[Bug 366835] Re: in 9.04 for AMD64, nedit will not copy to clipboard

2010-08-24 Thread Richard M Smith
The right-click on a tab problems is reported separately as a bug in lesstif,
but appears to be an Xorg problem.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=543647
Looks like redhat have a patch for this particular bug in fedora, but judging
by reversions there, it has not been fixed upstream in Xorg.

[Bug 623491] [NEW] Private folder and Lock Session and Automatic Login

2010-08-24 Thread manu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

Since many of us use Automatic Login to load the whole desktop
unattended but enable Lock Session feature so the session is locked from
the start, it would be nice if the Private folder feature would work
with such setup.

User case:

1. Automatic Login + Lock Session
2. Once the user introduces its password to unlock the session the Private
folder is also unlocked

In fact, I wouldn't mind so much if I had to enter the password twice in
a row, so it does not need to be any relation between "Lock session" and
"Private folder" but only between automatic login and the Private
folder.

[Bug 612988] Re: [nautilus] shows ubuntu-one ribbon in each folder

2010-08-24 Thread Rick Spencer
This is simply not working well. If users click that checkbox, and then
there is no way to reverse or stop the process, that is not acceptable.
The ability to recover from errors is a very basic usability principle.
The ribbon is too visible, and the consequences too severe to ship like
this.

I'm ok with keeping the option on the right click menu, but we should
remove the banner until the function is reversible.

[Bug 581157] Re: Ubuntu 10.4 drops to a BusyBox / Initramfs shell - WON'T BOOT UP AT ALL

2010-08-24 Thread wes wa
Looks like I've been nailed by the same bug as well.

After 3 months of getting 10.04 wubi working with all my customizations
(wine, compiz, etc.), i did an update, and then reboot and unable to
boot.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1558343

I'm not about to go thru all that effort again.

Back to XP for me as well.

Let's hope Manic Monkey, or whatever they call the next release, is much
better tested.

[Bug 623497] [NEW] Gwibber Stopped working with Twitter on separate machines

2010-08-24 Thread Sam Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Trying to attach this report to ticket #623490, but was unable to find
the ticket once I generated the report.

In the last 24 hours I've started encountering Twitter errors with
Gwibber on at least two separate machines. My last accepted tweet on one
machine was about 24 hours ago, the other was within 12. In neither case
can I received any updates. I've been looking for the troubleshooting
guide for both Gwibber and couchdb and can't find them on the help site
either.

Here is the last snippet from
~/.cache/gwibber/gwibber.log:---

I am running two fully updated 10.04.1 installations. The rest of my software
looks as follows:
LSB Version:
core-2.0-ia32:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-ia32:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-ia32:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-ia32:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-ia32:core-4.0-noarch
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

gwibber 2.30.1-0ubuntu1 Open source social networking client for GNOME

I was using the "compact" theme, but changing that didn't help at all.

I've tried everything to get this going again. I't would appear its
something directly in gwibber . I wanted to explore this in depth, but
for the life of me I can't find the troubleshooting guide any more.

Thanks for looking into this issue!

[Bug 617395] Re: Gwibber won't update timeline

2010-08-24 Thread Mark Wu
Okay, I think I have the same bug, and I also fix that for myself. Hope
this works for you.

Here comes the patch for /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages/gwibber/microblog/twitter.py

135c135,137
< if parse: return [getattr(self, "_%s" % parse)(m) for m in data]
---
>
> cleandata = [m for m in data if m!= None]
> if parse: return [getattr(self, "_%s" % parse)(m) for m in cleandata]

This bug is due to 'None' type element appear in data list from twitter,
I have no idea it comes from Twitter directly or Gwibber itself.

I just try to remove the invalid element before parse that, and make my
gwibber works again.

Mark

[Bug 623500] [NEW] Different gestures for parent windows are discarded

2010-08-24 Thread Chase Douglas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

Situation: Two clients select for different gestures (i.e. two-finger
rotate and drag) on two different windows where one window is a parent
of the other.

Expected behavior: When gestures for each client occur at the same time,
each client should receive an events for the selected gestures.

Current behavior: Only the child window will receive gesture events.

