I have tried a lot but it still doesn't work. I have tried to change
settings in the BIOS, I changed the boot loader from GRUB to LILO and it
still hangs exactly when it starts to boot the kernel.

......
However, I am still trying...

I had a similar problem on RH 7.2. Try disabling APM in the BIOS and
pass
the "apm=off" argument to the kernel.

The relevant lines in /etc/grub.conf looks like the following:

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-18.7.x)
         root (hd0,0)
         kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-18.7.x ro root=/dev/hda5 apm=off
         initrd /initrd-2.4.18-18.7.x.img
