I beleive this bug has been fixed in the latest version. Could you
please upgrade using our packages from:

Your version of Ubuntu is also a little old. Maybe the newest version is
not availiable at your Ubuntu version.

[Bug 361243] [NEW] Geronimo spec libraries duplicate functionality present elsewhere

2009-04-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Geronimo spec libraries contain the same classes than glassfish-javaee:

libgeronimo-activation-1.1-spec-java
libgeronimo-j2ee-connector-1.5-spec-java
libgeronimo-javamail-1.4-spec-java
libgeronimo-jms-1.1-spec-java
libgeronimo-jta-1.0.1b-spec-java

libgeronimo-javamail-1.4-provider-java functionality might be provided by
glassfish-mail, to be checked.
Furthermore the classes in libgeronimo-stax-1.0-spec-java are present in
OpenJDK core so they are probably useless.

The reverse dependencies should be checked for compatibility and the
Geronimo packages removed if possible.

[Bug 269027] Re: No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution

2009-04-14 Thread Matt Ginzton
Ahem, this bug does reflect one real problem on one specific family of
devices.

The snd-hda-intel driver does not correctly detect/configure the jacks
on HP Elitebook 2530p/6930p (and probably 8530p, and apparently some
other similar HP models). With the stock settings, you will get sound
from headphones but never the internal speaksers. You need to load the
snd-hda-intel driver with "model=mobile"; then it works.

(Apparently this is fixed in alsa from 2.6.30:
http://mjg59.livejournal.com/110148.html. But that doesn't help with
Intrepid or Jaunty, unless you backport the fix, or specifically
configure snd-hda-intel.)

IMHO this specific problem is addressable by this bug report, and if
other people have *other* problems they should file new bugs, but I
don't see the point in closing this one as invalid only to refile the
same issue this one originally tracked.

[Bug 357576] Re: Thunar hangs wile loading large folder contents mounted via cifs from NetApp server

2009-04-14 Thread Gillen Daniel
Sorry to gainsay you but I don't think this bug is related to bug
307408.

That bug was fixed in Intrepid 8.10 and it does still work in 9.04. As I already
said I have no problems traversing and listing the mounted shares in a console
window or using Nautilus.

There's only a problem when I use Thunar in 9.04 to do so.

In 8.10, after bug 307408 was fixed, I could use Thunar to browse the shares
without any problems.

[Bug 288358] Re: Nmap package missing lua libraries, also doesn't look in debian locations

2009-04-14 Thread Claudio Moretti
I suggest you to ask for a place with Ubuntu Developers, so you will be
able to update personally those packages and to guarantee to every
Ubuntu user that their packages are up-to-date. During this, you may
discover that software must be tested, before release, and that, in
order to provide the best for your customers, sometimes you must stick
to old-but-heavily-tested software, instead of running towards a beta
that may contain dangerous code.

How do you define that philosophy, then? I don't understand what you
mean.

It's hard for me to see how implementing this fix/feature would deter
anyone from using Ubuntu. :) To me it's not a security feature at
all; it's more akin to the safeguards in place to prevent accidental
launch of nuclear weapons. How would it be destructive to Ubuntu's
reason for existence? I don't understand what you mean.

There are many things that people, even good people, should do, but
don't. Is "they deserve what they get" the kind of attitude Ubuntu
wants to project? Is that even how we should treat other people? I
don't understand what your goal is with Ubuntu. What you're calling
for sounds more like it belongs in a distro like...Slackware? Gentoo?
Please explain what you're trying to achieve here. :)

I've read some horror stories; they aren't hard to find online. I am
a very careful driver, with a clean record, but just the other day a
fellow and I backed into each other in the parking lot. No one is
perfect; mistakes happen to the best of us. Thankfully the damage was
minor, and both of us were kind and understanding towards the other.
To me, that is the kind of attitude Ubuntu is about.

Who are these inexperienced-yet-diligent users of which you speak? :)

[Bug 358244] Re: Nouveau drivers fails to play video in Kubuntu Jaunty

2009-04-14 Thread Toni Helenius
Can I just say that this is awesome :) Well, expected behavior for a
modern OS. But given that I've never succeeded in this before, it's
awesome. By this I mean in hooking up two displays with NVIDIA graphics
card.

I switched to XRender. And I've got all the effects, performance is
good, I can watch HD-movies etc. Some screen savers are too slow. But I
guess that is expected since the 3D ain't working. Very good!

Triaged? Invalid?

[Bug 350890] Re: akonadi-server not started ( not registered in D-Bus)

2009-04-14 Thread Pascal Bach
I can confirm this problem.

I could solve it with the help of
http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi#Common_Problems. I think the problem is
related to AppArmor. To solve it I typed:

sudo aa-complain mysqld-akonadi
sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor reload

After this I could start akonadi using System Settings

Maybe this is related to Bug #305669 but I'm not sure

Craig,

Please let me know if you need any additional logs. The USB key is
running the alternate installer, not a live ISO, so adding the
restricted modules to it is not an option. However, I could get you the
syslog from the running system that has the restricted modules installed
if that would be helpful.

