I find that for heavy numerical work, our DELL Precision 530's preloaded with RH7.2
work great - dual 2Ghz Intel.  I think what sets them apart is the dual channel
memory bus, so large arrays of data are moved pretty quick.  Tom's Hardware did a
test of the dual Athlons, and wasn't to impressed with the initial performance.  So
if you can afford it...
