netscape 6.0 won't start or show images

arg, after i reinstalled linux, nothing seems to work properly anymore.  
netscape crashes when running for the first time after installation, then 
won't start again.  if it does happen to start, it doesn't display images 
that are suppose to be a part of the webpage (i.e. webpages are all text).  
any suggestions?  thanks a bunch...
