Thanks for everyones response so far.

I think i'll have a go at recompiling 2.2.18. I've downloaded it to work and
i'll burn it onto a CD-R.  A couple of questions still.  First make
config/xconfig and menuconfig won't run (as root in root home directory).  I
did write down the error message but didn't bring it to work.  I do have
ncurses lib.  I installed all 1.5gb of RH6.0.  Whats going on here?
Mikkel you say you have printer working with 2.2.18 someone else on this
list says I need patches is yours working w/o?

How do I use make oldconfig (I  cannot find this in any of my books in howto
etc)? So I can keep the existing bits in my kernel and add in SCSI and USB
support.  Ta. NH.
