Well, I guess my question should be...

In your experience, does it have any value (ie. is it worth the bandwith
to do the checks because it actually reduces your spam intake), or do
you find that too many customers are calling you saying they are getting
denied while trying to send email to your server?

Yes.  You need to decide if it is a good idea.  I will send a
sample sendmail.mc upon request offlist, or see:
http://www.dsbl.org/ for instructions.  Having local zones is
usually just for high volume mail shops.
