The camera ioslave and control module have erratic behaviour, at least
with USB cameras.

When a camera is added in the control panel, then it isn't shown when
the same module is restarted. As if no camera has been configured yet,
although the ~/.kde/share/config/kio_camerarc _does_ have the data:

$ cat kio_camerarc
[Canon Digital IXUS]
Model=Canon Digital IXUS
Path=usb:

[Canon Digital IXUS 2 (PTP mode)]
Model=Canon Digital IXUS 2 (PTP mode)
Path=usb:

OTH, when konqueror is started with the URL "camera:/" it doesn't show
all cameras, sometimes only the last configured camera, others none. i

But the images can be accessed by entering the entire URL, for example:

konqueror 'camera://Canon Digital [EMAIL PROTECTED]:]/'

Hello,

It seems that kghostview has a problem opening direct links to pdf
files that are not accessed via the browser.
For example, if I am sent a link such as http://example.com/file.pdf through
psi, or even in an email received in kmail, clicking on the link will open
kghostview, open the "Loading progress" dialogue, and sit there at 0%
indefinitely. However, cancelling the loading dialogue, and then
opening the location through file->open recent causes the file to be
opened immediately. Obviously this is a bit of a pain, and will
definitely cause trouble for those who are not aware of the
  workaround. Thanks,

  Todd

hi, this is Bug#81422 in KDE's bugzilla. as one can read there:

- "The problem has been fixed meanwhile and will no longer show in
  KDE 3.3."

- "As a temporary workaround [or if you have to stay at KDE 3.2],
you can disable the thumbnail preview."

  thanks for your report,

As in the subject, often the application opens a local PDF file leaving
some tools disabled -in particular the "zoom in" tool: see the attached

Bug#268804: kmail: Sub-Folders not highlighted as having unread mail

2004-08-29 Thread Grahame
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Severity: minor

Before updating to kmail 3.3.0-2 when I checked mail in if a new email was
filtered into a sub-folder, and the folder structure was collapsed, then the
top level folder would have been highlighted as having unread mail. Now
after the upgrade none of the folders or sub-folders are highlighted.

example
---

I have the following folder structure:

Linux
Kernel
Debian
News
Bugs
Mandrake

Now previous to the update if an unread email was filtered into
Linux->Debian->News then the structure would look like this:

Linux (Bold)
Kernel
Debian (Bold)
News (1) (Bold)
Bugs
Mandrake

The (1) being the number of unread emails in the folder.

Currently the structure is not being updated to the second structure and
it's a case of pure guesswork of where there are new unread emails.

Bug#240256: summary and the like

2004-08-29 Thread Adeodato Simó
package kmail
severity 240256 wishlist
retitle 240256 kmail: Include an option to force 8-bit sending of mail
forwarded 240256 http://bugs.kde.org/79929
quit

first of all, kudos to John Zaitseff who did a great job at narrowing
down this bug and explaining the whole situation. John, did you ever
receive some feedback from kmail developers wrt to the bugs you opened
  back in April?

  now for the summary:

- there is no KMail bug, if your SMTP server does not advertise the
8BITMIME capability, KMail will refuse to send 8-bit e-mails.

see John's posts for the whole story and possible solutions. may I
add one: install a light MTA and use that as your transport,
  either via commandline or SMTP.

  relevant KDE bugs:

http://bugs.kde.org/66604
http://bugs.kde.org/77058

- there is a *valid* wishlist to allow the user to force 8-bit
e-mails *even if* the server does not advertise this capability.
It was submitted to the KDE BTS by John, and is:

http://bugs.kde.org/79929

  thanks,

the behavior I observe is the following:

- no new mail, no folder is in bold (correct).

- linux/debian/news with new mail, folders NOT COLLAPSED: News (1)
in bold, Linux & Debian NOT BOLD. I can't recall, but perhaps this
behavior is different from previous kmail versions.

