All local files.  We're not planning on ldap or any external services for
some time.  This is a straight oracle server with a local application.  I've
turned Oracle and the app off while this problem persists.

BTW, I just noticed that logging in as root I get in just fine (locally and
remotely).  All other user accounts are unable to get in.  I've even deleted
then recreated them using userdel and useradd.  Strange.

ls -ld /home shows

drwxr-xr-x      10 root root    4096 Nov 4 10:09        /home

ls -ld /home/user_name shows this

drwxr-x---      3  user_name  user_name  4096 Nov 4 10:09 user_name

Thought that looked ok to me.
