Dear Maintainer,

When opening CSV files, Calligrasheets CSVfilter fails and says "not
installed". Reason is that mimetype is set on application/x-kspread

..Xsession-error file report:
sheets(4945)/csvfilter CSVFilter::convert: Invalid document mimetype

Bug#748314: kde-runtime-data: kuiserver parse initrd at each kde startup

2014-05-15 Thread xavier
Package: kde-runtime-data
Version: 4:4.12.4-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear Maintainer,

Dear Maintainer,

kuiserver parse initrd at each kde startup AND output errors in [/var/log/]
syslog, user.log and messages.
This can be seen as not critical, but the critical problem is in the log output.
While parsing initrd is totally useless and slow down the system a bit, the log
output is the problem that makes the system unusable.
Because it output one line per "character" fond in initrd file. In a few days
and some reboot or logout / login my little hard drive was full.

I've already search in kde's bug system and forums (and googling a bit too) but
found nothing related. Search was made with keywords kuiserver, initrd and $
I've also checked my config (.config, .local and .kde) and found nothing.

   * What led up to the situation?

update to last kde packages and systemd

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

nothing

My best to the team
Xavier (zeroheure)

Hi Lisandro,

same problem with sddm, but segfault occurs later (more than 1 minute
after resume). I found other logs: when a KDE session is opened, _and
only in this case_, the screen flashes as soon the computer resumes.
nouveau/kwin seem involved:

Oct 11 23:05:40 mac-debian kernel: [ 144.724915] nouveau
E[kwin_x11[1511]] fail set_domain

Oct 11 23:05:40 mac-debian kernel: [ 144.762183] nouveau

Each group of 3 lines appears to correspond to a blink.

Note that before upgrade to testing, the computer worked perfectly.

Regards,
Xavier

I've posted /var/log/messages here : https://paste.debian.net/315556/
How can I generate a backtrace ?

Yes, too many errors since upgrade :-(

Bug#801501: More info and workaround

2015-10-20 Thread Xavier
Hi all,

I've found a workaround that works: if suspend is forced with
"pm-suspend" instead of using KDE menu, all works fine and there are
no segfaults in logs.

So I wrote this script

#!/bin/bash
qdbus org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver /ScreenSaver Lock
sudo pm-suspend

pm-suspend is declared with NOPASSWD in sudoers of course

Bug#664898: this report can be closed

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard

I suggest to close because :
- This was reported upstream as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=279665
- Upstream fixed it in 4.8, so it's fixed for jessie

There's also good workarounds mentionned here.

Bug#671932: the buig is still present

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard
After some investigate in other BTS :

Plasma crash because of python-based plasmoids.

Workaround :
- removing plasma-scriptengine-python package and things are back to normal

Upstream (Aaron Seigo) says problem is in the python binding. See :
http://code.google.com/p/veromix-plasmoid/issues/detail?id=103#c7

After some tests, I confirm the bug is still present in Jessie, although
plasma-desktop restart gracefully (KDE 4.11.5).

Note that plasma-widget-veromix is the only debian packages depending on
python.

I will request some help from Nik Lutz about this (he is maintainer of veromix
package and veromix developper).

Bug#671932: bug to be closed soon

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard
Following is a comment from Nik Lutz (veromix maintainer):

--
I think I experienced the same problem (in ubuntu) multiple times
during updates to newer kde versions. The bug you are referring to is
from 2012 and I'am sure python plasmoids worked shortly after that
(else there would be more reports).

According to http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kde-workspace.html there
where several new package-uploads to debian testing during the last
month I belive that they where built/linked against an older python
version, or python-scriptengine-python was built/linked against an
older version of kde.

Most probably this problem gets solved during the next weeks - in the
meantime you could try to build kde-workspace yourself (in case you
have enough time and diskspace: apt-get source kde-workspace ; apt-get
build-dep kde-workspace; cd kde-workspace ; dpkg-buildpackage -b)

Bug#646831: can't confirm

2014-05-04 Thread Xavier Brochard
I can't confirm this using kde 4.11.5 on Jessie

I've tested on one randowly web page from www.lupa.cz during 30 minutes using
webkit engine.

