Bug#605930: okular: Focus should be consistent with user's WM choice
Package: okular Version: 4:4.4.5-2 Severity: wishlist In Unix, all window managers allow you to choose something like "focus under mouse" vs. "click to focus". Okular (and any number of other programs) seems always to use "click to focus" to select between e.g. the navigation frame and the document frame. This leads to surprises when a habituated user clicks in the TOC to go to a section within a document, then moves the mouse to the document and starts pressing PgDown to scroll. I suppose the "right" way to do this would probably be to ask the window manager for the user's preference, but AFAIK there's no window manager standard for exporting this feature. Would it be possible to add to Okular one of the following? 1) Ask whether a couple of the most popular window managers are running, and if it's one you recognise, use its focus preference, and if it's not, go on to (2)? 2) Add the option in Settings? Omega) Develop a standard that would let window managers export this information. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages okular depends on: ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.4.5-1runtime components from the offici ii libc6 2.11.2-7 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libfreetype62.4.2-2.1FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-9GCC support library ii libjpeg62 6b1-1The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkdecore5 4:4.4.5-2the KDE Platform Core Library ii libkdeui5 4:4.4.5-2the KDE Platform User Interface Li ii libkio5 4:4.4.5-2the Network-enabled File Managemen ii libkparts4 4:4.4.5-2the Framework for the KDE Platform ii libkpty44:4.4.5-2the Pseudo Terminal Library for th ii libkutils4 4:4.4.5-2various utility classes for the KD ii libokularcore1 4:4.4.5-2libraries for the Okular document ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 the core library of the Phonon mul ii libpoppler-qt4-30.12.4-1.2 PDF rendering library (Qt 4 based ii libqca2 2.0.2-1 libraries for the Qt Cryptographic ii libqimageblitz4 1:0.0.6-2QImageBlitz image effects library ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.3-4Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-svg 4:4.6.3-4Qt 4 SVG module ii libqt4-xml 4:4.6.3-4Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.3-4Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.3-4Qt 4 GUI module ii libspectre1 0.2.6-1 Library for rendering PostScript d ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii phonon 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 metapackage for the Phonon multime ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime okular recommends no packages. Bug#494566: kcontrol: Desktop background wallpaperer smart autofit option
Package: kcontrol Version: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-5 Severity: wishlist Sorry, I cannot figure out how to discover which package is responsible for "Appearance & Themes / Background". Is this right? Apologies for my aim. With the advent of widescreen monitors, there is a need for smarter wallpaper resizing. Wallpaper slideshows will probably tend to be collections of personal photos, which are either 4x3 (point and shoot) or 3x2 (SLR), any of which may be cropped. But of course they will also commonly be 3x4 and 2x3 (ie. portrait-mode). The traditional 4x3 displays handle one of these perfectly, leaving the other 3 (and odd crops) out in the cold, and today's widescreen (eg. 1680x1050 (8x5)) displays handle nothing well. I propose adding a wallpaper fit option that looks like this: if ( the photo's aspect ratio is within x of the screen's ) scale & crop else centered maxpect end The result for smallish values of x will be that landscape-mode photos fill the screen with minimal loss, and portrait-mode photos are shown complete. I believe that this is a reasonable option. Bug#527287: systemsettings: Standard Keyboard Shortcuts is a cancer
Package: systemsettings Version: 4:4.2.2-2 Severity: normal systemsettings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Standard Keyboard Shortcuts: I am trying to delete some shortcuts. I click on a shortcut, and what appears to be the upper left corner of something that might be intended to look like a window-within-the-window appears. It contains radiobuttons for "Default" and "Custom". Say I want to clear the custom setting: * I click on the icon that looks like a pencil and paper (what a bizarre choice of icon to represent erasing something!). * I click on the "Custom" radio button (why this wasn't done automatically when I messed with "Custom" settings I know not). * Now it says "None" but there is no obvious way to ask the application to absorb my input. I press "enter" with the hope that the window-within-a-window will disappear and that my new entry will be accepted. OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR: All the settings are duplicated once. Having tried this 3 times, I now have 4 "Forward"s, 4 "Fit to Page Height"s, etc... for every action. And the stupid windowy-thing is still there, but now its text is rendered over the text of the menu behind, making it very difficult to read. To make matters worse, Alt-F2 isn't listed as a shortcut for anything, but KDE clearly traps it, as it isn't doing what I asked it to do, but rather opening a "Run" popup instead. Bug#527291: systemsettings: Alt+F2 has gone rogue!
