Well, duh! That's probably whey I couldn't get the internal PCTel to ever function. I bought an Actiontec pci card and it works fine. I suppose I don't need the entries in my modules.conf at all. It hasn't been a big issue yet because I connect with dsl through a router. The modem is for travel and faxes. Since I have the actiontec card modem, don't I need the ptserial module for the Actiontec? This is so confusing. > try unloading the sound modules, and then reloading the PCTel modules. > However, this problem does not occur if you are using the commercial > ($$$) drivers from www.opensound.com . If I truly cared about sound quality I would probably buy a commercial driver, but I never listen to music on my computers. I mostly listen to analog music played on a turntable amplified by tubes. :-) I'll try removing the pctel references and see what happens. Thanks for your help.
