Bug#495999: Kcontrol administrator mode is broken and "kdesu" is missing from unstable
The kdesu executable is missing from the path in the KDE 3 version that comes with Debian Unstable, although the discussion here seems to be related to KDE 4. Here are the steps to reproduce a KControl bug (missing functionality + crash) that might be related to this: 1.Start kcontrol, preferably from a console, to see the debug output. 2.Go to "System Administration" -> "Font Installer" (alternatively you can go to any other module that has administrator tasks). 3.Press the "Administrator Mode" button on lower left. 4.Notice that there is no dialog requiring the root password, and nothing you can't reach adminstrator mode. Also, there will be some debug output in the console: "QLayout "unnamed" added to QVBox "m_body", which already has a layout". 5.Switch to another module of KControl and see it crashing. Bug#735261: mutiple upstream bugs
These kinds of problems have plagued kmail for many, many years, dating back to the beginnings of kmail2 (at least). As we can see from the numerous upstream bugs, there is also no shortage of reports (IIRC, I filed one myself for fake duplicates years ago). Perhaps upstream doesn't care, or it's really rare and difficult to reproduce or fix, I don't know. It may sound cynical, but my advice would be that if you're hit with this, change mail clients :/ In the context of freeze/release, I'd suggest to tag this jessie-ignore, or even forever-ignore. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#889180: plasma: memory leak
Package: plasma-desktop Version: 4:5.10.5-2 Severity: important File: plasma Hello, I have Debian with KDE installed in two computers. My usage of both computers is pretty much the same, with pretty much zero configuration differences between the machines. One may have different .deb package installed but they are pretty much identical (besides hardware, one being a desktop, this one being a laptop). This week I have updated both to the latest Debian testing packages so I know all KDE packages are in exacty the same versions on both computers. However, this current machine currently has a plasmashell process taking over 700MB of memory, while plasmashell in my desktop takes up around 100MB (or 150MB, can't remember) - which sounds a whole lot more reasonable. My current uptime on this laptop is 12 minutes. plasmashell keeps growing out of control for 5 to 10 minutes and apparently stabilizes at 700MB. This is certainly a bug, especially compared to normal usage on my other machine that is identical in terms of configuration and 99% of packages installed and my use of both also being very similar. Needldess to say, 700MB is a whole lot of memory being eaten up, degrading performance very noticeably, to the point where I'm installing XFCE as I write this so I can use my machine properly again until this is fixed. I know this report without more information is little to go on with but I'm just trying to make it clear there's an important issue here. Let me know which log files I should look at and how else I can help with getting the root issue identified and fixed. Thanks for the great work, I've been using KDE since I started using Linux and it's a large part of why I love the penguin OS! I'll come back to KDE as soon as this is fixed. Bug#889180: plasma: memory leak
I checked on my dekstop and plasmashell sits at around 350MB of memory use there - but that's after over 6 hours uptime, not a mere 10 minutes or so. Even then, it's using double that amount in my laptop, even when both have largely default configurations and the same version being used so it definitely seems something's amiss here. Bug#804637: kde-plasma-desktop: Should depend on kwin-x11
Package: kde-plasma-desktop Version: 5:90 Severity: normal Hello, first let me apologize if this is the wrong package for my report but I'll explain why I thought it would be. In the past I had used the kdm package as a package that would install a bare-bones KDE system on a computer. It would bring the window manager, the startup hooks and etc, without also installing every single KDE application. The kdm package is gone so I tried kde-plasma-desktop. It worked perfectly except for the fact that it didn't install the 'kwin-x11' package, which left me with a functioning plasma desktop without proper windows or window management. I can't see why someone would want a kde-plasma-desktop without KWin or X so please consider depending on that package. I can understand there could be some use cases I'm not able to see - in which case please consider using "recommends kwin-x11" or at least a x-window-manager virtual package, if that would make sense. I can understand there could be some use cases I'm not able to see - in which case please consider using "recommends kwin-x11" or at least a x-window-manager virtual package, if that would make sense. If this is absolutely the wrong package to ask for that please let me know so I can redirect it properly. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop depends on: ii kde-baseapps 4:15.08.1-1 ii kde-runtime 4:15.08.2-1 ii plasma-desktop4:5.4.2-1 ii plasma-workspace 4:5.4.2-1+b1 ii udisks2 2.1.6-2 ii upower0.99.3-1+b2 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop recommends: ii sddm 0.12.0-5 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+12 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop suggests: pn kde-l10n -- no debconf information
