[Bug 382071] [NEW] bumping trackpad results in click (tapping) syntaptics
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: brushing a finger on a trackpad should NEVER result in a click action. There is no reason for this, and it is highly disorienting for most of the people I know when random things happen on their computers. My novice friends fear computers because of random things happening, and many moderate people switch to external mice because of this bug. Note, this highly disturbing behavior is also default in windows, and is called tapping. Macs also have a similar thing, but they at least have their trackpad click, but it's still wrong. Basically, 1. we need tapping to be off by default, This will likely require a source modification to the syntaptics module, and not just a change in the config file, because it's a multi step config file change (something about dpms) and for the few people who like it, 2. the option to toggle it on should be made easy. Right now it's googling and editing an Xorg config file, so everytime we have to regenerate an x config, it comes back up! This is a security vulnerability, I have seen it happen on more than just me and my system, people click objects that they wern't trying to, and if it's an executable, or file that gets loaded, the system gets compromised... also people are more likely to submit web information and submit erroneous data into forms. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Visibility changed to: Public -- bumping trackpad results in click (tapping) syntaptics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382071 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Correction, it drops the connection when the screen saver goes off. The plasmoids on my screen saver have internet access, but when I go back to regular I have no network connection. I then have to click on the connection, it asks me for the WEP key>?!?!!?!!? why??? I close it, then it pops up again, then I close it..THEN the next time I click on the connection it comes up AND WORKS. [Bug 377222] [NEW] hardware drivers device manager for Nvidia does not give meaningfull error message when linux-headers does not work with module
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal-device-manager For some reason the linux-headers-2.6.28-12-generic was blocked and was not installed. to reproduce, setup the nvida drivers uninstall linux-headers, you may have to uninstall the nvidia driver, and install it again without the linux headers... it looks like the linux-headers package installation takes care of installing the nvidia kernel module).. or just wait for a kernel upgrade, reboot the computer -- it comes up in the "Graphics don't work mode" tell it to go back to default configuration (it'll use the NV driver) restart the computer -- it comes up in NV driver or svga... something with lower color density go to the drivers tool from the K menu, select nvidia 180, it does not highlight, and there is no error message. exit this. apt-get install the linux-headers go to the drivers tool select nvidia 180, it highlights! log-off and restart x server it comes back in accelerated glory. Re: [Bug 349066] Re: Release notes need to tell upgrade users how to add new network-manager widget
we can however write a deb that can install a systray application... and we can have that be part of the next release, and all the .deb doesn't actually have to install something (at least more than one text file in the system documentation). Re: [Bug 289258] Re: certain updates ( to kernel?) might make suspend to disk not work -- make unavailable or fix--resume didn't occur
it appears that the update to kernel should occur only on a clean start up specifically for the update of the kernel... then another reboot to continue on. A kernel update should give warning that the system needs to be restarted, and NOT apply the patches that break suspend/hibernate to disk until the user has indicated that the system can go down. If the user says dont restart the computer, it is implied that the customer might want the stuff written to disk. I dont know if I can get the conditions to reproduce again and a new kernel might work with an old ones info, and then again another might not... This is when CHANGING between two kernels. I dont see how a specific kernel could have a problem, or be expected to be future compatible with every little thing that could ever possibly go wrong. I was basically hypothesising that the kernel was switched out from under the hibernation image, or the format of the image changed between kernels. I will report on alsa-base in a moment ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic-pae 3.0.0-12.19 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.19-generic-pae 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic-pae i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Bug 943072] [NEW] need error message when usb drive removed
Public bug reported: I used uubootn to create a usb drive to test kubuntu alpha2. I accidentally pulled the usb thumb drive instead of the power cord, so I lost the other bugs I was going to report, However, the system did not even give an error message. So this is a request for an error message if an important filesystem gets removed. There should also be a way to suspend the system if a drive is removed, and give an option for it to be plugged back in. (no way to do this fully gracefully, but some grace would be nice) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943072 Title: need error message when usb drive removed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/943072/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 943073] [NEW] Try Kubuntu on 12.04 on netbook is unusable mess
