Thanks for all the suggestions.
It looks as if there is something drastically wrong with this motherboard.
It is dropping cpu cycles like mad. I can be moving the cursor and it will
jerk. Audio has glitches. The clock is losing time like a sieve.
Sigh, and it is a new motherboard :-(