Bug#804638: kde-plasma-desktop: "The window switcher installation is broken"
Package: kde-plasma-desktop Version: 5:90 Severity: minor I have installed KDE via kde-plasma-desktop (plus kwin-x11) instead of kde-standard which has too many applications I don't use. This way I have more freedom over what is installed in my system. If I am doing things the wrong way please close this bug report. Otherwise: The problem is that when I go to Window Manager Settings (right-clicking on any window title bar) if I choose Task Switcher and have a visualization enabled (like Cover Switch or Flip Switch from the drop box) the next time I do an ALT+TAB I will get a message saying: The Window Switcher installation is broken, resources are missing. Contact your distribution about this. If I disable the transition effects (using the disable button to the left of the drop box) then the error no longer appears so this isn't a grave problem - probably just a missing dependency which would be nice to have fixed in order to be able to enjoy the transition effects whenever kde-plasma-desktop is installed. Please let me know if there is a better package this bug could be reported against. Thanks! -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop depends on: ii kde-baseapps 4:15.08.1-1 ii kde-runtime 4:15.08.2-1 ii plasma-desktop4:5.4.2-1 ii plasma-workspace 4:5.4.2-1+b1 ii udisks2 2.1.6-2 ii upower0.99.3-1+b2 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop recommends: ii sddm 0.12.0-5 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+12 Versions of packages kde-plasma-desktop suggests: pn kde-l10n -- no debconf information

Package: plasma-widgets-addons Version: 4:5.4.2-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: upstream Earlier versions of the fuzzy clock would let you right click and copy the current date or time in various formats to the clipboard so you could paste them easily. Thank you, I have forwarded the bugs. This one to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355189 It's usually easier to post to Debian since all you need to know is the package name - otherwise I wouldn't really know where to refer these to. Bug#808244: dolphin: Crashes randomly and frequently
Package: dolphin Version: 4:15.08.3-1 Severity: important Tags: upstream I'm sorry about opening a bug report with so little information but this is a major issue with dolphin, at least on my setup so it needs to be informed. The program crashes constanly and I can't find steps to reproduce it. The crashes always happen when I'm interacting with the application (never when it is idle in the backdround). It seems to happen more often when I am using drag-and-drop operations between split views but not only then and mostly randomly so it could be my imagination. The crashes simply close the Dolphin window without error messages except for "Segmentation fault' if it was open via a console. These messages appear on start-up but I'd guess they are not driectly related to the problem "Trying to convert empty KLocalizedString to QString." KSambaShare: Could not find smb.conf! I am using KDE5. I haven't had anything similar happen to any other KDE application like kate, kwrite or amarok. Steps to reproduce: simply use a dolphin instance for 3-5 minutes. Simply browsing the filesystem is enough for the bug to trigger eventually. As you can see this is a major usability issue. Opening a new instance will have the same results: it will work as expected for a little while then crash again. If more than one window is open only a single one will crash at a time. The other one will crash too after a little more use. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to try to narrow the issue down. All I know for sure is that dolphin is crashing constantly and reliably. I'll update this request if I notice any reproducible patterns in the future. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages dolphin depends on: ii libc6 2.19-22 ii libdolphinvcs5 4:15.08.3-1 ii libkf5baloo5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5baloowidgets515.08.0-2 ii libkf5bookmarks5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5codecs5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5completion5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5configcore5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5configgui5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5filemetadata35.16.0-1 ii libkf5i18n55.16.0-1 ii libkf5iconthemes5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5itemviews5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5jobwidgets5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5kcmutils55.16.0-1 ii libkf5kiocore5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5kiofilewidgets5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5kiowidgets5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5newstuff55.16.0-1 ii libkf5notifications5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5parts5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5service-bin 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5service5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5solid5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5textwidgets5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.16.0-1 ii libkf5windowsystem55.16.0-1 ii libkf5xmlgui5 5.16.0-1 ii libphonon4qt5-44:4.8.3-2 ii libqt5core5a 5.5.1+dfsg-8 ii libqt5dbus55.5.1+dfsg-8 ii libqt5gui5 5.5.1+dfsg-8 ii libqt5widgets5 5.5.1+dfsg-8 ii libqt5xml5 5.5.1+dfsg-8 ii libstdc++6 5.2.1-23 ii phonon4qt5 4:4.8.3-2 Versions of packages dolphin recommends: ii ruby 1:2.2.3 Versions of packages dolphin suggests: pn dolphin-plugins -- no debconf information