While it's true that konqueror's memory consumption vary, it actually grow and
decrease because of the web site. But never more than 30% of the memory on a
Pentium 4 with 768 MB of memory. Note that iceweasel use more memory than
konqueror!

In my opinion this bug can be closed because :
- it refer to an old version
- no more report about this for 3 years now
- current version works well

Bug#704482: related bug report in kde

2014-05-05 Thread Xavier Brochard

This bug report in kde BTS is about the same problem
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044

Comment #18 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195044#c18
says the problem is adressed by "please wait" notification in the USB widget.

All comments says that the sync problem is intended behavior in Linux / Unix.
However, there is many duplicates reports, and Kde devs take this seriously
because it's a user experience problem (rather than a bug).

I will test the "please wait" notification. If it works, I suggest we close
this bug.

Bug#705786: disagree...

2014-05-05 Thread Xavier Brochard
Hello

I disagree. There is no reason to add such very specific and advanced shortcut
in a tool that is supposed to be used by normal users.
I too add my own shortcuts to Konqueror because it is what advanced users are
supposed to do.
Current Debian shortcuts are all related to packages (package and backport
search, bug reports search), which looks reasonable for normal users. Even Kde
shortcuts are all around normal and advanced users, not programmers or
techcrunch sysadmins.

Could you provide more informations ?
Did you change anything in Dolphin config ? And in places ?
Can you test this on a brand new account ?
Can you install a different language file just for testing ?

Did you check in Kde BTS if there is similar reports?

Bug#779276: kdelibs5-plugins: a reference to hebrew hspell dictionary is hardcoded in /usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so

2015-02-26 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: kdelibs5-plugins
Version: 4:4.14.2-5
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Akonadi is allways reporting the following error message:
"Hspell: can't open /usr/share/hspell/hebrew.wgz.sizes"

Actually, this file path is hardcoded in the binary
/usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so

I've made some search in source files. My results may be totally unrelated but
as I know nothing about C++ I give them :

1. in Sonnet's source code there is something related to hebrew numbers. See
source in
https://projects.kde.org/projects/frameworks/sonnet/repository/revisions/master/entry/src/plugins/hspell/hspelldict.cpp

2. in file [kde4libs_4.14.2-5.debian.tar.xz] there is a lintian override ;
kdelibs5-plugins.lintian-overrides contain the string :
"kdelibs5-plugins: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/lib/kde4/kspell_hspell.so"

Thanks for all the work you are doing.
Xavier

Bug#801501: libqt5sql5: libQt5 segfault when computer resumes from standby

2015-10-11 Thread Xavier Guimard
Package: libqt5sql5
Version: 5.4.2+dfsg-9
Severity: normal

Hi all,

When my laptop (MacBook AIr) resumes from standby, KDE crashes if it was
opened before standby. No problem when kdm is closed. If session is
closed but kdm open, sometimes it works fine, sometimes not.
Looking logs, I found each time the following line in kern.log:

[ 948.387826] kactivitymanage[1515]: segfault at 7f458c022cd0 ip
7f458695f1b1 sp 7ffd92065b18 error 4 in

I had a look at #796708, but patch seems not to be compliant with
testing/unstable version

Xavier

Bug#898696: akonadi: Akonadi enter in a loop because it can't read account password

2018-05-15 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: libkf5mailtransportakonadi5
Version: 17.12.3-1
Severity: normal
File: akonadi

Dear Maintainer,

One IMAP Akonadi agent try forever, without success, to read the password from
Kwallet. All passwords are stored in kwallet, which is setup to allways give
access on request.
Launching Akonadiconsole show message like "Can't read password. User has
rejected Kwallet access for this Agent." (which I haven't).
It allways happens at the session launch. But sometimes nothing happens for the
entire day.
The bug begins after last major update.
I tried without success to :
- disabling email checking for this IMAP account (even after Akonadi or session
restart) ;
- erasing password : Akonadi ask for the password and then try forever to read
it ;
- restarting Akonadi ;
- restarting session.

The emails are all stored locally for offline reading.
Launching Kmail, I can read and browse emails from this "faulty" account.

Just in case, the IMAP account is from free.fr, the two others are from gmail
and OVH.