- linux/debian/news with new mail, Linux COLLAPSED: only Linux is
visible, it appears IN BOLD and with a (0 + 1) label, stating that
Linux itself does not have any new mail but some of its folders
  do.

don't you observe the same behavior? if not, can you please try
creating a new system user and trying then?

hi Daniel, I can't reproduce. I rename a big maildir folder and it
happens immediately, plus the strace shows this:

rename("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel22", "/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33") = 0
rename("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel22.index",
"/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index") = 0
rename("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel22.index.sorted",
"/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index.sorted") = 0
rename("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel22.index.ids",
"/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index.ids") = 0
rename("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel22.directory",
"/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.directory") = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)

access("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33", R_OK|W_OK|X_OK) = 0
access("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33/new", R_OK|W_OK|X_OK) = 0
access("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33/cur", R_OK|W_OK|X_OK) = 0
access("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33/tmp", R_OK|W_OK|X_OK) = 0
access("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index", F_OK) = 0

lstat64("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600,
st_size=3689375, ...}) = 0
lstat64("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33/new", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700,
st_size=48, ...}) = 0
lstat64("/home/adeodato/Mail/devel33/cur", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700,
st_size=322088, ...}) = 0

open("/home/adeodato/Mail/.devel33.index", O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE) = 13

I have noticed, though, that when I copied that big folder from
~/.mail/whatever to ~/Mail, and then opened KMail, it went for a
minute or so with intense hard drive access (to create the indexes, I
  imagine).

perhaps you were renaming a folder that lacked those indexes, and thus
the hard drive activity was the result of this and not of the rename
  action?

  thanks,

Bug#268804: kmail: Sub-Folders not highlighted as having unread mail

2004-08-29 Thread Grahame White
Hi,

> the behavior I observe is the following:
>
> - no new mail, no folder is in bold (correct).

Yep same here. If mail comes in at a top level folder then that folder is
BOLD.

>
> - linux/debian/news with new mail, folders NOT COLLAPSED: News (1)
> in bold, Linux & Debian NOT BOLD. I can't recall, but perhaps this
> behavior is different from previous kmail versions.

If the structure is NOT COLLAPSED when the mail comes in then the folder
the mail goes to IS BOLD.

>
> - linux/debian/news with new mail, Linux COLLAPSED: only Linux is
> visible, it appears IN BOLD and with a (0 + 1) label, stating that
> Linux itself does not have any new mail but some of its folders
> do.

If the structure is COLLAPSED when the mail is checked in then no folders
are BOLD even once the structure is afterwards expanded. In which case I
need to click on the folder to see if there is new mail, a little annoying
when I have 50+ (sub)folders :)

No I don't get the (0 + 1) either, doesn't make much difference though as
if a sub-folder had new mail but a higher older didn't then the higher
folder would be bold but with no number of new mails listed at all.

>
> don't you observe the same behavior? if not, can you please try
> creating a new system user and trying then?

I haven't had a chance to test this with a new user yet. If you still
cannot spot what is causing this then I'll try upgrading my other box, the
one that has the older version, to see if I can reproduce this myself.

Grahame

Every now and then I get the following message appearing in a new error
message window :
"Codice d'errore MSN non gestito 715
Invia una dettagliata segnalazione di bug, se possibile con l'ultimo
output di debug della console."
That, translated, would be something like:
"MSN unmanaged error code 715
Send a detailed bug report, with the last console debug output, if
possible."

But the only thing i get from running kopete from console (and thus
having the chance to see the error messages) is:
"MNG error 1029: Chunk out of sequence; chunk TERM; subcode 0:0
MNG error 1029: Chunk out of sequence; chunk TERM; subcode 0:0
QGArray::find: Index 0 out of range"
at the very start of kopete. But when that MSN plugin error appears, no
other message shows on the console.

Bug#265795: Additionnal infos

2004-08-29 Thread Daniel Tiefnig

Hi,

same problem here, though I could not fix it by using X11s Xsession
file. After system startup, when KDM and X start, my keyboard gets
disabled. I can't toggle NUM Lock or anything. After a quick "Restart
X", everything works fine.

FWIW my KDm config is available at:
http://members.inode.at/daniel.tiefnig/kdm/

I'm not that sure its really a KDM problem, might be a X11 problem as well.