Bug#308017: korganizer: Dragging event across midnight halts, modifies duration
Package: korganizer Version: 4:3.3.2-3 Severity: normal When dragging an event to move it, the event stops moving when it spans across midnight, until one releases the mouse button and resumes moving it. Also, as the event stops moving, its duration increases. The portion of the event that can be moved across midnight as well as the amount by which the event's length increases appears to be linked to the velocity with which one moves the mouse when dragging. To reproduce, in Week view or Day view, for example, create an event beginning at 21:00 and ending at 23:00 on some day. Move the event by clicking and holding the starting time of the event and drag it downwards. Dragged slowly, the event will stop moving with its starting time set at 22:15 and its finishing time at 00:30. Even after dragged back to before midnight, the event's duration remains increased by 15 minutes. Dragged more rapidly, the event may end up spanning from 23:00 to 02:00--an increase in duration of an hour. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_AU, LC_CTYPE=en_AU (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages korganizer depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.3.2-5 KDE core libraries ii ktnef4:3.3.2-3 KDE TNEF viewer ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc62.3.2.ds1-21GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-12 GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 0.5.13-1.0 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libkcal2a4:3.3.2-3 KDE calendaring library ii libkdepim1 4:3.3.2-3 KDE PIM library ii libkgantt0 4:3.3.2-3 KDE gantt charting library ii libkpimexchange1 4:3.3.2-3 KDE PIM Exchange library ii libkpimidentities1 4:3.3.2-3 KDE PIM user identity information ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-1 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt3:3.3.4-3 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-12 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii perl 5.8.4-8 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii xlibs4.3.0.dfsg.1-12 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#851216: plasma-workspace: Freezes for long periods of time or indefinitely
Package: plasma-workspace Version: 4:5.8.2-1 Severity: important Tags: upstream >From time to time the entire workspace will freeze, without apparent cause. In earlier versions it would take something around 5 minutes for it to get back to normal (after that time the menus, tray icons, desktop, etc would resume working, often carrying out the actions executed in the meantime). The current version seems to be worse: the workspace will halt indefintely. Thinks like global shortcut keys and application shortcuts still work, as do other KDE applications and functionality like moving windows between virtual desktops, the task switcher (alt+tab) and others like window actions. Taskbars and icons do not respond. There is no CPU activity while the workspace is frozen. Logging the user out and in again will solve the issue but this includes closing all applications, etc as normal, which is not at all an optimal workaround - but necessary since just waiting doesn't help. The log out takes a couple of minutes to follow through after the command is issued (via ctrl+alt+del since kickoff - the "K menu" or "start menu" - won't respond). I assume this delay happens because of a timer that waits for the workspace to respond for a while but after running out it just logs the user off without any response anyway. I suggest the maintaner up the severity at his own discretion because in such a state the KDE desktop shouldn't reach stable. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.8.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages plasma-workspace depends on: ii dbus-x11 1.10.14-1 ii frameworkintegration 5.27.0-1 ii gdb-minimal [gdb]7.12-4 ii iso-codes3.72-1 ii kactivitymanagerd5.8.2-1 ii kde-cli-tools4:5.8.2-1 ii kded55.27.0-1 ii kinit5.27.0-1 ii kio 5.27.0-2 ii kpackagetool55.27.0-1 ii libc62.24-8 ii libcln6 1.3.4-2 ii libdbusmenu-qt5-20.9.3+16.04.20160218-1 ii libgcc1 1:6.2.1-5 ii libgps22 3.16-4 ii libice6 2:1.0.9-1+b1 ii libkf5activities55.27.0-1 ii libkf5auth5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5baloo5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5bookmarks5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5calendarevents55.27.0-1+b1 ii libkf5completion55.27.0-1 ii libkf5configcore55.27.0-1 ii libkf5configgui5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5coreaddons55.27.0-1 ii libkf5crash5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5dbusaddons55.27.0-1 ii libkf5declarative5 5.27.0-1+b1 ii libkf5globalaccel-bin5.27.0-1 ii libkf5globalaccel5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5guiaddons5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5holidays5 16.04.2-1 ii libkf5i18n5 5.27.0-2 ii libkf5iconthemes55.27.0-1 ii