Package: systemsettings Version: 4:4.2.2-2 Severity: normal The keyboard shortcut Alt-F2 is not listed anywhere I'd expect. I would like to turn it off (it arrogantly overrides a shortcut that I have asked Sawfish to use) but it's not under System Settings - Keyboard & Mouse and I can't think where else it would be. Bug#538874: kdebase: kde panel fails to autohide after plugging in a device
Package: kdebase Version: 4:4.2.4-1 Severity: normal This bug is against the kde panel. I'm sorry but I do not know what package is responsible for that--there's no more "kicker", no debian kde package matches "*panel*", and there's no "About" item in the panel menu. Perhaps lack of identifiability is another bug? Anyway. My panel is set to autohide. But if I plug in or unplug a device, then a little box pops up saying so. The problem: this box pops up in a random virtual desktop (I'm using Sawfish), and is impossible to find without flipping through them all. Moreover, as long as that box exists, the panel will not autohide. So the panel stays up, covering the bottoms of my windows, until I manually flip through all of my virtual desktops, find the "device plugged in" box, and pass the mouse through it, go back to my original window, and pass the mouse in and out of the panel. Expected behaviour: (1) don't make the device box require the panel be visible. (2) make sure that the device box pops up in the current desktop, or all desktops? (3) alternatively, let me disable the device popup. systemsettings doesn't make it obvious how to do that. Improper usage of Reply-To header - Debian Bug #639455
Hi Aleksey, Moments ago you actioned a change to Debian Bug #639455. In your email to make this change, you included a Reply-To header, set to the kde general user support mailing list, k...@mail.kde.org. Mail concerning this bug report is off topic for that mailing list, as it relates to a specific distribution, and isn't itself a user support query. If you could please refrain from including this header in future mails to Debian bugs that would be appreciated. Regards, Ben Cooksley KDE Sysadmin
Bug#803523: kmix: Should kill competing volume applet
Package: kmix Version: 4:15.08.1-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Since I upgraded to KDE5, there is another volume applet in the system tray. I don't know where it is coming from, it just says "Plasma" when I try xwininfo. I don't want to use the other one, because kmix is so much better (for example, per application volume controls, which I use a lot). The other audio applet can be *hidden* in the system tray options (under Extra Items), but still appears to be handling volume-key presses, often leading to race conditions (e.g. one application thinks the press was held long enough to change the volume 20%, then the other detects it and tries to change it 5%, but actually sets it *back* 15%). Please figure out where the inferior volume control applet is coming from, and ensure that it dies whenever kmix is available. Package: libqt5gui5 Version: 5.5.1+dfsg-5 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, In all Qt applications, pressing nearly any shortcut does not perform the requested action. Instead, it just pops up a box saying "ambiguous shortcut detected". This is caused by the fact that, by default, the primary and alternate keybindings are set to the same key sequence. Bug#803612: libqt5gui5: "ambiguous shortcut" regression
Among others, it happens in Kate (but it is not KDE-specific, it happens in pure Qt applications too, I just can't think of one off the top of my head that everyone is likely to have installed). Press Ctrl-N, receive a popup instead of a new file: (title) Ambiguous Shortcut Detected — Kate The key sequence 'Ctrl+N' is ambiguous. Use 'Configure Shortcuts' from the 'Settings' menu to solve the ambiguity. No action will be triggered. Go to Settings -> Configure shortcuts, search for "new" Set alternate shortcut to "custom - None". Ctrl-N now works. bad kate package: 4:15.08.2-1 (stretch/sid) good kate package: 4:4.14.2-2 (jessie - can be easily downgraded) On further investigation, the Qt4 version of kate had the alternate shortcut set to None by default instead of a duplicate of the primary shortcut like the Qt5 version does. -Ben On Sun, Nov 1, 2015 at 9:47 AM, Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote: > tag 803612 moreinfo unreproducible > thanks > > On Saturday 31 October 2015 12:58:49 Ben Longbons wrote: >> Package: libqt5gui5 >> Version: 5.5.1+dfsg-5 >> Severity: important >> >> Dear Maintainer, >> >> In all Qt applications, pressing nearly any shortcut does not perform >> the requested action. Bug#803612: libqt5gui5: "ambiguous shortcut" regression
