I won't start this off by saying I am the expert or ultimate athourity
figure on this hell I don't even have the best gramer and spelling, but I
will say I am shocked and apalled by what I have read on the list so far as
of late.
The subject I am referring to are the emails concerning html emails and
necomers asking questions when someone thinks they should have tried to
solve the problem first.
    1) HTML Email:
I will admit Html email is a pain and does take up extra bandwith.
However lets looks at this from both sides of the coin instead of just one
side. Spam ads and junk mail are a pain especially when they have 3 or more
redirects. The nice thing about html is....well I personnally can't think of
other than webpages that html is good for. So do I let it bother me not
really I make the adjustments of dealing with it and considering that there
are alot of people out there who have an out of the box machine that is
probably running some version of MS and have joined this list to learn more
about RH and wether or not convert over. Now does this mean that they know
that they can send plain text email instead of html? maybe maybe not.
So before we all rant rave or get upset about bandwith how about
politely sending the person an email asking them if they know they are
sending html emails and if not explain to them why your asking and then tell
them how to change it, or have the mailing list put up in a terms and
condition statement that html email is not appreciated and then give the
instruction of how to convert to plain text.

2) In regards to the newbies asking answers:
First off I have made a 31 mb pdf consisting of almost 8200 pages of
howto's which could help solve alot of problems once I get it posted to a
web page. anyone who has a web page that would be willing to post it on
there site and has the room to spare may contact me to recieve it. or any
one who would like to have it may contact me inregard or recieveing it to
have.
Secondly, we all had to look, read, ask and reinstall many times when
first comeing to the *nix enviroment and I believe anyone who says other
wise is just to concieded to admit it. Also not very many of us have learned
everything on our own. What I mean by this is if you ever read a howto,
book, or man page then some one has told you what you needed to know. just
because a new person has figured they could get the best answer from a
redhat mailing list instead of going and spending 50 - 70 bucks on a book ,
should they be critisized? No. However like some people have mention in
replys to those messages yes the best way would to either give them a few
ideas where to look. I usually will tell some one to try here or there and
if that doesn't help to let me know and I will see what can be done for
them. Now does this mean I will tell them no it means I will help them try
and find it and if they are still haveing trouble understanding the material
then it will try and explain it to in different terms. Now there are times
where I just tell them the answers and that is because my wife was good to
me before hand and I was in a good mood or I just don't have time to and it
is easier for me at that time.

Now I know I am probabaly going to get flamed but thats ok cuz this is all
IMHO and if someone doesn't like it they can flame away.

fare well for now
