Run "make oldconfig" first.  Then run your choice of "make menuconfig"
or "make xconfig".  I am not sure why the documention doesn't mention
oldconfig.  I have found it handy when I don't have the ".config" file
for the current kernel.  It gives you a base to start from when
selecting what you want in your new kernel.
