Ed I don't think covad would appreciate you telling there customers to use a class A subnetmask. They tend to break those things down a bit before they give them out ;-)

You've got a class A address (1.x.x.x. - 128.x.x.x). You should probably use a netmask of 255.0.0.0 *unless* your network administrators have changed the netmask for your subnet. The only real way to know is to ask them. Alternatively, if you have to guess, try setting yourself up as a dhcp client and see what address and netmask you get back.
