As an aside, the NIC is not a 3c509 (as I said initially), it is an SMC
EtherEZ that has been working fine for nearly 3 years.
I do have a spare NIC, but it's not the same type. I don't want to
shutdown and mess with the hardware unless it is necessary. I am getting
between 0 and 3 of these messages a day. There is no other discernable
problem (assuming this is a problem).
