xset +fp is only necessary to dynamically change the existing X server
fontpath. If you have it in xfs's fontpath, and restarted xfs, you
might try restarting X. This should accomplish the same thing.
But, I would be concerned that there is something fundamentally wrong
with that fontpath, or possibly some of the fonts, and that is the
root of the problem. So if you do as I suggest, and X won't start,
then remove the line from fs/config until you figure out what is
wrong.
