer" when
compiling (ie.: ./configure --enable-double-buffer).

[Bug 1904189] [NEW] rxvt-unicode flickers

2020-11-13 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open urxvt
2. vim ./file

The first time the file is open, it blinks for a fraction of a second. It
doesn't happen again after closing the file (but not leaving urxvt) and opening
again. If urxvt is closed and then opened again the flicker is seeing when
opening a file with vim for the first time.
This bug was reported upstream
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=747633O) with the workaround
to change TERM variable to screen-256color, which introduces another problem:
HOME and END button stop working as intended.

This bug can be fixed by disabling xft when compiling (ie.: ./configure
--disable-xft).

I tried to boot to linux-image-4.4.0-62-generic but I could not get past
the login screen. So I reinstalled the linux-image-4.4.0-62-generic and
run update-grub. Then I could boot to it (linux-image-4.4.0-62-generic)
and the brightness is working again. I think it is a kernel regression.

2014-05-20 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
I can confirm the workaround using flat file configuration still works at
14.04. Steps to apply:

1. Install compizconfig-settings-manager
2. Open ccsm and go to Preferences > Export and save your preferences
"saved.profile"
3. Change Backend to "Flat-file Configuration Backend" (here some people get
stucked with a messed desktop with will be fixed at step "4")
4. Import your saved profiled (step "2")

[Bug 1321724] [NEW] Compiz Plugin scaleaddon not working

2014-05-21 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

The Scale Addon plugin is not working.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open ccsm
2. Enable scaleaddon
3. Go to "Appearance" > "Window Title" > "Window Title Display" and set anyone
of the 3 options ("All windows", "Highlighted windows only", "No display").
4. Now when using the Scale plugin no title is displayed at windows.
5. After that, if you run "compiz --replace", the Window Title always display
at "Highlighted windows" when using the Scale plugin (very annoying).

[Bug 1667323] Re: Backlight control does not work and there are no entries in /sys/class/backlight

2017-03-15 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
The bug happens with the latest 4.4 upstream stable kernel.

How I tested:

I reach:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.53

and downloaded:
linux-headers-4.4.53-040453_4.4.53-040453.201703120131_all.deb
linux-image-4.4.53-040453-generic_4.4.53-040453.201703120131_amd64.deb
linux-headers-4.4.53-040453-generic_4.4.53-040453.201703120131_amd64.deb

Then I run: dpkg -i linux-*

>From grub menu I choose the 4.4.53 kernel.

[Bug 1667323] Re: Backlight control does not work and there are no entries in /sys/class/backlight

2017-03-16 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Kernel 4.4.0-63 is bad.

Details:

I reach
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/11016267

It does not contains kernel 4.4.0-63 but instead 4.4.0-43.63. Besides
that, I proceed and installed:

linux-headers-4.4.0-43_4.4.0-43.63_all.deb
linux-headers-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb

So kernel 4.4.0-43 is good.

But I think you need me to test the 4.4.0-63 kernel, so I run "apt
install linux-image-4.4.0-63. And then concluded that kernel 4.4.0-63 is
bad.

[Bug 1662860] Re: /sbin/ldconfig.real: /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 is not a symbolic link

2017-07-28 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Careful is advised when trying to fix theses warnings manually creating
links.

I run:
sudo mv /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1.org
sudo mv /usr/lib32/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 /usr/lib32/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1.org
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.375.39 /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1
sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.375.39
/usr/lib32/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1

And ended up unable to boot into a graphical interface. I was able to
recover by running:

dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-375

Today it has stopped to work again.

Adding "sleep 1" above "exec lightdm" in /etc/init/lightdm.conf fixed it
but put "service lightdm start" in rc.local don't.

[Bug 771896] Re: No way to save current session

2012-05-10 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
I have made a workaround until this gets fixed. It is a script that helps to
configure your session. Just paste this at terminal:

cd ~/ && wget -c http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4098082/session.config && chmod +x
~/session.config && ~/session.config

You can view the code of script (
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4098082/session.config ), there are explanations in
each part. It will create a startup script which will move to each viewport and
open the specified application.

*Removing*

To remove any changes made by my script just delete this files:

  - ~/session.config
  - ~/sessionconf
  - ~/sessionconf.bak
  - ~/.config/autostart/sessionconf.desktop

Or run this at terminal:

rm ~/session.config ; rm ~/sessionconf ; rm ~/sessionconf.bak ; rm
~/.config/autostart/sessionconf.desktop

[Bug 1424609] [NEW] Can not print in landscape

2015-02-23 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

All jobs are printed in portrait.

No matter which file is (pdf, odt, jpg).

Even from command line (lp -o landscape file.pdf) the problem persist.

Different paper sizes also do not matter (A4, A5).

Changing printer makes no difference.

Changing connection (usb, network attached) also makes no difference.

Attached an example file that could not be printed in landscape.

[Bug 1317312] [NEW] At Nautilus, when we click on "File" > "New Document" the only option showed is "Empty Document", ie, it does not show the option to create new files based on the templates at $HOM

2014-05-07 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 without any ppa or otherwise installed package.

At Nautilus, when we click on "File" > "New Document" the only option
showed is "Empty Document", ie, it does not show the option to create
new files based on the templates at $HOME/Templates. Because of that,
one can not use HUD to create a new document based on his/her templates.

I have reported upstream
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=729606) but then I was
referred here.

The behavior is different if I right click on an empty space and select "New
Document". Then my templates are showed.

2012-10-17 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
@Charles
Ok, I thought you could cause it whenever you want. I agree with you that
it seems to be a function of the amount of file IO. Unfortunately I could
not reproduce when I tried to generate a lot of read and write. But my
files get corrupted after 15-20 days.
I am now testing the same disk (Intel SSD) in another notebook (also with
up to date Ubuntu 12.04) just to make sure it is not related to a hardware
problem with another component like motherboard for example.

It would be very nice if Linus give his opinion on this. He has told that
he doesn't like spinning disks, so besides coordinating the kernel he also
uses solid state disks. Is this a hardware failure? Or a bug?

Re: [Bug 992424] Re: ext4 filesystem errors on SSD disk

2012-09-18 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
I am using AHCI mode. Now I am testing Btrfs for two days. Although it is
much more slow for boot (11.6 seconds vs 4.8 with ext4) and for
installation, so far I have not experienced any file corruption. I will
report again in a couple of weeks.
Regards.

[Bug 992424] Re: ext4 filesystem errors on SSD disk

2012-09-22 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
More info, trying to elucidate this issue.
Using btrfs: unintentionally I pressed the evil suspend button and the computer
goes for a loop sleeping and awakening until reboot with a corrupted
filesystem. Btrfs seems to somehow recover itself and after ~300 seconds get to
boot after a few DRDY err and others errors. Tried to boot from a live cd and
repair without success.

[Bug 992341] [NEW] Scale Compiz plugin freeze

2012-04-30 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Public bug reported:

"Scale" and "Application Switcher" plugin for windows in all workspaces
(viewports) freezes.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Initiate the plugin (for example "Super + w")
2) Use the arrows to change from one window to another
3) Repeat step "2" until the system freezes

ps.: It doens't seem related to Nvidia since even with Noveau driver the
freeze occur.

Also the bug doesn't occur with "Ring Switcher" neither with "Static
Application Switcher".
