Actually, it is a two-part issue. First, as you say, the file system needs to support large files. Second, however, is that libraries and applications need to be compiled to understand file offsets that are greater than +/- 2GB. As Red Hat supplies libraries and applications, it is sensible to ask whether they support large files. That's how much I know.
