Somethings are compiled for large file support. Try ftp/gftp on it, for example.

You reported cp not working with a large file. I stated that it does
even with an older Red Hat Linux distribution. I don't have a bla bla
utility that you also claims doesn't work - perhaps that an 8.0 specific
utility?
Your comment above implies that gftp *is* compiled with large
file support, and your comment below that it fails. Which is it?
I sense attitude. I don't want to get into an argument, but the above doesn't imply what you say. I did make a mistake in saying 'cp' doesn't work with large files, but there have been numerous occasions where I cannot use my linux system because the utilities that come with it are not compiled with that support. That is my point.

My questions stands. Is there a version of RedHat where everything is compiled with large file support - not just somethings?

Max.

If you really want a good answer, please give us a good problem
description. You should start at least with a copy of /etc/mtab and a
log showing the failure.

I have been struggling to get large file support in RH 8.0.

It seems to me that everything I try to do fails due to there being no
large file support compiled into the utilities that come with the OS -
eg ftpd, gftp, cp, rcp bla bla.

That's odd. I'm still running Red Hat Linux 7.1 with an ext2 file
system and I have no problems with large files. I just created a 4.3GB
file and used cp to copy it. No problems at all.