libkf5idletime5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5itemviews5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5jobwidgets55.27.0-1 ii libkf5js55.27.0-1 ii libkf5jsembed5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5kdelibs4support5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5kiocore5 5.27.0-2 ii libkf5kiofilewidgets55.27.0-2 ii libkf5kiowidgets55.27.0-2 ii libkf5networkmanagerqt6 5.28.0-1 ii libkf5newstuff5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5notifications5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5notifyconfig5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5package5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5plasma55.27.0-1 ii libkf5plasmaquick5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5quickaddons5 5.27.0-1+b1 ii libkf5runner55.27.0-1 ii libkf5service-bin5.27.0-1 ii libkf5service5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5solid5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5texteditor55.27.0-1 ii libkf5textwidgets5 5.27.0-1 ii libkf5wallet-bin

Bug#852162: libkscreenlocker5: cannot enter password when two mirrored monitors are connected
Sorry for muddying the discussion. To me, this situation only happens after resume from suspend: - If I select mirroring from SystemSettings and lock -> the input field doesn't give feedback but I am able to log in. - If the computer performs a resume and the screen is mirrored because KDE/Xorg forgot the setup -> this bug: the input field doesn't give feedback and pressing enter results in failure because of wrong password. Bug#623258: polkit-kde: Authentication fails with correct root password
¡Hola! Unfortunately I cannot trigger it by following those steps because of #849854 (cannot trigger nm-applet). I don't know of other ways to trigger that dialogue, I'll try it over the weekend. Go to wireless tab, choose "Add" and add some data, check the "Available to all users" box and try to save. Two more more bugs are related to this: 1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-gnome/+bug/500354 This seems exactly the same, but for the GNOME counter part. 2.https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271147 Opened by me, because the same dialogue fails to tell what it wants. Sorry that it took so long to get back to you. I think that this issue is no longer there, probably since polkit-kde-1 was migrated to kf5. In any case, can you please check if this is solved for you? Happy hacking,
Bug#821755: Duplicate of 804638
Hi, This is a duplicate of #804638. The proposed workaround is to install kwin-addons. Doesn't currently work, kwin-addons is at a lower version than KWin and Plasma in testing (5.8.5 vs 5.8.6). Will report back when they're at the same version. Alex <mailto:804...@bugs.debian.org>
Bug#895260: kde-cli-tools: Hard dependency on sudo, which weakens system security
Package: kde-cli-tools Version: 4:5.10.5-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, kde-cli-tools 4:5.12.4-1 has a hard dependency on kdesu, which indirectly depends on sudo, making it impossible to upgrade KDE without creating a serious, unnecessary security risk. Frankly, I consider it a bug that sudo is available in Debian at all. Others obviously disagree, but that's no reason to tie unrelated packages to it like this. Please move kdesu into its own package, and make it optional again. In the mean time, others with my concern can mitigate this risk by neutralizing sudo before installing it. To do that, run the following command (as root) before installing sudo: # dpkg-statoverride --add root root 644 /usr/bin/sudo -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.15.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE= (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages kde-cli-tools depends on: ii kde-cli-tools-data4:5.10.5-2 ii kio 5.37.0-2 ii libc6 2.26-6 ii libkf5completion5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5configcore5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5configwidgets5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.37.0-3 ii libkf5i18n5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5iconthemes5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5kcmutils5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5kiocore55.37.0-2 ii libkf5kiowidgets5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5service-bin 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5service55.37.0-2 ii libkf5su-bin 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5su5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5widgetsaddons5 5.37.0-2 ii libkf5windowsystem5 5.37.0-2 ii libqt5core5a 5.9.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5dbus5 5.9.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5gui55.9.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5svg55.9.2-3 ii libqt5widgets55.9.2+dfsg-9 ii libqt5x11extras5 5.9.2-1 ii libstdc++67.3.0-1 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.4-3 kde-cli-tools recommends no packages. kde-cli-tools suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

Bug#900373: libkscreenlocker5: kscreenlocker_greet may be frozen on resume from suspend to Ram
