I didn't think there were any official rpm-4.x RPMs for 6.2.  As far as
I know, the latest version of RPM for 6.2 systems was 3.06.  This will
read RPMs created by rpm 4.x.

Upgrading to rpm 3.05 or 3.06 will solve the "major numbers <= 3"
problem, but your up2date setup has other problems.  Maybe you need to
specify an different host to get your updates from?
