I still get the same message:
# insmod -fv tdfx
Using /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/tdfx.o
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/tdfx.o: couldn't find the kernel version the
module was compiled for

The only clue in the readme about kernel versions is this:
4.  Prerequisite Software
<snip>
  For the 3dfx Voodoo3 driver, Linux kernel 2.2.x (later kernels will be
     supported in the near future, and may be required for some chipsets)
 <snip>

but it isn't any more specific than that...