Package: libkscreenlocker5 Version: 5.12.2-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, After resume from suspend, kscreenlocker_greet is most often frozen and cannot be interacted with. This is a dual display setup, and, when this bug happens, the left display („primary” in systemsettings) is black, the frozen kscreenlocker is only shown on the right display. Killing kscreenlocker_greet from a root terminal will spawn a new kscreenlocker that behaves normaly. This is somewhat similiar to #852162, which is worse but no longer happens to me. Bug#903009: calligra: Does not use italic font styles
Package: calligra Version: 1:3.1.0+dfsg-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I found that Calligra is not using proper italic font styles for almost all fonts, but rather tilting the normal style ("oblique" effect). I tested this in Words, Stage, and Sheets, with several fonts such as Fira Sans, EB Garamond, and URW Palladio. These all display correct italic styles in other programs such as LibreOffice and Firefox. I think this bug is of some importance as it limits the ability to create professional-looking documents. Bug#903223: libkf5kiocore5: Symlink behavior over SFTP connection broken
Package: libkf5kiocore5 Version: 5.47.0-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Since a recent upgrade (I think it was the transition from KDE Frameworks 5.46 to 5.47), on filesystems accessed over an SFTP connection symbolic/soft links whose target is a directory have broken behavior. Symlinks whose targets are files still work properly. Links to directories are shown as a link to a file with an unknown mimetype, rather than that of a directory, and can neither be double-clicked to follow nor expanded in tree view. The only way I see to follow them is by right- clicking and choosing "Show Target" in Dolphin, with no obvious workaround in other applications. I confirmed that this problem was present in Dolphin, Krusader, Konqueror, Kate, and Calligra. Bug#714991: libqtcore4: New dependency qtcore4-l10n not recognized by i386 arch package, preventing multiarch upgrade
Package: libqtcore4 Version: 4:4.8.5+dfsg-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, The recent update for libqtcore4 (version 4:4.8.5+dfsg-1) brings in a new dependency on qtcore4-l10n, which appears to be an arch-independent package, however, on multiarch systems, the i386 package does not recognize the availability of qtcore4-l10n, and therefore cannot be upgraded. This in turn prevents the amd64 package from being updated (unless one is willing to remove the i386 packages and any packages depending on them, ie. Skype), as well as preventing all of the packages depending on libqtcore4 from being updated. I hope you can find a way to remedy this situation, for the time being I will have to hold off on these updates, since I would prefer to keep Skype installed. P.S. A similar issue occurred when the Pango libraries underwent a packaging change and the original libpango1.0-0 package was made into an arch-independent transitional package, ultimately this did not work (the i386 packages would not recognize that the arch-independent transitional package existed and was installed) and the package was split into separate arch-specific packages again. This may, unfortunately, be the route you have to take, unless someone can figure out why i386 packages seem to be unable to recognize arch- independent dependencies on multiarch systems. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers experimental APT policy: (650, 'experimental'), (650, 'unstable'), (600, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.10-rc7-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#836431: ksnapshot: Update dependency from libkipi11 to libkf5kipi31.0.0
Package: ksnapshot Version: 4:15.08.0-1 Severity: normal Hello, I've noticed a problem now while updating the KDE packages on my system to the next set of available testing packages. All packages seemed to update normally but ksnapshot is holding back gwenview due to a conflict between libkipi11 and libkf5kipi31.0.0. My understanding is that the latter is simply the new name for the package so if you could update the dependency to point to the latter it would probably solve the issue. This has just been a superficial analisys so sorry if I'm wrong - but gwenview for example is depending on the 31.0.0 package instead, which replaces libkipi11 so I hope this is a safe assumption. Thanks for the great work maintaining this package. It has been my one and only screenshot tool since moving to Linux and KDE over a decade ago. Bug#836431: ksnapshot: Update dependency from libkipi11 to libkf5kipi31.0.0
Just to clarify: the actual conflict seems to be "libkf5kipi-data breaks libkipi-data" which is why I apparently can't have both libkipi11 (dependence for ksnapshot) and libkf5kipi31.0.0 (dependence for gwenview) installed simultaneously. Again the naming here seems to suggest that it's simply a case of the new version being renamed to libkf5-- (probably as a way to indicate it's part of the KDE 5 framework?) Thank you Diederik. I see the unstable knaspshot package is now a transitional package. I'm not sure if I didn't notice this before or if this was maybe prompted by this bug report here. Anyway, thank you for the info and work as a Debian maintainer :) On 3 September 2016 at 13:42, Diederik de Haas wrote: > On zaterdag 3 september 2016 00:00:31 CEST Alex Henry wrote: > > ksnapshot is holding back gwenview > > Switch to kde-spectacle which is the successor to ksnapshot. > Ksnapshot is no longer developed and it is likely it will be removed from > the > archives.

