[Bug 269027] Re: No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution
Ahem, this bug does reflect one real problem on one specific family of devices. The snd-hda-intel driver does not correctly detect/configure the jacks on HP Elitebook 2530p/6930p (and probably 8530p, and apparently some other similar HP models). With the stock settings, you will get sound from headphones but never the internal speaksers. You need to load the snd-hda-intel driver with "model=mobile"; then it works. (Apparently this is fixed in alsa from 2.6.30: http://mjg59.livejournal.com/110148.html. But that doesn't help with Intrepid or Jaunty, unless you backport the fix, or specifically configure snd-hda-intel.) IMHO this specific problem is addressable by this bug report, and if other people have *other* problems they should file new bugs, but I don't see the point in closing this one as invalid only to refile the same issue this one originally tracked. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this problem. I could solve it with the help of http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi#Common_Problems. I think the problem is related to AppArmor. [Bug 339046] Re: Wireless WPA key corrupted
While I did see this problem when trying to connect to the AP at my parents' house, I had no problem connecting to my (WRT54GL w/ openWRT) AP when I got back home. Still works after using seahorse to delete the WPA password and then reentering it. Unless some update in the past two days fixed it (unlikely) it seems to me this issue only presents itself with certain APs. (I've previously used Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 with the same AP I couldn't get working with jaunty prerelease, and I'm certain it hasn't been reconfigured in the mean time). -- Wireless WPA key corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I haven't found any other action that would affect same crashing. - release: 9.04 (jaunty) - nvidia-glx-180: 180.44-0ubuntu1 (jaunty) - nvidia-180-kernel-source: 180.44-0ubuntu1 (jaunty) - kernel: linux 2.6.28-11-generic (x86_64 GNU/Linux) 00:00.0 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] Memory Controller (rev a2) 00:01.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation Device 075e (rev a2) 00:01.1 SMBus: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] SMBus (rev a1) 00:01.3 Co-processor: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] Co-Processor (rev a2) 00:01.4 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] Memory Controller (rev a1) 00:02.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] OHCI USB 1.1 Controller (rev a1) 00:02.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] EHCI USB 2.0 Controller (rev a1) 00:04.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] OHCI USB 1.1 Controller (rev a1) 00:04.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] EHCI USB 2.0 Controller (rev a1) 00:06.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] IDE (rev a1) 00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] High Definition Audio (rev a1) 00:08.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] PCI Bridge (rev a1) 00:09.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] SATA Controller (non-AHCI mode) (rev a2) 00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] Ethernet (rev a2) 00:0b.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] PCI Express Bridge (rev a1) 00:14.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] PCI Bridge (rev a1) 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 11h HyperTransport Configuration (rev 40) 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 11h Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 11h DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 11h Miscellaneous Control 00:18.4 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 11h Link Control 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8200M G (rev a2) 07:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. [Bug 361272] [NEW] oem-config issued critical error msg
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: oem-config this could be either oem-config or oem-config-kde cant tell which because i cant get access to the X server. Occurred in kubuntu oem -install installation went fine right after initial user setup (first boot after removal of eom elements) the system clears the screen, dims down the Kde Usplash and displayed a small window in the middle of the screen containing the following text Logging in oem A critical error occurred. Please look at kdm's logfiles for more information or contact your system administrator The window contains a small red circle with an X in it near the top left of the displayed window. Since Kdm logs to deamon.log i am including it along with the automatic logs from ubuntu-bug for clarification this critical error window displays between the end of the user identification, Who Are you, name, login and password and just before the normal Kde login screen displays. Re: [Bug 202796] Re: pidgin crashed with SIGSEGV (Just running in background connected to MSN account)
Sorry, but I am new to bug reports, and I thought that my bug was related to that one. My Pigdin crashed with no apparent reason, as it was in background mode with my MSN and Google Talk accounts logged in. Since I could not read the crash report (its window closed just after it sents the report), I thought that it could be the same bug. By the way, my Pidgin installation is running just fine by now, maybe the bug that crashed my program was corrected in one of the recent updates. So I won't submit a new bug. I will have the same problem either with all media players on my system or with none. I do not think the PPA package had an effect as DVDs do sometimes work on my system. [Bug 174283] Re: rm does not preserve root by default
> These users are probably moving over from Windows anyway, and already have that deep-seeded hatred of warning dialog boxes, so even just this one probably isn't going to help them. So instead of asking the user if they really want to delete their entire filesystem... we should just assume that's what they really meant and do it without asking? I'm not sure how you think this an improvement. > The point is that the intended effect of this change won't happen, as the method is already proven ineffective Shouldn't synonyms like "sudo rm -fr ../../*" in the home directory be prevented, too? It should be based on the actual effect the command has, not a particular string. If not, I would think that's a bug. > and there are literally thousands of other possible command sequences that can hose a system in the same way, and having confirmation for them all just makes easy There's protecting the user against pasting malicious commands, and there's protecting the user from the results of an unfortunate typo. Even experienced users make stupid mistakes like this (http://www.justpasha.org/folk/rm.html), which is why "preserve root" is the default behavior in GNU rm: http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/manual/html_node/Treating-_002f- specially.html If "the *nix philosophy" means "the user deserves to lose their life's work over a simple mistake", then I don't see any value in keeping that particular "philosophy" alive. [Bug 360228] Re: notify-osd blur the image, not the background
Same thing here, and it's very annoying ! After some observations, I think it comes from a resize problem: the notification seems to allocate a static size for thumbnails, and those are automatically stretched to fill a kind of square → no consideration for the original size or even ratio of the thumbnail.
