Bug#748314: kde-runtime-data: kuiserver parse initrd at each kde startup
Package: kde-runtime-data Version: 4:4.12.4-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, Dear Maintainer, kuiserver parse initrd at each kde startup AND output errors in [/var/log/] syslog, user.log and messages. This can be seen as not critical, but the critical problem is in the log output. While parsing initrd is totally useless and slow down the system a bit, the log output is the problem that makes the system unusable. Because it output one line per "character" fond in initrd file. In a few days and some reboot or logout / login my little hard drive was full. I've already search in kde's bug system and forums (and googling a bit too) but found nothing related. Search was made with keywords kuiserver, initrd and $ I've also checked my config (.config, .local and .kde) and found nothing. * What led up to the situation? update to last kde packages and systemd * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? nothing My best to the team Xavier (zeroheure) -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.14-1-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kde-runtime-data depends on: ii perl 5.18.2-4 kde-runtime-data recommends no packages. kde-runtime-data suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#801501: More info and workaround
Hi all, I've found a workaround that works: if suspend is forced with "pm-suspend" instead of using KDE menu, all works fine and there are no segfaults in logs. So I wrote this script #!/bin/bash qdbus org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver /ScreenSaver Lock sudo pm-suspend pm-suspend is declared with NOPASSWD in sudoers of course

Bug#671932: the buig is still present
After some investigate in other BTS : Plasma crash because of python-based plasmoids. Workaround : - removing plasma-scriptengine-python package and things are back to normal Upstream (Aaron Seigo) says problem is in the python binding. See : http://code.google.com/p/veromix-plasmoid/issues/detail?id=103#c7 After some tests, I confirm the bug is still present in Jessie, although plasma-desktop restart gracefully (KDE 4.11.5). Following is a comment from Nik Lutz (veromix maintainer): -- I think I experienced the same problem (in ubuntu) multiple times during updates to newer kde versions. The bug you are referring to is from 2012 and I'am sure python plasmoids worked shortly after that (else there would be more reports). According to http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kde-workspace.html there where several new package-uploads to debian testing during the last month I belive that they where built/linked against an older python version, or python-scriptengine-python was built/linked against an older version of kde. Most probably this problem gets solved during the next weeks - in the meantime you could try to build kde-workspace yourself (in case you have enough time and diskspace: apt-get source kde-workspace ; apt-get build-dep kde-workspace; cd kde-workspace ; dpkg-buildpackage -b) -- Xavier -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#646831: can't confirm
I can't confirm this using kde 4.11.5 on Jessie I've tested on one randowly web page from www.lupa.cz during 30 minutes using webkit engine. While it's true that konqueror's memory consumption vary, it actually grow and decrease because of the web site. But never more than 30% of the memory on a Pentium 4 with 768 MB of memory. Note that iceweasel use more memory than konqueror! In my opinion this bug can be closed because : - it refer to an old version - no more report about this for 3 years now - current version works well -- Xavier -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#704482: related bug report in kde
This bug report in kde BTS is about the same problem https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044 Comment #18 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044#c18 says the problem is adressed by "please wait" notification in the USB widget. All comments says that the sync problem is intended behavior in Linux / Unix. However, there is many duplicates reports, and Kde devs take this seriously because it's a user experience problem (rather than a bug). I will test the "please wait" notification. Bug#705786: disagree...