Bug#840141: kwin-x11: Short freeze when showing multiple tray notifications
Package: kwin-x11 Version: 4:5.7.4-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, The entire screens freeze for a couple of seconds (3-4, but sometimes seemed close to 10) everytime notifications from the tray are about to scroll down or disappear. This only affects drawing of screen content, it doesn't affect sound or cursor motion. If relevant, the particular tray notifications are about bluetooth devices, I'll attach a screenshot with this. The particular order is like this: -two messages (M1 - connection deactivated, M2 - connection timed out) appear one above the other -2-3 seconds pass -freeze -2 -freeze ends -M1 disappears, M2 animates going down -messages reappear and animate again, but without freezes. I'll send a screenshot after the bug is created, and if possible a recording. *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.3.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages kwin-x11 depends on: ii kwin-common 4:5.7.4-1 ii libc6 2.24-3 ii libepoxy0 1.3.1-1 ii libgcc1 1:6.2.0-5 ii libkf5configcore5 5.26.0-1 ii libkf5coreaddons5 5.26.0-1 ii libkf5crash5 5.26.0-1 ii libkf5i18n5 5.26.0-1 ii libkf5windowsystem5 5.26.0-1 ii libkwinglutils8 4:5.7.4-1 ii libkwinxrenderutils8 4:5.7.4-1 ii libqt5core5a 5.6.1+dfsg-3+b1 ii libqt5gui55.6.1+dfsg-3+b1 ii libqt5widgets55.6.1+dfsg-3+b1 ii libqt5x11extras5 5.6.1-2 ii libstdc++66.2.0-5 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.3-1 ii libxcb-randr0 1.12-1 ii libxcb1 1.12-1 kwin-x11 recommends no packages. kwin-x11 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
Bug#840141: Further information
One more detail about this bug is that after the freeze the first image drawn on the displays is actually a previous "frame" to the one last drawn (the one during the freeze). Unfortunately my video editing skill is too bad to create a relevant video in a decent amount of time. I can privately provide a video of the whole desktop. Thank you, Alex
Bug#840141: kwin-x11: Short freeze when showing multiple tray notifications
Hola! I believe this is rather and interaction between KWin and Plasmashell. If I stopped the Plasmashell process, the freeze doesn't happen anymore (those notifications are drawn at the top of the screen in small windows). A further argument for this idea is that after the freeze the screen goes one "frame" back, and that the music and cursor are not affected. I'll note that after restarting Plasmashell this doesn't happen as reliably as before. However, if you know a good way of triggering this kind of notifications, it will be my pleasure to do it. The pending piece of input that is missing is if this bug is reproducible in a different desktop enviroment (that would be, "is this an issue specific to the lower level bluetooth communication?") I'm assuming it isn't as you mentioned that the knotifications upgrade partially mitigates the issue, but it might be better to double check. Afterwards, could you report this bug upstream (through https://bugs.kde.org/)? Been having this problem as well so I just wanted to let anyone else who stumble upon this bug know that the 'qcomicbook' Debian package works fine with unrar-free.