Keyboard is connected via PS2, mouse is using USB btw.

I just updated to kopete 3.3.0-1 and now it refuses to connect to
jabber.org with this message:

SSL support could not be initialized for account [EMAIL PROTECTED] This
is most likely because the QCA TLS plugin is not installed on your
system.

Without SSL it works fine. And of course the 3.2.3 version also worked
with SSL.

The problem raises when using an old KGET configuration file. If that
file is removed (~/.kde/share/config/kgetrc) then the program starts
fine.

Kmail should add -f to /usr/sbin/sendmail when sending email,
it's not enough only to set the From header.

Konversation and Kopete both provide /usr/share/services/irc.protocol. Bot=
h=20
packages should probably use update-alternatives to manage this file. (Thi=
s=20
is cleaner and will scale better than using a diversion, and gives the=20
sysadmin better control.)

I'll try to put together a patch for kopete and build a new konversation=20
package this evening.

kdenetwork override disparity

2004-08-29 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

kopete_3.3.0-2_i386.deb: package says section is net, override says kde.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

The '0' and '.' keys on the kcalc display are swapped.

Bug#268893: kuickshow no longer auto-rotates images from a digicam

2004-08-29 Thread Nadine
Package: kuickshow
Version: 4:3.3.0-1.1

I just noticed that kuickshow no longer automatically rotates the images I
take with my digicam. It used to get the orientation from the EXIF info and
rotate the image accordingly.
I THINK this is since my upgrade to 3.3.0.

Kmail fails to start, because:

kmail: relocation error: /usr/lib/libkmailprivate.so.0: undefined symbol:

This bug is only present in kmail-3.2.3, downgrading kmail from 3.2.3-1 to
3.2.2-2
solves the problem.

Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Severity: normal

It appears that kmail renames a mailbox by creating a new mailbox,
then moving each message of the old mailbox to the new mailbox. I say
this because renaming a somewhat large mailbox (containing about 4000
messages) takes around a minute of hard drive thrashing on my computer.

Since the messages are just files in the filesystem, I suggest that it
would be worthwhile for kmail to avail itself of the rename(2) system
call, and to use it on the mailbox directory (ie: don't move every
message file individually!).

Kaddressbook does start the GUI and then stops with the following output:

kaddressbook: ERROR: Unable to open resource 'resource-name'!
QDate::fromString: Parameter out of range
QComboBox::setCurrentItem: (unnamed) Index 3 out of range

The GUI does stay around, and looks functional, but there are no contacts
whatsoever, you can not create new contacts (even though you can import, but
you can not save those afterwards).

Maybe that's because kaddressbook is still of version 3.2.1 while KDE itself is
at version 3.3?

Hi!

It would be nice to be able to switch between konsole sessions by just moving
the cursor to the sessions buttons / tab and using the mouse wheel, like you
can do it with the virtual desktop selector in kicker.

Best regards

can you please run the above command on the mbox yourself? with tail
  -n 2 ==> tail -n 10 or so.

> (and if that's not what the dialog means, it needs

I think this may be the case. I imported a 17M mbox, with of course
  subjects repeated multiple times:

$ grep -i '^Subject:' /tmp/devel | sort | uniq -c | sort -n | tail -n 4
117 Subject: Re: testing and no release schedule
127 Subject: Re: Mass bug filing: Cryptographic protection against
modification
164 Subject: Re: Spam in the lists out of control
415 Subject: Re: Social Contract GR's Affect on sarge

I got the reported message exactly *once*. Then I did run (out of curiosity):

$ grep -i '^Message-Id:' /tmp/devel | sort | uniq -c | sort -n | tail -n 2
  1 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  2 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

after some more testing, it really seems that you get a warning for
  each duplicate Message-Id. so:

> "Duplicate message subject error when adding message to folder
> MBOX-debbugs in KMail"

could be reworded, or even not shown at all. but that would be a
  wishlist bug.

it may even legal to have several messages with the same m-id...