Hello I disagree. There is no reason to add such very specific and advanced shortcut in a tool that is supposed to be used by normal users. I too add my own shortcuts to Konqueror because it is what advanced users are supposed to do. Current Debian shortcuts are all related to packages (package and backport search, bug reports search), which looks reasonable for normal users. Even Kde shortcuts are all around normal and advanced users, not programmers or techcrunch sysadmins. -- Xavier / zeroheure -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#898696: akonadi: Akonadi enter in a loop because it can't read account password
Package: libkf5mailtransportakonadi5 Version: 17.12.3-1 Severity: normal File: akonadi Dear Maintainer, One IMAP Akonadi agent try forever, without success, to read the password from Kwallet. All passwords are stored in kwallet, which is setup to allways give access on request. Launching Akonadiconsole show message like "Can't read password. User has rejected Kwallet access for this Agent." (which I haven't). It allways happens at the session launch. But sometimes nothing happens for the entire day. The bug begins after last major update. I tried without success to : - disabling email checking for this IMAP account (even after Akonadi or session restart) ; - erasing password : Akonadi ask for the password and then try forever to read it ; - restarting Akonadi ; - restarting session. The emails are all stored locally for offline reading. Launching Kmail, I can read and browse emails from this "faulty" account. Just in case, the IMAP account is from free.fr, the two others are from gmail and OVH. Furthermore : - I would expect Akonadi to not try to connect if email checking is disabled. - The whole KDE desktop became unusable as all menus and pop-up flickers on access. All mouse clicks on menus are silently rejected. Fortunatly, I have direct access to terminal icon. Bug#495934: konq-plugins conflicts with kde-i18n

How is this a solution? > > Surely either kde-i18n or konq-plugins need packaged properly because they > should both be able to be installed on the same system at once, no? Translations for KDE4 are provided by the kde-l10n-* packages, kde-i18n-* are the KDE3 ones. During KDE3, konq-plugins were part of kdeaddons, so the old translation packages ship translations for it. Now, konq-plugins are in extragear (not official KDE) and ship their own translations in the package because they are not in kde-l10n-* As KDE3 and KDE4 are not meant to be co-installable, this is not an issue to me : you can install konq-plugins and kde-l10n-* without problem. -- Xavier Vello -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Since the definition is wrapped in a #ifndef QT_NO_CAST_ASCII, it seems like having that defined while building could cause your build failure. ... Bug#275457: beginning of a solution
Hello, I've found that removing the file kontactrc from ~/.kde/share/config corrects the problem for the next kontact session. However, the problem reappears on the next start of kontact. Regards, X. -- Xavier Raynaud http://aeranthes.dyndns.org pgpWvU3JBL4bv.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#238182: A fix proposal for bug #238182 (kdm auto-login fails)
Hi, This bug is discussed here : http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68331 Following the instructions, I edited /etc/pam.d/kdm-np and replaced its first line : @include common-auth with : auth required pam_permit.so There may be a cleaner way to change this, I'm not a pam expert. Xavier
Bug#240027: KDM does not start correctly on boot
The problem is that kdm_config blocks when reading /dev/random. AFAIK, the kernel entropy pool is fed with random events coming from disk seeks, keyboard input and mouse motions. When the entropy pool is empty, read accesses to /dev/random will block. Therefore, on a diskless workstation, kdm_config (and kdm which is waiting for its child to complete) will block until someone types something on the keyboard. /dev/urandom is considered less secure than /dev/random (man 4 random), but never blocks. As a fix for this kind of situation, in the [General] part of /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc, put : RandomDevice=/dev/urandom To save diskless workstation users from having headaches when using kdm, I suggest that the kdm package maintainer put this line (maybe commented out for security reasons) in the default kdmrc. Xavier
Bug#240027: kdm: KDM does not start correctly on boot
Dominique Devriese wrote: Chris Cheney writes: I wonder how DEV_RANDOM is getting set to /dev/random, the Imakefile doesn't mention /dev/random at all. A grep of kdebase for /dev/random turns up nothing for me, but it must be getting set somehow. :< Yes, well, what I've noticed yesterday, is that the configure runs "xmkmf" on the Imakefile, which generates a Makefile, which contains the DEV_RANDOM define in question. So it is xmkmf which is told by the Imakefile to put the define there. I have no idea how this is supposed to work though, so we're going to have to dig up the imake manual, I guess :) Imakefile defines RANDOM_DEFINES to be '-DDEV_RANDOM="/dev/urandom"' only if RandomDefines is not set. xmkmf is called with -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config. Therefore, among others, the file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/X11.tmpl is parsed and unfortunately defines RandomDefines to be '-DDEV_RANDOM="/dev/random" -DPOLL_DEV_RANDOM' Calling xmkmf with -DRandomDeviceFile=/dev/urandom fixes the problem. Another way could be to put the line #define RandomDeviceFile "/dev/urandom" in one of the various config files used by imake, like site.def But actually, I don't know precisely how to include this in all that autoconf stuff Xavier
Bug#242641: kdm does not obey pam_limits
Actually, Kees is right, this a kdm issue. I checked kdebase-3.2.1/kdm/backend/client.c and, at line 1142, there are two function calls whose return value is not used : pam_set_item (pamh, PAM_CONV, &pconv); /* XXX this can fail */ pam_open_session (pamh, 0); /* XXX this can fail, too */ (if I judge by the XXX comments, the author seems aware that something remains to be done) I changed these two lines to : if ((pretc=pam_set_item (pamh, PAM_CONV, &pconv) != PAM_SUCCESS) || (pretc=pam_open_session (pamh, 0) != PAM_SUCCESS )) { LogError ("Unable to open session for user %s : %s", curuser, pam_strerror (pamh, pretc)); return 0; } Then, kdm complies with the settings in limits.conf (actually, i've done only one test with maxlogins). Although there is no warning window to inform the user (something to add later, imho), user login is denied as expected. The LogError line doesn't seem to work and I'm not familiar enough with KDE internals to know why (I've just copied and modified a similar line earlier in the file). Xavier