Bug#815670: kalarm: Some KDE applications do not autorstart properly
Package: kalarm Version: 4:4.14.10-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I am having trouble with some KDE applications and their start-up process. After reporting a KDE bug they told me it was likely to be a Debian issue. I agrre that it could very well be the case, if so more likely a missing dependency or incorrect minimum version dependency on some KDE packages. The bug report starts as a more specific problem but we eventually figured out it'a wider issue. We came down to this error message as the culprit: kalarmautostart(14710) AutostartApp::slotAutostart: No command line The full bug report can be found here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358027 I am tagging this as a grave bug because if the applications are supposed to be automatically run at login and they aren't it could render them unusable to a normal user. Luckily I have the knowledge to set up some scripts to deal with it in my own system. This is probably a wider KDE issue, not only kdepim's or kalarm's so let me know if this should be reported elsewhere and if I can help with further information or testing. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.3.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages kalarm depends on: ii kde-runtime 4:15.08.3-1+b1 ii kdepim-runtime 4:4.14.10-2 ii kdepimlibs-kio-plugins 4:4.14.10-1 ii libakonadi-contact4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libakonadi-kde4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libakonadi-kmime4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libc6 2.21-9 ii libgcc1 1:5.3.1-8 ii libkabc44:4.14.10-1 ii libkalarmcal2 4:4.14.10-1 ii libkcalcore44:4.14.10-1 ii libkcalutils4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libkdecore5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkdepim4 4:4.14.10-2 ii libkdeui5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkholidays4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libkio5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkmime4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libkpimidentities4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libkpimutils4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libmailtransport4 4:4.14.10-1 ii libphonon4 4:4.8.3-2 ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libqt4-network 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libstdc++6 5.3.1-8 ii libx11-62:1.6.3-1 ii perl5.22.1-7 ii phonon 4:4.8.3-2 kalarm recommends no packages. Bug#820478: okular-extra-backends: cannot open epub even with extra-backends package installed
Package: okular-extra-backends Version: 4:15.08.3-1 Severity: normal Hello, I have just installed the okular-extra-backends package and am unable to open .epub files with Okular, which the package description says I should be able to do. When I try to open any ePub document I get a dialog saying: "Could not open /path/to/myfile.epub" (replace with proper path) The main UI window also indicates: "Can not find a plugin which is able to handle the document being passed". Let me know what I can do to help fix and test this. After installing the extra-backends package ePub files have been associated with Okular, which they weren't before so it's further indication that the program should be able to handle them. The files open fine on fbreader. I'd also like to question why isn't the extra-backends package recommended instead of suggested (which would make it install by default on some package managers like aptitude). Especially due to the epub capability I think it should be recommended, as I see many people on the web ask about epub readers for Linux and Okular's premise of being a all-in-one reader makes it perfect as an ebook reader. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.4.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages okular-extra-backends depends on: ii libc6 2.22-5 ii libchm1 2:0.40a-3+b1 ii libdjvulibre21 3.5.27.1-5 ii libepub00.2.2-4+b1 ii libkdecore5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkdeui5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkhtml5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libkio5 4:4.14.14-1+b1 ii libokularcore6 4:15.08.3-1 ii libqt4-xml 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libqtcore4 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libqtgui4 4:4.8.7+dfsg-6 ii libstdc++6 5.3.1-13 ii libtiff54.0.6-1 Versions of packages okular-extra-backends recommends: ii okular 4:15.08.3-1 okular-extra-backends suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

Hello. It looks like: Ktorrent raises the nofile soft limit to hard limit and spawns http kio helpers. Bug#911313: that's probably not related to dolphin
As in my case, gwenview didn't respect the single-click setting either. So, probably, it's some more global configuration inconsistency in plasma, kde5 or qt5. Removing `qt5ct` along with it's user config, and setting explicitly `[KDE]/SingleClick=true` in `.config/kdeglobals` fixed it for me.
