Er--not really.  As of Win9x, DOS is used as the initial program loader,
but by the time Windows is running, it's replaced the DOS with its
own kernel.  A most persistent misconception.  (Note that this doesn't
make things any better, as far as I can tell...)

Well, actually, it's more like VMS internally, considering they brought
in the guy who architected that (I ought to remember his name, but I've
had no caffeine yet this AM) to do the revamp of NT.  Now if only it was
as plausible an OS as VMS...
