Here's bits and pieces from a post I made to the xfree86 list after I
got my Radeon 7500:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I then used Xconfigurator and selected Radeon AGP.

I can't remember whether I needed to make any changes to the
XF86Config-4 file after that or not (I don't think so). I hand edited
the XF86Config-4 file and tried both "ati" and "radeon" for the driver
but it does not appear to make any difference - the radeon module is
listed in either case when you execute lsmod.

What I did need to do was put the following in /etc/modules.conf

alias char-major-10-175 agpgart
options agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1

I believe this is motherboard dependent (i.e., you may or may not need
to do it depending on your motherboard). I've got an ASUS CUV4X and a
P3-800.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I've now got: XFree86-4.2.0-0.6.1 from Mike Harris's ftp site so you
might want to get it, although it probably isn't necessary.

To get 3D support you'll either need to compile your own kernel with
the XFree86 modules or use a Rawhide kernel along with the other
packages necessary for it. See Red Hat's xfree86-list archives for
January 2002 for specific instructions.

I'll mail you my XF86Config-4 file (off list) for a start but of
course it won't work for you without some modifications unless you
also have a Viewsonic A-70 monitor.

HTH,
Dave
