Check your /dev/tty? entries. I had this same issue after I upgraded to 
DEV-3.3-4, and I found the tty4 entry had been changed. 

An rm and mknod cured the problem. Let me know if you need more info, 
but please post the error from your messages file, and do an 
"ls -lc /dev/tty? >send_this_file_to_the_list.