Furthermore :
- I would expect Akonadi to not try to connect if email checking is disabled.
- The whole KDE desktop became unusable as all menus and pop-up flickers on
access. All mouse clicks on menus are silently rejected. Fortunatly, I have
direct access to terminal icon. I'm not using wayland.

Bug#814715: okular: Use mupdf as backend for a faster rendering

2016-02-14 Thread Xavier Cremaschi

Package: okular
Version: 4:15.08.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

Okular is very slow on my old computer, while mupdf isn't. According to
what I see on the web, mupdf can be used as backend engine for Okular
instead of poppler (?). It could be great to have this option available.

Bug#1051855: plasma-workspace-wallpapers: Other similar packages are named with "background"

2023-09-13 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: plasma-workspace-wallpapers
Version: 4:5.27.5-2

Dear Maintainer,

This package name is hard to guess because its name is different than other
similar packages (gnome-backgrounds, sway-backgrounds, mate-backgrounds and so
on).
The package is also hard to find, because the only package depending on it is
kde-full.

May be a fake or meta package named "kde-background" could help ?

Bug#977682: okular: Okular can't print Postscript files without cups-filter package installed

2020-12-18 Thread Xavier Brochard
Package: okular
Version: 4:20.12.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm using a network based cups printing without cups server on localhost
(cups-client and cups-daemon are setup on my local computer, while cups-server
is on the network).
While text based printing works well (web page from Firefox, LibreOffice
document, text loaded in Okular), I can't print pdf files from Okular because
of this lpr error :
Unsupported document-format "application/postscript"
Printing with qpdf works well.

Installing cups-filter package solve the issue.

Best regards

Hello

kdebase-workspace 4:4.1.0-2 has been uploaded for amd64 but not i386 yes. You
have to wait a day or two for it to autobuild and be available.
This is not a bug, please close it.

Hello

Can't reproduce the bug on 4:4.1.0-2.
Try removing ~/.kde4/share/apps/ksysguard/SystemLoad.sgrd , it may have gotten
corrupt. You can also try removing and reinstalling the ksysguard package if
it doesn't work.

~/.kde4/share/config/ksysguardrc for a fresh start.

Hard disks aren't perfect, think of bad sectors :)
dpkg has a md5 checksum check builtin, but it may have been corrupted
afterwards. Even if it's low probability, it's good to try it.

The kdeplasmoids[-data] packages have been renamed to kdeplasma-addons[-data]
in 4.1 (upstream). These new packages conflict/replace kdeplasmoids[-data] and
are required by the kde4 meta-package, the recommended installation method.
(By the way, you should install them to get more plasmoids)

In unstable/testing, we would have added a transition package, but
experimental is meant to be broken :)
Sorry for the inconvenience anyway.

Hello

The KIO being in the recoll source package is no big deal. You can split the
source package in several packages, with kio-recoll depending in kdelibs5
and not the rest.

You can join #debian-qt-kde on irc.debian.org to discuss it in detail.

automake1.10 is a virtual package provided by automake (>=1:1.10)
Is it forbidden to depend on virtual packages ?

The Qt/KDE team packages several non-qt software which are depends for KDE
(see http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-kde/krap/). libfem is necessary for step
(from kdeedu), that's why we packaged it.
We are ok to give the package to the scicomp team if they want to maintain it,

Translations for KDE4 are provided by the kde-l10n-* packages, kde-i18n-* are
the KDE3 ones. During KDE3, konq-plugins were part of kdeaddons, so the old
translation packages ship translations for it. Now, konq-plugins are
in extragear
(not official KDE) and ship their own translations in the package because they
are not in kde-l10n-*

As KDE3 and KDE4 are not meant to be co-installable, this is not an issue to
me : you can install konq-plugins and kde-l10n-* without problem.

akonadi needs /usr/sbin/mysqld provided by the mysql-server-* packages,
and runs it with a custom configuration. There is no automatic way to use the
system-wide mysql, but you are free to code one and include it upstream.

About having two mysqld running, this is because the mysql-server-* packages
launch it by default. There is nothing the pkg-kde team can do about it, feel
free to bug the mysql packaging team to get a package installing
/usr/sbin/mysqld without the init scripts.