Package: klaptopdaemon
Version: 2.2.2-5
Severity: Important

KDE's laptop daemon currently ignores events coming from USB devices
which makes it unusable on systems using USB input devices only; the
obvious result is that the daemon will initiate a suspend event
although the user uses the mouse or types on the keyboard.

The bug is more a design flaw as the daemon currently checks for input
activity by parsing /proc/interrupts, searching for the keywords
"[K|k]eyboard" and "[M|m]ouse" and checking whether or not an
interrupt on their irq lines has occurred since the last poll. USB
devices do not show up as such in /proc/interrupts but as "usb-ohci"
(or whatever driver you use) and possibly share interrupts with other
devices (such as sound in my case). Bad method. There must be a way of
linking itself into X's input event handlers and do the checking there.

This said, I still consider it by all means important rather than a
wishlist item. Many people use their laptop computers at home in
combination with external - USB, that is - input devices (who likes to
fuzz with a small mousepad or dislocated keys on a literally weak
keyboard?).

note, however, that many of these duplicate m-id *lines* do not mean
duplicate *messages*, specially in a debbugs mailbox... (there are
many messages matching '^Message-Id' in the body).

  wishlist bug?

made the warning disappear. Looking at the preferences dialog my jabber
account wasn't there so I recreated it and everything began working
again. OK, I'm stupid. You can close this bug :-)

Bug#240256: summary and the like

2004-08-29 Thread John Zaitseff
In response to Adeodato:

> first of all, kudos to John Zaitseff who did a great job at
> narrowing down this bug and explaining the whole situation.

Thanks!

> John, did you ever receive some feedback from kmail developers wrt
> to the bugs you opened back in April?

Unfortunately not. I have just checked KMail 1.6.2 (with KDE
3.3.0): it does not have a (documented) option for 8-bit MIME
override.

Yours truly,

John Zaitseff

Bug#268804: kmail: Sub-Folders not highlighted as having unread mail

2004-08-29 Thread Stuart Young
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.3.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #268804

I'm suffering this as well. Of note is that all these folders and
sub-folders are maildir. Could this be related to the type of folder
that people are using?

Also note that I'm receiving mail using POP3 with KMail's internal
retrieval options.

>> - linux/debian/news with new mail, folders NOT COLLAPSED: News (1)
>> in bold, Linux & Debian NOT BOLD. I can't recall, but perhaps
>> this behavior is different from previous kmail versions.

Definitely different. Previously in KMail 3.2.2, all folders in a
newmail chain within the tree were highlighted, all the way to the top.
This included the 'Local Folders' option at the very top.

>If the structure is NOT COLLAPSED when the mail comes in then the folder
>the mail goes to IS BOLD.

>> - linux/debian/news with new mail, Linux COLLAPSED: only Linux is
>> visible, it appears IN BOLD and with a (0 + 1) label, stating
>> that Linux itself does not have any new mail but some of its
>> folders do.

Not what happens here. The top level folder does not go bold. On opening
the top level folder after a sub folder has received mail, the sub
folder does not change it's status in any way. ie: It doesn't go bold,
the number of messages supposedly in the folder does not change, unread
messages field is blank, etc.

>If the structure is COLLAPSED when the mail is checked in then no
>folders are BOLD even once the structure is afterwards expanded. In which
>case I need to click on the folder to see if there is new mail, a little
>annoying when I have 50+ (sub)folders :)

This also breaks the 'When trying to find unread messages: Loop in All
Folders' option ('Misc' section of 'Configure - KMail'), as it doesn't
find any new messages.

Hope this info helps.

Bug#268879: Messaging a contact (ICQ) brings up an empty reply to box

2004-08-29 Thread Neil Levine
Package: kopete
Version: 3.2.3-1

In 'classic' ICQ mode, when a message comes in, I click on it it to
read it. If I then close the window instead of clicking on the "reply"
button, then immediatley click on the contact to send him a message
after $some_time, I get an empty window with "reply" highlighted in the
bottom right and a "Next >>" button to its left, which when clicked
proceeds to show $some_large_number of empty messages again. The main
text entry window does not accept input.

I have the History input plugin enabled but this happens with it enabled
or without.