Public bug reported: I think it is something to do with the plasma-netbook interface. I know that when I installed kubuntu on the netbook with a liveUSB drive a couple versions ago, it at least had a link to system settings so I could figure out how to get rid of the netbook interface. It is a huge pain to try to get a run command, system settings, internet, drivers... anything. I highly suggest removing the plasma-netbook interface because it doesn't do anything other than clutter and confuse If it can be made usable, it should be as a user selectable option. but it simply does not work. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943073 Title: Try Kubuntu on 12.04 on netbook is unusable mess To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/943073/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 943074] [NEW] install aditional drivers on 12.04 kubuntu needs to detect dependancies first
Public bug reported: On my netbook, once I managed to get to a regular KDE desktop, I clicked on the install aditional drivers to get my broadcom wifi working. 11.10 had this working/ an option to install aditional non free software if I recall. anyway, the big bug here is jockey kept grinding away, and got up to 75 percent complete on it's status bar (maybe 10 minutes) and said it didn't work. Then, I accidentally unplugged the liveusb drive instead of the power cord, so I lost the jockey error message that I was going to transfer over ethernet. anyway, jockey should check for internet connection, and should not progress the status bar if that does not work. Ideally, it would be best to have these packages on the iso image so we can connect to the network, because... I don't have a wired ethernet network connection!!! ** Affects: jockey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943074 Title: install aditional drivers on 12.04 kubuntu needs to detect dependancies first To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jockey/+bug/943074/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In the prepare step, Immediatly after selecting the language and clicking next, it tells me I do not have enough disk space. I have a 4gig SSD on my dell mini 9. I also have an SD card, and could otherwise make it work. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773866 Title: precheck too strict and does not allow for continue -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 382071] Re: bumping trackpad results in click (tapping) syntaptics
This is a miss-feature. most laptops have track pads. Most track pads are configured to send a click if tapped to the program under the cursor. There are options to change this behavior in gnome, (in KDE one had to do some configuration file editing) I am just saying that the default should be OFF... because I witness so many people miss click, and be very close to the unintended destruction of their data. Either you don't have any access to a laptop, or you are looking for a way to close a bug in a way other than WONT FIX. I expected a WONT FIX... as most computers have this erroneous behavior... and some people are coming to expect it. almost every user I talk to wants the setting in the off position. They just don't know that it is an option. -Aaron Peterson On Tue, Nov 2, 2010 at 9:48 AM, Gursimran singh Mohar wrote: > Hi Aaron, > > We are sorry for the delay in providing support. > Thanks for reporting bug and helping us to make ubuntu, even better. > Unfortunately, the information you liked with the bug report is not > sufficient for us to probe into the bug. [Bug 649560] Re: Too hard to find control panel / settings / "System" in 10.10 UNE
so what is the work around? I had to switch to fill gnome to save screen space... and be able to remove applets from the panel. -- Too hard to find control panel / settings / "System" in 10.10 UNE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 601370] Re: unable to change scaling mode (thinkpad t410, lucid, intel arrandale graphics)
Still happens on 9.10 on my dell mini 9 with intel 950 Kinda funny how many bugs add up to make something unusable.. CBS made their website stream solely on bandwidth.. not factoring processor power... So It tries to give me a full HD stream of Survivor, of which only one of my computers could play, and it's a desktop... so it looks jerkier than shockwave over dialup in 1998... just because CBS is stupid... anyway, lowering screen resolution helps it go smoother, but now everything looks so distorted... which is worse than jerky... Sigh.. one step forward, two steps back. -- unable to change scaling mode (thinkpad t410, lucid, intel arrandale graphics) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2091143] Re: pipewire should have option to equalize or normalize or lookahead volume management
This is a feature request. It was a huge bunch of work to submit this. If you want it somewhere else, please work on the bug reporting system to make it super easy to submit ideas and feature requests. I know your time is valuable, but it being this difficult to file a report when I spent so much time with these systems is frustrating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091143 Title: pipewire should have option to equalize or normalize or lookahead volume management To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pipewire/+bug/2091143/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2091143] [NEW] pipewire should have option to equalize or normalize or lookahead volume management
Public bug reported: We followed instructions to make it so our pulse audio didn't have extreme volume swings. We have found no such instructions for pipewire, and this would be an option desired intensely for all desktop audio. We upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. kubuntu variant. The options to just enable it for an audio stream would be nice. ** Affects: pipewire (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091143 Title: pipewire should have option to equalize or normalize or lookahead volume management To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pipewire/+bug/2091143/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
