You reported cp not working with a large file.  I stated that it does
even with an older Red Hat Linux distribution.  I don't have a bla bla
utility that you also claims doesn't work - perhaps that an 8.0 specific
utility?  Your comment above implies that gftp *is* compiled with large
file support, and your comment below that it fails.  Which is it? 

If you really want a good answer, please give us a good problem
description.  You should start at least with a copy of /etc/mtab and a
log showing the failure.