[Bug 353775] Re: [jaunty] Neverputt crashes at start

2009-04-14 Thread unggnu
It is fixed in Debian sid. Most likely it was the change "create symlinks to
ttf files in proper package (Fixes segfault for neverputt, there fore urgency
set to medium)"
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/n/neverball/neverball_1.5.1-1/changelog#versionversion1.5.0-2

At least I have compiled the latest Debian version and it doesn't have
the problem. I don't know if the old patch could be located. But the new
release has at least another important change: "Prevent thread race that
was occasionally crashing the game"

But of course the dependency will do it for Jaunty too.

this has never worked for me. Started with 8.04 LTS then upgraded to
8.10, then installed 8.10 x86_64. Lenovo Thinkpad R61. I get the
warning form gpm that my laptop will be shutdown, but it never shuts
down - just dies when power is low. If any logs are required I will
provide.

[Bug 359518] Re: acroread failed to update in 8.10

2009-04-14 Thread ricardisimo
I ran the remove and install commands to resolve this issue, and I'm no
longer staring at the Update Manager Icon, which is good. However,
remove uninstalled much more than just acroread, including mozilla-
acroread, which I was led to believe was useful for browsing PDFs
online.

I tried reinstalling it later, but it's no longer in the repos. Is
mozilla-acroread obsolete now? What about all of the other removed
files? Thanks.

[Bug 354305] Re: g++-4.3 regression, rejects valid code

2009-04-14 Thread Christopher Currie
Well, I was using the SVN version of boost, so I can't really testing a
newer version other than to update SVN, which I've done, and it still
fails.

More importantly, I tested the gcc43regression.cpp file (attached above)
which is a smaller test case than just testing boost, and it also fails
using gcc-snapshot:

ccur...@magellan:~/src/tmp$ /usr/lib/gcc-snapshot/bin/g++ -S
gcc43regression.cpp
gcc43regression.cpp: In member function 'size_t boost::dynamic_bitset::count() const':
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: 'mode' cannot appear in a constant-expression
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: template argument 1 is invalid
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: expected '>' before '*' token
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: expected '(' before '*' token
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: expected primary-expression before '>' token
gcc43regression.cpp:37: error: expected ')' before ';' token

Please let me know if there's any other information I needed to provide
in the original bug report; I'm not sure why the status is set to
"incomplete".

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2009-04-14 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I never had the particular symptoms described in bug 213669 (Caps Lock
causes keys to repeat), but I still see this bug (Keyboard keys get
stuck and repeat) on my fully-updated Jaunty system. It happens very
occasionally, once an hour or so, with no particular pattern that I can
observe, but it is definitely there.

I also see the atkbd messages that others have been reporting, although I’m not
certain if this is related.
[ 1985.034169] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xe0 on
isa0060/serio0).
[ 1985.034175] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e060 ' to make it known.

I think this bug should be reopened, but I will wait for some feedback
before doing so myself.

[Bug 339046] Re: Wireless WPA key corrupted

2009-04-14 Thread Øystein Viggen
While I did see this problem when trying to connect to the AP at my
parents' house, I had no problem connecting to my (WRT54GL w/ openWRT)
AP when I got back home. Still works after using seahorse to delete the
WPA password and then reentering it.

Unless some update in the past two days fixed it (unlikely) it seems to
me this issue only presents itself with certain APs.

(I've previously used Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 with the same AP I couldn't
get working with jaunty prerelease, and I'm certain it hasn't been
reconfigured in the mean time).

[Bug 162201] Re: shutdown power off ethernet disabling WOL

2009-04-14 Thread Andy Whitcroft
This is a broadcom chip, and appears to be controlled by the tg3 driver.
This sounds like it could be related to the upstream commit below:

  commit 0a459aac9d151c2e36ec65723b9b845b24c5cbc3
  Author: Matt Carlson
  Date: Mon Nov 3 16:54:15 2008 -0800

tg3: Allow WOL for phylib controlled Broadcom phys

This patch allows WOL to be enabled for Broadcom phys under phylib
control. The only exception is the AC131, which has a completely
different register set.

Signed-off-by: Matt Carlson
Signed-off-by: Michael Chan

I have back ported this fix to the latest Intrepid and jaunty kernels.
I have built some test kernels with this patch applied. Could you test
these kernels and report back here. When reporting please indicate
which kernels you have tested. The kernels are at the URLs below:

[Bug 355814] Re: [Kubuntu 9.04] Many items are in English while language is set to Spanish

2009-04-14 Thread Andreas Wenning
There is problems with some of the general strings in applications. Here
are two examples from kate: http://imagebin.ca/view/Rl2c91.html and
http://imagebin.ca/view/PPPFNO.html

Also the forward + back button is not translated; can be seen in all KDE
applications.