Bug#1015972: k3b: CD fails to burn, even with correct permissions
Package: k3b Version: 20.12.2-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I have an optical disc reader/burner and needed to burn an Audio CD, so I opened K3b, created a new Audio CD project, and hit "Burn". It took awhile to burn, and in the middle of it I get an error message: Solution: Check permissions via Settings -> Configure K3b... -> Programs -> Permissions. If K3b's default value is set make sure you are member of "operator" group. Insufficient permissions for cdrdao executable: /bin/cdrdao K3b uses cdrdao to actually write CDs. This actually made my CD-R a coaster, as it seems that some part of the disc was already written, but no audio is playable after testing it in VLC. I later installed xfburn, interted a new CD-R and it burned the CD without issue. Because I still wanted to use K3b, I ran the command usermod -aG operator alex as root and restarted K3b. I was greeted to another error: Insufficient permissions for cdrecord executable: /bin/wodim K3b uses cdrecord to actually write CDs. Solution: Check permissions via Settings -> Configure K3b... -> Programs -> Permissions. If K3b's default value is set make sure you are member of "operator" group. Insufficient permissions for cdrdao executable: /bin/cdrdao K3b uses cdrdao to actually write CDs. Solution: Check permissions via Settings -> Configure K3b... -> Programs -> Permissions. If K3b's default value is set make sure you are member of "operator" group. Insufficient permissions for growisofs executable: /bin/growisofs K3b uses growisofs to actually write DVDs. Without growisofs you will not be able to write DVDs. Make sure to install at least version 5.10. Solution: Check permissions via Settings -> Configure K3b... -> Programs -> Permissions. If K3b's default value is set make sure you are member of "operator" group. I logged out and logged back in, but still got the error. Then I ran the groups command. Here is the output: alex@galago-pro:~$ groups alex dialout cdrom floppy sudo audio dip operator video plugdev kvm netdev bluetooth lpadmin scanner libvirt wireshark It seems like I am a member of all the proper user groups (audio, video, cdrom, operator). After talking to some of the members of the #debian IRC channel, some helpful folks linked me to #983861 and https://salsa.debian.org/qt-kde-team/kde/k3b/-/blob/master/debian/README.Debian and I also found #401057. Looks like k3b is falsely requiring the operator group instead of cdrom, but even when you add your user to operator and cdrom, K3b still errors out, asking the user for operator permissions. And the README file says to run dpkg-statoverride --add root cdrom 04710 /usr/bin/wodim if I am still getting permission issues, so I ran that, and just to be safe, I rebooted my system and opened K3b. Upon opening, I didn't get an error message. Assuming that the command worked, I attempted to burn another CD-R and... it did the exact same thing as when I did it the first time... that makes two coasters. It seems like there is a problem with this package and the way it accepts permissions. Can anyone try it on their own system to confirm that the bug is reproducable? Bug#507380: Workaround
Well, if anyone else has this problem trying to install KDE 4.1 from experimental, I finally figure out an (ugly) workaround: $su root #mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemsettings.list /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemsettings.list.renamed #apt-get install kdebase-workspace-data #mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemsettings.list.renamed /var/lib/dpkg/info/systemsettings.list When the apt-get thinks that there are no files in the systemsettings package (it will output a warning about this), it succeeds in installing the kde-workspace-data package. After you rename systemsettings.list back, you can run aptutude and continue install of all other packages that are in the aptitude queue. In my case install completed normally, without any errors. I have not yet tried to reboot into the KDE though. Thank you, alex. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-qt-kde-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#518062: kdelibs: Programs cannot be called on paths containing non-ascii characters
Package: kdelibs-bin Version: 4:4.2.1-1 Severity: important File: kdelibs KDE 4 programs cannot be launched to open files from paths containing diacritics, in this example "ă" and "ţ". Choosing the file from the "Open" dialog of the program works just fine. Command line example: $ pwd /home/alex/cărţi $ okular cheatsheet.pdf Okular dialog says: "Could not open file:///home/alex/cÄrÅ£i/cheatsheet.pdf" $ okteta cheatsheet.pdf Okteta dialog says: "File '/home/alex/cÄrÅ£i/cheatsheet.pdf' is not readable." $ khexedit cheatsheet.pdf KHexEdit opens the files correctly. The exact same thing happens if I launch the program from Konqueror or Dolphin. I am almost sure this is a bug newly introduced in the transition from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1, because I have many paths with diacritics and I was only hit by this today, after an update. The main problem is that I don't know how to downgrade to 4.2.0 to confirm this (and to stay there until this is fixed). Could someone please confirm this bug? Bug#431605: korganizer: events disappear
I've always used local (no NFS nor kio slaves) plain text files ( _~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics_ ). When I used the backup file to restore data lost, it was also located on a local disk (again, no NFS nor kio slaves) - _/mnt/hdb1/stuff/backup.ics_ - and I added it as a resource using KOrganizer's lateral bar, so I could copy events to the default iCalendar file. I've never synced it, neither with other programs nor with external hardware. Hope this helps! Alex Sune Vuorela wrote: On Thursday 12 July 2007, Alex Henry wrote: The bug has manifested again! To quote my previous email: It would be really nice if we could get several pieces of interesting information. Is it just a plain text file on your local harddrive? or do you use nfs? or some network kio slaves ? (nfs:// fish:// or ... ) Please. Do you sync with other programs ? like kpilot, kmobiletools, kitchensync, ... ? Please. /Sune
