In reference to the aubject, winmodems are trash (and not real modems) and
do not work with Linux.
faxmodems are not winmodems traditionally, but if it's a PCI card, then
forget it. You're using a 166MHz system though.. the modem might not be a
winmodem but I don't know about your specific model.
have you tried minicom at all?
