You might want to try the DNS HOWTO. The hosts file is for the "hosts style look-ups". So you need to completely disassociate the whole concept of hosts away from DNS. In Bind (a DNS server) you create what are called "zone" files. These are where you tell Bind how to do the mappings for the DNS requests.