To really deactivate plymouth for one boot sequence the second keypoint
in the above list has to be:

- Delete "quiet splash" and add option "noplymouth" at the end of the
line

[Bug 593380] Re: [r300] unity quits with CheckGLError in ./ctk-render-target.c:285

2010-08-24 Thread Robert Hooker
This can be reproduced on intel (and other cards that support
GL_ARB_non_power_of_two) by launching unity with

MESA_EXTENSION_OVERRIDE=-GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two unity

Tormod, are you sure you aren't using r300g (that has limited NPOT
support) instead of r300c?

[Bug 539814] Re: tar: futimens() with a bad file descriptor (AT_FDCWD) causes bootstrapping failure with kernels < 2.6.22

2010-08-24 Thread Keith Ward
Attached debfiff for tar-1.22 that fixes this.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: tar

- Currently if you try to debootstrap Lucid on anything running a kernel
- older than 2.6.22, (I've specifically tried on 2.6.18) it fails with
- stuff like:
+ Bootstrapping Ubuntu Lucid with debootstrap is currently impossible with
+ any kernel < 2.6.22, due to a bug in tar - specifically it fails because
+ of a change to eglibc.

- # dpkg --force-depends --install
var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_5.0.0ubuntu10_amd64.deb
var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.5.22_amd64.deb
- tar: ./postinst: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./preinst: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./conffiles: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./md5sums: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./control: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: .: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
- dpkg-deb: subprocess tar returned error exit status 2
- dpkg: error processing
var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_5.0.0ubuntu10_amd64.deb (--install):
- subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
- tar: ./postinst: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./md5sums: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: ./control: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: .: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
- tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
- dpkg-deb: subprocess tar returned error exit status 2
- dpkg: error processing var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.5.22_amd64.deb
(--install):
- subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
- Errors were encountered while processing:
- var/cache/apt/archives/base-files_5.0.0ubuntu10_amd64.deb
- var/cache/apt/archives/base-passwd_3.5.22_amd64.deb
+ According to the debian bug report It seems that before eglibc 2.10.2-3,
+ calls to futimens failed silently, however due to a patch made to eglibc
+ 2.10.2-3, if futimens is called without a valid file descriptor, it now
+ fails with an "Bad File Descriptor" error, because the corresponding
+ utimensat() syscall was not added until kernel 2.6.22

- From further investigation, this appears to be due to a bug in tar.
+ Test Case:
+ 1) Boot a kernel older than 2.6.22
+ 2) Attempt to Bootstrap Ubuntu Lucid to any target.
+ The bootstrap will fail once it attempts to unpack packages with: tar:
./postinst: Cannot utime: Bad file descriptor
+
+ A patch is available (attached in launchpad) originating from the associated
debian bug, that ensures that futimens is only called with a valid file
descriptor.
+ A debdiff for 1.22-2 ( changing to 1.22-2ubuntu1 ) will be attached shortly.

** Patch added: "Debdiff for tar-1.22 with added tar-futimens patch from debian
bug report."

[Bug 623502] [NEW] autofs mounts not working properly with network-manager static IP configuration

2010-08-24 Thread heckheck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Release Lucid

$ apt-cache policy network-manager
network-manager:
  Installed: 0.8-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.8-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.8-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Some recent network remodeling seems to have exposed a problem with my
ability to use network-manager to configure my static IP address. With
my static IP address configured using network manager, my network
interface appears not to be initialized in time for autofs to start
properly. The result is that once booted, the automount process is not
running, and I cannot automount network drives. I can fix the problem
by simply adding a stanza to my /etc/network/interfaces file with my
static network interface. Once I do this, the automount process is
running fine following boot.

It seems to me that there might be some race between network-manager
starting the network interface and autofs trying to start the
automounter.

Looking at the syslog, I see that when I rely on network-manager to
start the interface, it is initially fully down with the carrier off

[Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama

2010-08-24 Thread Alex Cuervo
@Daniel, on the video it was between screen two and three, but it also
happens to me between the first and the second.

I can also move the mouse vertically, but everything else is dead not
even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works.

Hopefully this bug can gather enough people for some expert to look into
it.

