I presume you're talking about /home/htdocs/www.domainname1.com as a
directory?

You would have to give write access to that user (or the users group) for
that specific directory, I'm not sure how wu-ftpd works in that respect.
It's more usual to have the FTP daemon logged in as one user (say ftp).

I'm not sure about wu-ftpd, but Pure-ftpd allows you to setup FTP only users
and chroot them to their home directories, this means you would only have to
maintain one (FTP for example) user on your Linux box all the others would
only be able to use ftp...

If you post your ftpd config file, and the output from "ls -la" in the
/home/htdocs directory, it would probably make things easier.
