Hi. I posted this message a while back, but never saw whether it made it to the list or not. If it was answered, forgive me for missing it. I really would like to solve my hostname problem.

I have a similar situation and wonder if I can get some help. I just installed RH 7.3 on my machine. I use a cable modem, and DHCP, so when I boot up, my hostname gets changed to something like DHCPPC1. This causes a problem with my lpr functionality. Upon boot up, when the system tries to start lpr, it displays a message that DHCPPC1 is not a valid hostname. If I try to print then, I obviously cannot due so because lpr is hosed. I bring up the KDE Printer Config tool, restart lpr, and then everything is fine because at that point it seems to see the localhost hostname which is in the /etc/hosts and the /etc/sysconfig/network files. After bootup, if I type hostname, I get localhost (sorry, I'm not very original with my naming). So, my followup to this thread is, HOW TO I GET THE LOCALHOST HOSTNAME TO BE AVAILABLE DURING BOOTUP SO LPR STARTS CORRECTLY? Thanks in advance for any help.