I have been with linux since 6.10, and extremely happy with it. Then, I did not
have multiple monitors, I added my second monitor at around 8.04 and everything
worked beautifully with twinview.
Since 9.04 I added my third monitor and had to switch from twinview to
Xinerama, everything worked perfect until 9.10.
Now in 10.04 this bug has hampered my productivity a lot. Going back to fewer
monitors is not an option, once you go double or triple, is impossible to go
back.
I wish multiple monitor support (3+) gets a lot of attention soon. I cant
believe, linux, being the workstation grade OS it is, has such a wimpy
multi-monitor support. We can't possibly be the only ones needing 3+ monitors
support.

[Bug 619843] Re: euca-get-console-output returns one single line

2010-08-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I tested running as non-root with QRT and it is ok. I had some funky logic in
there regarding save/restore tests that had to be adjusted so the
libvirt-qemu:kvm user could write to the save directory I created. After fixing
that, it works great with and without AppArmor enabled. I also went ahead and
updated QRT to its 'libvirt-aa-secdriver.sh' tests with:
- root:root in qemu.conf and AppArmor enabled (the current Ubuntu default): PASS
- libvirt-qemu:kvm in qemu.conf and AppArmor enabled (the proposed default for
maverick): PASS
- root:root in qemu.conf and AppArmor disabled: PASS
- libvirt-qemu:kvm in qemu.conf and AppArmor disabled (the current Debian
default): PASS

[Bug 565543] Re: Alps touchpad detected as ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse(in VAIO E series) after the kernel upgrade

2010-08-24 Thread Gursimran singh Mohar
@Paul

I have tested what you said but unfortunately I'm bug triager and I do
not have the problem on my system. If you are very sure where the
problem is and what the problem is, go ahead with providing code..

As far as I know, this bug is in linux kernel as the kernel is not
detecting the touchpad. The drivers(synaptics) are same for all
touchpads but it loads only if the touchoad is recognised by the kernel.
If you can somehow make the kernel detect your device, you are almost
done..

Please specify, if I can be of some help to you

Also, as far as i think the problem is behind the HAL. I'm not sure
whether the HAL is a part of kernel or outside, but surely the problem
lies behind HAL..

[Bug 557499] Re: Intersil ISL3886 causes lock ups in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-08-24 Thread Norbert
I can confirm the report by chrysoberyl as it happens to me quite the
same way.

Even updating the system via "apt-get upgrade" freezes the machine after
a few MBytes of download - although no other application is running
apart from the bare lucid with gnome and services. I could only install
the latest updates (especially the approx. 120 MB of "new" kernel) by
manually interrupting the wifi internet connection about every 30 MB and
reconnecting - and hard-rebooting the machine a dozen of times :(...

This is seriously odd, since my machine is quite far away from the
router!

I'm using wicd which always reports 100% signal strength, although it
can't be more than about 30% (as is reported by Windows XP prof. x64,
running on the same machine without any problems of that kind!!)

[Bug 622887] Re: package virtualbox-ose-dkms 3.2.8-dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: virtualbox-ose kernel module failed to build

2010-08-24 Thread Matthias Blaicher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 619497 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/619497

There is a patch:
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.virtualbox.devel/3122

I haven't looked into how to apply it though.

[Bug 595265] Re: Can not add Facebook account as add button not displayed after authorisation.

2010-08-24 Thread theman
I had the same problem as written by the bug-reporter and I solved it, without
additional packages, on a really easy way.
Maybe it will work for you, just try it and let me know your results...

(Originally written for the Facebook-forum)

Well, I had the same problem, but i guess i fixed it...

I'm using Ubuntu 10.x, there two general problems with facebook, empathy
and gwibber...

1. Gwibber
I was not able, to add my facebook-account in gwibber, it always said, there'r
problems with verification or something like that , after sending the
login-data. (Same thing, as many of you had written before)

My solution
Open facebook in your webbrowser, than search "gwibber" with the normal
search-function, add the application, if everything is fine, "gwibber" should
appear in your "right" list, in your profiles settings.
Log out and close your webbrowser.

Now, go back to gwibber, than add the account again, it should work now!

2. empathy problem
Empathy can't log in at the facebook chat interface

My solution, after registration of the required facebook-username, wait
a few hours, if it's still not working, change your facebook-password
once.

Now it should work fine...