A fresh user does not reproduce by default, but with a little help from strace I managed to find a way to reproduce what's happening with my main user. Edit the file ~/.config/kdeglobals, and add or replace the following lines: [Shortcuts] New=Ctrl+N; Ctrl+N (This is visible in systemsettings5 as Standard Shortcuts, but the UI will prevent *setting* a conflict there now) Then all Qt (not just KDE! Does Qt have some plugin mechanism perhaps?) applications will read this file and conflict whenever you try to create a new file. Obviously some previous version of Qt (or even KDE) was buggy in that it was capable of generating the config file with these contents. But the current version of Qt remains buggy in that it is willing to *read* such a file without discarding the duplicate. -Ben On Mon, Nov 2, 2015 at 8:33 AM, Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote: > On Sunday 01 November 2015 14:28:08 Ben Longbons wrote: >> Among others, it happens in Kate (but it is not KDE-specific, it >> happens in pure Qt applications too, I just can't think of one off the >> top of my head that everyone is likely to have installed). >> >> Press Ctrl-N, receive a popup instead of a new file: >> >> (title) Ambiguous Shortcut Detected — Kate >> The key sequence 'Ctrl+N' is ambiguous. Hi, > Maybe upgrades aren't handled properly. I'm CCing Ben. The material from the old kontact-plugins package is now part of kontact. Kontact has the correct Replaces: line; since it replaces the kontact-plugins package completely I assume it needs a Conflicts: as well? CCing the kontact maintainers. Bug#292997: /usr/lib/kde3/kcm_kontactknt.so is also in package kontact
Hi ho, > Uhm, when a package disappears (kontact-plugins), Replaces should be > enough. My understanding is that Replaces is used when some files move from one package to another (as happens all the time with kdelibs, base, office, etc), whereas Conflicts/Replaces is used when one package completely replaces another (as is the case here). A rereading of policy confirms my belief in this. At any rate: why are you opposed to adding the Conflicts? I don't see how it can possibly hurt in any way. Reassigning kteatime bug to kdelibs
reassign 271262 kdelibs4 retitle 271262 kdelibs4: please improve KSystemTray support for non-KDE environments thanks mate Hi. I'm uploading a new kdetoys at the moment that adds the appropriate warnings in the long description and README.Debian that, as a KDE systray applet, kteatime will quite possibly not work under other window managers / desktop environments. Having done that, I'm reassigning this to kdelibs since the problem AIUI is a general problem with the KSystemTray class. At the very least, it would be nice if a systray applet could open in a new window of its own instead of silently disappearing, or perhaps output an error in the console that the required systray support is not present. The Slider labelled "Front" is a bit of a misnomer, as it appears to be the master volume control. The problem is the system tray volume control adjusts the Headphones channel rather than master volume ("Front"). It appears this is set in Mixer_ALSA::identify when a device called "Master" is found. m_masterDevice = snd_mixer_selem_id_get_index( sid ); Since m_masterDevice is assigned 0 as default value in mixer.cpp the first device will be used as master if the ALSA driver does not provide one called "Master". Clearly this does not work for all drivers (or does this mean the driver is broken rather than kmix?) Perhaps what Kmix needs is an option for the user to select the channel that will be controlled by the systray volume control, since Kmix can't guess the correct device 100% of the time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#289646: kbabel patched
severity 289646 important thanks mate Hi. I've uploaded a new kdesdk with the s/check/checkWord/ patch, so I'm lowering the severity of this bug. I'm leaving it open however, since kbabel was in fact using the kdelibs API as documented -- in theory kbabel was doing nothing wrong, so the problem would seem to be in kdelibs (and thus still unfixed at the root of the problem).