I found the dependancy chain :

akonadi-server -> mysql-server-5.0 -> mailx -> bsd-mailx -> exim4 | mail-
transport-agent

You can install an alternative to exim providing the "mail-transport-agent"
virtual package, like ssmtp or nullmailer

I admit I should have done at least a versionned close.
With the imminent release of lenny and KDE4 in sid next month, the odds of a
kdepim3 upload to unstable are near to zero, that's why I chose to close this
one.
Do you think it should be handled otherwise ?

The svn packaging for kde3 has the right homepage field, see
http://svn.debian.org:80/viewsvn/pkg-kde/trunk/packages/kdepim/

If a kdepim3 upload were to be made, the fix would be uploaded.

Bug#516229: kmail: Allow to choose which mails are counted in global new mails count

2009-02-20 Thread Xavier Vello
Hello

> Please provide a way to tell kmail which folder you want to count new

This feature is already implemented in kmail. To ignore a folder in the global
count, uncheck the "Act on new/unread mail in this folder" in the folder's
properties.

For your information, such feature requests should be addressed directly to
KDE (via bugs.kde.org), we are not adding new features, just fixing bugs and
integration with the distribution.

This is either a disk error or a filesystem inconsistency (found a bug in the
kernel, yay ^^). You should monitor your harddisk with SMART just in case it
is a hardware failure.

Good idea, I'd like to help on such a klassroom if you need. But I think we
need more work in bug triaging / fixing / testing than packaging (the big
work is already done). But I don't speak for the whole team.

Can you please tell me what wiki page you are talking about ?

To upload to the Debian archive, you must go through a Debian Developer
(who will sponsor the upload). We have some in the team if it's necessary to
upload.

I think we should meet on IRC (xve...@freenode or w...@debian, or directly on
#debian-qt-...@debian) to discuss further how it can be done.

Hello

I think it's a great idea. I'd be glad to participate in both ways.
Debian-qt-kde needs a cleanup too (especially triaging kde3-specific bugs and

If it's a Qt bug, we should assign it to the qt4 package.
Can you please tell me which version of qt package
triggered the bug and which corrected it ?

If you can, please test with 4.6.0 from experimental.

Hello

We as Debian packagers won't develop such a new feature. I linked this
bug to a similar wish present on the KDE bugtracker (bugs.kde.org).

For other new feature wishes, please file your wish directly in bugs.kde.org

In the meantime, you can use gsynaptics. Even if it doesn't integrate well in
the KDE workspace, it works and (if I recall correctly) can restore settings
on startup.

Hello

First, the recommend should be put on the kdebase-workspace-bin package, as
the component responsible for power management is powerdevil (in kdebase-
workspace) and not plasma (which is just an interface to the daemon).

I agree that /etc/init.d/loadcpufreq is in the cpufrequtils package and is the
easier way to ensure the governor modules are loaded, although powerdevil
doesn't use /usr/bin/cpufreq*

What version of hal do you have ? (you can get it with `apt-cache policy hal`)
There is a know incompatibility between kde 4.3.4-1 and hal 0.5.14, but
4.3.4-2 should fix it.

Could you somehow have QT_NO_CAST_ASCII defined while building? Looking in
qstring.h, it should be using this operator+ on line 1050:

inline const QString operator+( const char *s1, const QString &s2 )

Your build doesn't appear to be finding that, though. Since the definition is
wrapped in a #ifndef QT_NO_CAST_ASCII, it seems like having that defined
while building could cause your build failure.

...

A quick grep -r through the kdenetwork sources shows that this appears to be
defined in all the kopete Makefile.am's and Makefile.in's, but not in any
other kdenetwork packages. So, I wonder how the buildd's built it?

kdebase-kio-plugins is not sid installable

2007-07-27 Thread xavier . gnata
Hi,

I'm quite sure it is only a transition so I'm not using the BTS.
Anyway, konqueror is not sid installable because it depends on
kdebase-kio-plugins wich depends on libopenexr2c2a but
apt-get install kdebase-kio-plugins
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdebase-kio-plugins: Depends: libopenexr2c2a (>= 1.2.2) but it is not going to
be installed

and
apt-get install libopenexr2c2a
want to
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 208 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
ie remove all the k* apps installed.