This is with danish lang-packs:
language-pack(|-kde)-da(|-base) is version 1:9.04+20090410

Discussed this in #kubuntu-devel and others could confirm same missing
translations with french.

this didn't do the trick here, I still have the python2.6 problem when

[Bug 360355] Re: Client volume control changes sound volume in the server

2009-04-14 Thread Reiner S
Hello,
I think you have only to change the (audio) device in gnome-volume-control.
At default it is the audio device of the server.
If you don't know the name of your audio device, you could find the it with
"lspci | grep audio"
So change your device in gnome-volume-control (=volume mixer).

[Bug 361271] [NEW] nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 crashes when typing new addres in firefox

2009-04-14 Thread topias.virta
Public bug reported:

Nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 crashes when I type new addres in Firefox.
This happens allways when firefox opens list of matching
addresses/bookmarks when I'm typing something in "addres bar" (I don't
know correct word in english). Display corrupts and mouse freezes but
keyboard seems to work (alt+sysrq+reisub works). Rhythmbox also stops
playing. I have to do a power button boot to get system up again. I
haven't found any other action that would affect same crashing.

[Bug 361272] [NEW] oem-config issued critical error msg

2009-04-14 Thread jtholmes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: oem-config

this could be either oem-config or oem-config-kde cant tell which because i
cant get access to the X server.

Occurred in kubuntu oem -install
installation went fine

right after initial user setup (first boot after removal of eom elements)
the system clears the screen, dims down the Kde Usplash and
displayed a small window in the middle of the screen containing the
following text

Logging in oem

A critical error occurred. Please look at kdm's logfiles for more information
or contact your system administrator

The window contains a small red circle with an X in it near the top left
of the displayed window.

Since Kdm logs to deamon.log i am including it along with the automatic
logs from ubuntu-bug

for clarification this critical error window displays between the end
of the user identification, Who Are you, name, login and password
and just before the normal Kde login screen displays.

There seems to be no discernable problems caused by the error message
you can log in and do whatever.

Re: [Bug 202796] Re: pidgin crashed with SIGSEGV (Just running in background connected to MSN account)

2009-04-14 Thread Tomé
Sorry, but I am new to bug reports, and I thought that my bug was related
to that one. My Pigdin crashed with no apparent reason, as it was in
background mode with my MSN and Google Talk accounts logged in. Since I
could not read the crash report (its window closed just after it sents the
report), I thought that it could be the same bug.

By the way, my Pidgin installation is running just fine by now, maybe the
bug that crashed my program was corrected in one of the recent updates. So
I won't submit a new bug.

Thanks for the attention and sorry about my poor English,

Tomé

I will have the same problem either with all media players on my system or
with none. I do not think the PPA package had an effect as DVDs do
sometimes work on my system.

[Bug 174283] Re: rm does not preserve root by default

2009-04-14 Thread Endolith
> These users are probably moving over from Windows anyway, and already
have that deep-seeded hatred of warning dialog boxes, so even just this
one probably isn't going to help them.

So instead of asking the user if they really want to delete their entire
filesystem... we should just assume that's what they really meant and do
it without asking? I'm not sure how you think this an improvement.

> The point is that the intended effect of this change won't happen, as
the method is already proven ineffective

Shouldn't synonyms like "sudo rm -fr ../../*" in the home directory be
prevented, too? It should be based on the actual effect the command
has, not a particular string. If not, I would think that's a bug.

> and there are literally thousands of other possible command sequences
that can hose a system in the same way, and having confirmation for them
all just makes easy

There's protecting the user against pasting malicious commands, and
there's protecting the user from the results of an unfortunate typo.
Even experienced users make stupid mistakes like this
(http://www.justpasha.org/folk/rm.html), which is why "preserve root" is
the default behavior in GNU rm:

http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/manual/html_node/Treating-_002f-
specially.html

If "the *nix philosophy" means "the user deserves to lose their life's
work over a simple mistake", then I don't see any value in keeping that
particular "philosophy" alive.

Maybe you'd be happier with something like Arch Linux?

[Bug 361275] [NEW] KMail composer: Ctrl-Del does not delete next word anymore, if prefixed by whitespace

2009-04-14 Thread Daniel Hahler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

TESTCASE:
1. Open KMail composer ("New message")
2. Focus the body part
3. Type " foo bar" (leading space)
4. Go to the beginning of the line
5. Press Ctrl-Del
Expected result:
" foo" gets deleted, leaving "bar"
Actual result:
Nothing happens.

I've thought that I've seen this with other apps, but e.g. KRunner and Kate
behave sane.
Also, Ctrl-Del works e.g. in KMail's subject field or the message list search
bar.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 360228] Re: notify-osd blur the image, not the background

2009-04-14 Thread Malaria
Same thing here, and it's very annoying !

After some observations, I think it comes from a resize problem: the
notification seems to allocate a static size for thumbnails, and those
are automatically stretched to fill a kind of square → no consideration
for the original size or even ratio of the thumbnail.

What is the point to have a new/beautiful/wonderful notification system if it's
beauty is spoiled by this behavior ?
It's a shame.

(sorry for my English)
