Although it was available in my 7.2 box. I wanted to set the hostname , so I used following command ( root ) : #hostname vectra It looked ok (prompt changed also ) , but every time I did a reboot , hostname was set again to localhost. The files the man pages ( hostname ) refered to ( etc/host , ... ) even didn't exist. I already solved the problem by installing linuxconf. ( witch is a good util for newbies like me ) So far the amazing story :) ----------------------------------- But I'm still curious : In which file is the hostname of a pc set ? Is this always the same file ?