Bug#275457: beginning of a solution

2004-10-20 Thread Xavier Raynaud
Hello,

I've found that removing the file kontactrc from ~/.kde/share/config corrects
the problem for the next kontact session.
However, the problem reappears on the next start of kontact.

Regards,
X.

Bug#238182: A fix proposal for bug #238182 (kdm auto-login fails)

2004-03-23 Thread Xavier Hienne

Hi,

This bug is discussed here :
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68331

Following the instructions, I edited /etc/pam.d/kdm-np and replaced its
first line :

  @include common-auth
with :
  auth required pam_permit.so

There may be a cleaner way to change this, I'm not a pam expert.

Bug#240027: KDM does not start correctly on boot

2004-04-01 Thread Xavier Hienne

The problem is that kdm_config blocks when reading /dev/random.

AFAIK, the kernel entropy pool is fed with random events coming from
disk seeks, keyboard input and mouse motions. When the entropy pool is
empty, read accesses to /dev/random will block. Therefore, on a diskless
workstation, kdm_config (and kdm which is waiting for its child to
complete) will block until someone types something on the keyboard.

/dev/urandom is considered less secure than /dev/random (man 4 random),
but never blocks.

As a fix for this kind of situation, in the [General] part of
/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc, put :

RandomDevice=/dev/urandom

To save diskless workstation users from having headaches when using kdm,
I suggest that the kdm package maintainer put this line (maybe commented
out for security reasons) in the default kdmrc.

Bug#240027: kdm: KDM does not start correctly on boot

2004-04-11 Thread Xavier Hienne

Dominique Devriese wrote:

Chris Cheney writes:

I wonder how DEV_RANDOM is getting set to /dev/random, the Imakefile
doesn't mention /dev/random at all. A grep of kdebase for
/dev/random turns up nothing for me, but it must be getting set
somehow. :<

Yes, well, what I've noticed yesterday, is that the configure runs
"xmkmf" on the Imakefile, which generates a Makefile, which contains
the DEV_RANDOM define in question. So it is xmkmf which is told by
the Imakefile to put the define there. I have no idea how this is
supposed to work though, so we're going to have to dig up the imake
manual, I guess :)

Imakefile defines RANDOM_DEFINES to be '-DDEV_RANDOM="/dev/urandom"'
only if RandomDefines is not set.

xmkmf is called with -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config. Therefore, among
others, the file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/X11.tmpl is parsed and
unfortunately defines RandomDefines to be '-DDEV_RANDOM="/dev/random"
-DPOLL_DEV_RANDOM'

Calling xmkmf with -DRandomDeviceFile=/dev/urandom fixes the problem.
Another way could be to put the line

#define RandomDeviceFile "/dev/urandom"
in one of the various config files used by imake, like site.def

But actually, I don't know precisely how to include this in all that
autoconf stuff

Bug#242641: kdm does not obey pam_limits

2004-04-20 Thread Xavier Hienne

Actually, Kees is right, this a kdm issue.

I checked kdebase-3.2.1/kdm/backend/client.c and, at line 1142, there
are two function calls whose return value is not used :

 pam_set_item (pamh, PAM_CONV, &pconv); /* XXX this can fail */
pam_open_session (pamh, 0); /* XXX this can fail, too */

(if I judge by the XXX comments, the author seems aware that something
remains to be done)

I changed these two lines to :
 if ((pretc=pam_set_item (pamh, PAM_CONV, &pconv) != PAM_SUCCESS)
 || (pretc=pam_open_session (pamh, 0) != PAM_SUCCESS )) {
LogError ("Unable to open session for user %s : %s", curuser,
 pam_strerror (pamh, pretc));
 return 0;
 }

Then, kdm complies with the settings in limits.conf (actually, i've done
only one test with maxlogins). Although there is no warning window to
inform the user (something to add later, imho), user login is denied as
expected.

The LogError line doesn't seem to work and I'm not familiar enough with
KDE internals to know why (I've just copied and modified a similar line
earlier in the file).
